My thoughts:

Well, they covered some of the good stuff, and left out most of the bad stuff (no mention of Katie Vick, HLA, or anything). I was surprised they left out the Tag matches contested by the Smackdown 6. I mean, we had variations (Edge vs. Angle, Edge vs. Eddie, Angle vs. Misterio), but none of the matches involving all 6.

Also, I didn't see WrestleMania, so I never saw the Rock vs. Hogan match until I saw it in its clipped form tonight. I gotta say, there was a lot of emotion in that match. And, dare I say it, it wasn't nearly as badly worked as I had thought considering what I read on the 'net. I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, it wasn't great, just not all that bad. Hogan does a pretty good Rock Bottom.

Speaking of emotion, they devoted a segment to the Owen Hart Tribute show. At the time, I was still really shocked about what happened, and how it happened so nothing that I saw and heard was really registering. But when I saw the clips tonight, I was very moved in a way I didn't have a chance to be the first time around.

Best part of last night's special was Raw is Owen.

Of course the blurred logo was a problem.

One match that I've never seen before and that impressed me was Angle-Edge from Backlash.

I was wondering if they just showed the Owen thing last night so they wouldn't have to include it as a "downer" on the tenth anniversary show, but could still pay it some recognition. I know it was nice to show, but why else would they do that on a Best Of 2002 show, ya know?

I ordered WM and didn't remember this, but Dagent was right- Hogan's Rock Bottom was about the best execution of a move I've ever seen him do. It was way better than either of the ones Rock did in the match, though I suspect Hogan's inability to jump may have influenced those.

I agree with Raw is Owen taking the spotlight tonight. Very touching tribute to the man.

As for the blurring of the WWF logos, it's really gotten out of hand, and in my opinion ruined the Best of show last night. Does this mean that they won't ever put Wrestlemania 3 on DVD, since they'd have to blur out EVERYTHING?

I think Ubermonkeys is right about the Owen tribute. There was absolutely no need to have that on the "Best of 2002" show. It would be one thing if they listed those we lost this year and mentioned Owen. Strange...
Nonetheless, it really brought back some memories of that night. Seeing Mick Foley eulogize Owen was like seeing an old relative again. Powerful stuff, indeed.

They're very weird about the blurred logos... They only blur the "scratch" WWF logo - the one from the Attitude era forward. The classic WWF logo has been left unchanged, and actually dominates the screen on the RAW Retro clips. (Personally, I can't see the World Wildlife Fund paying enough attention to give a shit if you can see the only WWF logo on a turnbuckle in the background of a match from before the name change anyway. This seems to be Vince's way of throwing a hissyfit.)

Okay, we saw:

-2 Kurt Angle matches
-2 Edge matches
-2 Jeff Hardy matches

and

-1 HHH match

Didn't see HHH's big return to RAW either. Hell, outside of the HHH/HBK segment, we didn't really see much of HHH. Make of that what you will.

It means that their Best matches did not involve Triple H...

I would've included the RVD/Benoit match from Raw, but that's just me.

It also should be noted that I didn't see any of Booker T on the show. So, Booker wasn't in any MotY type matches save perhaps the elimination chamber. And Bookers music is not included in Anthology either. So much for his big push.

Regarding Anthology, I think that there is an issue with licensing Booker's theme music -- it has a credit listed inside the booklet for the new Smackdown! video game, whereas most of the wrestlers theme music do not. The only themes w/ credits listed are Booker's, ones from WCW, and original compostitions by recording artists like Hendrix, Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and the Raw theme guys.

So I wouldn't worry too much about the anthology thing - but that is just my guess. If Book is going to get a big push, though, I would expect a new theme to accompany it.

Actually every week on both RAW and Smackdown! they have been showing one of the nominated best RAW moment retro clips, as the RAW is OWEN is a nominated moment it makes sense to show the clip and I would expect to see it again on the 10th Anniversary show.

Seattle sketch comedy fans, be sure to check out the dark new comedy show from "Flaming Box of Stuff"

Performances: Friday, January 3rd at 8pm and 10pm. Saturday, January 4th at 8pm and 10pm

I missed the first half hour of the show- arrived in time for Angle/Mysterio. What did I miss? Eddie/Edge?

I felt that this show was so much worse than last year's. Was it three hours last year? It seems like there was so much more on that one. The matches were edited so much that they all just seemed like highlights of the best spots- it reminded me of sportscenter.

The biggest disappointment to me was Rock/Hogan. I loved that one at Wrestlemania, but it did not stand the test of time for me. Maybe it was the editing or maybe it was knowing the finish, but there was no emotion involved in watching it last night.

Or Mania 12. Wasn't there a big WWF logo spraypainted on the mat? They'd have to blur out 3/4 of the screen.

I`m thinking they wanted to devote more time to showing clips of the Owen Tribute than the other RAW Retro moments, so they used the Best Of night rather than a normal RAW or SD! where time is tighter.

A few thoughts:
Am I the only one who finds it weird these days watching Angle matches when he still had hair? Also, would have made more sense to go with the hair vs. hair climax of the feud, but thats minor.
A Jeff Hardy Desire Video? Then, talk that Jeff Hardy demonstrates all the characteristics of a WWF/E Superstar? Please don't tell me they are really going to punish us in 2003 by pushing Jeff further while not pushing Matt.

Yes Olaf last year it was 3+ hours, because I remember the Triple H vs. Austin match was still going on when the clock hit midnight.

They did seem to chop off more of the matches then they did last year. The HHH/Shawn match was pretty ridiculous when they quick cut to all the HHH offense in the middle of the match, was he moving that slow that they had to quick cut everything but the exact spot lol.

They also only focused on wrestling and nothing on the comedy or "sports entertainment" aspect. But seeing that this year brought us HLA and HHHumping dolls that might be a blessing in disguise. But I would get some sort of guilty pleasure of them showing the segment of Hogan trying to start up Taker motorcycle while everyone stalls for 5 minutes

The divas seemed to be an afterthought. Just a 2 minute quick clips of them, half of it during bikini photoshoots the other half of clips of Smackdown girls in T&A moments and Raw girls entering the ring, the Raw divas had some cool spots and moments they skipped all over that... As mentioned Benoit and Booker both having good years not a mention as well, there was definitely material you can use with Benoit but then again I wouldn't know which match you would take out? Maybe Angle and Edge at Backlash

Well I'm not going to complain too much, it brought back memories of how great Mysterio and Angle were on SummerSlam, and how surreal Hogan and Rock was at WrestleMania... This year in review reminded us how forgettable WrestleMania was overall this year, with only 1 memorable match, but SummerSlam had 3!, 3 free TV matches and one "other' PPV match made the best of list.
