Not too much here. I'll post a quick recap of Part #2, which airs on Boxing Day.
-On his relationship with Vince McMahon
He pointed out there is a 20 year relationship with Vince, but as for the current problem, the problem is that Hulk doesn't know what the problem is. Hulk said he needed a break, so he did the match with Brock Lesnar, and took some time off. When a scenario was presented to Hogan for his return, he wasn't too crazy about the "low-road, Jerry Springer" content that would take place when he wasn't wrestling. He said he wouldn't discuss his return until after the new year. His contract expires on Jan. 14th.
-On Austin
He felt there is a way to do things. Hogan says that when he left, he put Brock over first. He owed it to the guys in the back as well. Hulk would bring him back, but would first find out why he really left.
-On The Rock
He follows what Heyman said - When the fans figure out that he's not hurt, and is taking time off to do a movie, he'll get booed. The fans want you to be loyal to them. He says Rock had a lot of respect for Hulk, and lauds how professional Rock was during the Wrestlemania match for handling the fans turning on him there. He would welcome Rock back with open arms. Rock had better timing as he crossed over into movies, as there are fewer established action stars. Hogan likens Rock to Vin Diesel.
-On jobbing
He claims to have no problems with it, if it was good for business.
-On Mick Foley, and Cactus' fans won't like this
"I've trained more in the last week than Mick Foley has in 30 years"
"When Mick Foley was sleeping, and eating cheeseburgers and M&Ms, I was in the gym working out"
"It all depends on how much respect you have yourself. Nothing against Mick Foley. I didn't have to prostitute my body, and throw myself over the coals, into the fire and the glass. I decided to train and go another way"
-On Trish Stratus
She's proven she's one of the guys, but she'll feel it in 10 years.
-On Andre
He thought he could reach Andre's status, and Andre kept him down until he earned Andre's respect while working in Japan. He recalled all of the rude comments made about Andre while they were walking through airports.
Hey, I am a Cactus fan, and I think I agree with HOgan. And for the large part I think Mick would agree! He claims he wasn't fit to work out and have a chiseled physique and realized he could endure big bumps..so he went the other way..
As a result Foley is mid to late 30s and nearly crippled and Hogan is 49 yet in better shape than most people will ever be. Oh well..it's all about choices
I agree with most things he say here btw. I too would ask Austin what the fuck he was doing, agree that Trish (and all other women AND men who do this stuff) deserves respect but ofcourse she will feel it in some years. I am offering to massage the pain away though!
Anyways, interesting stuff. I wonder if we will ever see him back or not. I also wonder if I really care or not. Last year was cool, but it has to end somewhere and some how.
It would be nice to see Hogan go out on top beating a midcarder or high profile figure like Vince McMahon or Eric Bischoff. It would be a shame for it to end any other way.
Hey I agree with Hogan as well. Foley's insanity has inspired a nation of teenaged morons to think that, hey, we don't need to be athletes either to succeed in wrestling. They all figure crippling bumps is the way to the top. While one can argue it's not Foley's fault what these kids do, he brought it to the forefront. He should accept some responsibility for its popularity.
Personally, I'd have liked a more fit Foley than we saw. However, maybe he never would have had the success he did if he looked; uh...In shape.
As for Hogan being in better shape at 49 than most people will ever be---He certainly looks as if that were the case. But I doubt very seriously he feels that way. No one over 6'3" ages into their fifties without some kind of serious knee problems (obviously some do but many ail around middle-age because of a half-century of carrying a whole lot of weight on those knee joints). Hogan has always been my favourite and I wish him the send-off he deserves.
Best Quote from Dec. 8 Smackdown recap: "Um, yeah. So you’re telling me all Torrie had to do to save us this crappy TV is please the cheese? Christ…If that’s all it took - I’d eat out LINDA McMAHON to save myself this garbage TV - Hell I’d toss Vince’s salad after a visit from Pat Patterson - uh - maybe not."
While someone could conceivably make those comments about Mick Foley, I don't think that Hogan should be that someone. Coming from him, it looks like a bitter and insulting comment.
Foley wasn't the guy to use steroids. That was Hogan.
Hogan certainly shouldn't ever compare his wrestling ability to Foley's talents. Neither guy got over by sheer force of workrate. All the working out in the world couldn't help Hogan get good matches out of most of his opponents.
Even today, with all his cheeseburger eating and candy digesting, Foley can still outwrestle Hogan.
The call is from heroism, will you accept the charges?
Considering the temper tantrums Hogan threw the two times Russo showed up (when he laid down to Sting and then to Jarrett) on PPV, he shouldn't really be ripping into Austin for leaving. Except for the fans in Atlanta that night, Austin didn't rip-off/bait and switch anyone out of money. Hogan did that to two paying live audiences (WCW/paying, has some comedy value) plus the people who purchased the PPV where Hogan was advertised for main events. Why can't him, Piper and Savage go play in traffic someplace and stay away from wrestling.
(edited by redsoxnation on 26.12.02 1547) I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.
I got kind of a hate/love thing with Hogan. Yes he's annoying and at times seems like a double-talker. But I do think alot of people in the wrestling "media" has it in for him and slant everything he does and says in the most negative light.
Boy did I LOL when he quoted Chyna word by word when she said she "Sold for Lita like a million bucks". Hogan said he "Put Lesner over like a million bucks." What is with these wrestlers (usually bad) wanting to get a million bucks worth of pat on the backs for doing their work and job.
He hates the idiotic HLA and other crap WWE has done. Point for Hogan.
It sure seemed he knew more about the Austin situation then letting on, but I don't blame him for not wanting to open this can of worms.
Another guy who thinks Rock heel return would work well. I agree.
On jobbing it's so amusing that whenever he mentions his job to Kidman he calls him "170 pound Billy Kidman" lol. You could tell that just killed. Hogan was still talking about Kidman like a lot of people are expecting big things for him because he mentioned him as a future star (along with Jericho). And used Kidman as an example on how to build a new star by using Hogan... Someone should tell Hogan that the Kidman bandwagon has left smarksville and there's plenty of room in it.
The Mic Foley part was the most interesting. I don't really see it as insulting Mic, it was more of a comment on how Mic felt he had to do that sort of stuff to get noticed and is paying for it now. But the thing is I pretty sure Mic understands that and is okay with that... On the other hand talk about damaging your body you don't have to look much further then Superstar Billy Graham to see how too much working out and steroids could effect you negatively.
Online wrestling "media" are portraying his Trish comments as a bash on her. Hey I usually have my Trish sensors up on anyone badmouthing her but this looked like a very nice compliment, I just wished some fat crown wearing commentator could feel the same. Being cynical, maybe Hogan is kissing up so she could be his valet and take all the big bumps for him lol... Well Test already beat him in that idea when Trish did all the wrestling during their intergender match a couple of weeks ago
Andre stories are always interesting. Andre had a great A&E Biography on him.
I think the reason Hogan ripped into Foley was because of the way Michael Landsberg asked the question. He insinuated that Hogan took it easy his whole career and didn't take many bumps, which is true.
Of course, Hogan worked 300 dates a year brother which is a total farse because he never worked all the house shows.
I loved his reasoning on why his movie career failed. That was classic. All the big action stars were young but now they're old, that's the only reason Rock is doing better then I did. Does he really believe that?
Oh and about Hogan always doing what's right in the ring. Go talk to Sting, Bret Hart, and Nick Patrick about Starrcade 96, brother.

Why would Nick Patrick, Sting, and Bret Hart be upset about Starrcade '96, unless they paid to watch the PPV and found out the Piper/Hogan Main Event was a non-title match. Someone needs to explain how, at the biggest ppv of the year, the world champ is wrestling in the main event in a non title match.

When I put my "Foley fans won't like this" comment when I first typed this up, it was more directed at the Foley Can Do No Wrong types. I didn't include the intro comment from Landsberg that Mick needed help getting up on the riser of the OTR set, which looks to be a foot high, give or take an inch or two.

I was surprised to see that interpretation as well. I'd paraphrase it as "It wasn't someone that I expected to become a capable wrestler, but she's done just that. She's just as much as a wrestler as any man in that locker room."

I tried to type this review up as neutrally as possible, but that statement had me laughing. I don't think he truly believes that, but it just sounds better as a sound-bite in case some other 80's has-been returns to superstardom so Hulk can pitch Mr. Nanny 2 "This Time It's Personal".

I heard him on a radio show and I actually liked his other excuse errr explanation on why he didn't make it big in Hollywood. He said at the time, the WWF was family oriented and didn't want Hogan to do any ultra violent action movies or real evil character that might damage his or the WWF reputation. I think that's a crock but a better reason then what he gave on OTR.
I don't have 2000 words in me, but I'm into 205 Live again, so imma keep it short(ish). OPEN: Nigel still has his horrible grey-on-black outfit, this time with a shiny paisley tie (barf).
