After a four-week journey, the Calgary Flames finally have a new coach. In a press conference Saturday, the Flames formally announced that former San Jose coach Darryl Sutter (brother of former Flames coach Brian Sutter & former Flames forward Ron Sutter) is now the Flames head coach. Sutter replaces outgoing Flames coach Greg Gilbert, who was ousted following the Flames 11 losses in 12 games freefall, and interm coach and full-time Special Assistant to the GM Al MacNeil (67), who in 11 games coached the Flames to a 4-5-2 record. Only time will tell if Sutter can turn the Flames around.

I have never been impressed with Darryl Sutter. He did a good job of turning around San Jose but the talent on that team was never utilized to its fullest extent. With all of the scorers on that team you figure he would have loosened up the defensive reigns a bit.

From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:

DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?

SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.

Does it remind you of any show in particular?

I heard the interview the sports radio station here in Calgary did with Sutter after the announcment of his hiring.

It was quite possibly the worst interview I have ever heard.

And who said that Ted Nolan has been blackballed???

What does this guy have to do to get a coaching gig. I guess winning coach of the year is not good enough huh?

"And who said that Ted Nolan has been blackballed??? What does this guy have to do to get a coaching gig."

... One thing that a guy SHOULDN'T do if he wants another coaching gig is to go over the GM's head and ask the owner to fire said GM (especially if this is the GM that took a chance and hired the guy in the first place).

This is what Ted Nolan did. This is why he has been unable to get an NHL coaching job ever since. It has nothing to do with racism or any other form of prejudice. He is untrustworthy and manipulative.

“Don’t you look at me like that, ya little bastard. You eyeballin’ me? Don’t you dare. I done whipped your ass once, you little sumbitch, don’t think I won’t do it right here right now - BAM! You know that guy Tom Bodett, leaves the lights on for ya? Just the opposite - I’ll turn your lights out. Do you understand me? That’s right, that’s what you call me ‘yes, sir, no sir.’”

“I hate it when those guys have their little sparklers and the explosions. ... You probably liked that Angleslam, didn’tya? You think he deserved that, huh? Huh LOOK AT ME HILLBILLY BOY! You’re damn right it don’t, I don’t give a damn WHAT you like. Don’t even look at me. No, look at me, you ain’t gonna look at me when I’m talking to ya? You disrespecting me? Look at me, JR. I said look at me. That’s right. Boy, I’ll run right over you like a speedbump. Don’t get nervous. Stop sweatin’.”

There is much more to the story then just that. His contract was up, and Muckler would only offer him a One-year contract. That was not guarenteed. This was of course AFTER he won Coach of the year.
