Since last night was a rerun, I didn't watch the show, but I did goto the buffy website to see if next week's show was new or not.

And they have a video preview for next week's show.

It APPEARS that Giles is alive.

You're all so WONDERFUL. Why did they ever have to remove you from the continuity? You'd have made for MARVELOUS stories. You WILL make marvelous stories. And the FIRST story of the new world will be a story of REVENGE! -- The Psycho Pirate, Animal Man 23, May 1990.

I found out that 12/17 was a new ep, and made sure to catch the end of this week's ONLY to see the preview.

Based on my interpretation of that preview, I'd say that most certainly is a living Giles we saw, and we now also know what Robbson was referring to when he told him to "gather them."

My only problem is that knowing the SPOILERS about Faith being in future episodes, and the spoilers/speculation regarding Dawn's future means that I'm starting to be able to see where all this is heading. Its still neat though.

By the way, does anyone know what the official status is on whether or not this is the last season? There are a few message boards I'd consider poking around on to ask the question, but I don't want to hear any more about future episodes than the little I already know?

Now I can go back and play more Animal Crossing/Smackdown!

The latest word that I got from a site that is for entertainment rumors\gossip\news was that SMG was offerred $750,000 per ep to continue with time off available for movies etc. No word if she accepted or not though. Everything before that pointed to this being the last season with Buffy but that there could be some spinoff with a new slayer presumably Dawn.

God Lord, if Dawn is the new Slayer, then I hope to God this is the last season. I hate her, so much. I might have to do with what I did with X-Files and omit the last season.

I heard Giles and Faith were coming back along with another old major player, but not the way you think. This is shaping up to be a lot like Season 3 with a great storyline and interesting plot twists. Really cool season as long as it doesn't have a crappy Buffy dies to save the world ending that killed Season 5 for me.

A Fan- Sarah take the deal for my sanity as much as yours.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ABOUT THIS 12/17 BUFFY BELOW

On Sunday's the NY UPN affiliate is currently airing season 5 eps (a season I missed except the last episode, which is why I'm watching and enjoying.) Anyway, this Sunday the station cut away for half the ep because of some press conferences regarding the possible Transit Authority Strike, which irritated me and I'm simply mentioning this to vent. However, the reason I bring this up is becuase between news reports, they aired a new commercial for tomorrow's Buffy, and it looks like they are getting closer to Dawn being the slayer than we might think, as they said something about "get to know the new slayers ... while you can..." as they showed a cross and a pool of blood. I thought this was where it was all heading, but it seems a bit quick. Can't wait to see how the ep plays out, although I heard from someone who watched it (I don't know how) that it rocks.

EDIT: SPOILERS FROM 12/17 BUFFY

Ok. Having watched that episode, now I don't know if Giles is really Giles or not. As much as it makes sense for Giles to bring the remaining three slayers to Sunnydale, it would also make sense for the First to want the remaining three slayers around as practice for the neanderthal vamp. I think Drucilla mentioned three dollies at the beginning of the episode, suggesting that this may be the First's line of reasoning. This also indicates that the First at least had a passing knowledge of Giles' and the slayers' movements, if not an active hand in them. Additionally, according to "Giles", the First can only appear as dead people, and cannot actually touch anything. Giles being dead would meet the first criteria. So the only issue left is whether or not Giles touched anything. I don't recall him touching anything. When he presented the books that he stole from the council, the slayers had it. He never hugged Buffy (or rather, Buffy never tried to hug him), which I would have expected upon their reunion. And he didn't try to help pull Buffy out of the hole when she was trying to climb out. Thus, he very well could be immaterial. If it is indeed the case that Giles is the First, then how awesome/evil is it that he's acting as a trusted mentor that they don't even know is dead. On the other hand, if Giles is the First, then there's no basis for trusting his statements regarding what the First can and can't do.

I still want Giles to be Giles, and I'm hoping someone can prove me wrong, but I'm fearing the worst on this.

I also think that Mrs. Summers is Mrs. Summers, but that's another post.

Damn this show is good.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Giles is the First or Joss is just dicking with us net fans knowing we will talk about. Either way, I love and hate it. This season is shaping up to be a true gem and if it doesn't get nominated for best show then I don't want does. I loved Buffy's speech at the end very St. Crispin's Day. I do agree Mrs. Sommers is Mrs. Sommers though there is something about it that screams the First Good One or GOD or whatever thats the opposite of the First One. I guess the Principal is evil as well, too shame, I thought he'd be a good guy. Tough to be black on this show.

I was throwing my hands up in the air when the cast kept saying when need more muscle like Spike. I shouted at my screen, pick up a phone and call LA, I'm sure they could use the week off from doing the Angel/Cordy/Conner thing or bust Faith out.

Back to Giles though won't it be cool if Anya was right and Giles did destroy the Watcher's Council. I guess Giles left in such a rush he didn't know the Watchers were coming to Sunndydale. Things are shaping up to hit full tilt, I just there was less episodes in the season, so we could see the end.

A Fan- Joss is God.

Well, I was watching for Giles to touch things, and I can note that at one point he did sit on a table or desk (more of a lean, but he was definately touching it). I don't know if that's an oversight, or if it doesn't count, or what. Because he didn't have human contact, and I have the impression that it was intentional.

One possibility that I want to bring up is that perhaps Giles is dead, but perhaps this is the good version of what the First Evil is doing (as far as taking the form of dead people). You know, if evil can do it, perhaps good can too. (for balance and all that)

Of course, there may have been subtle evil signs, too. It did seem that 'Giles' was trying to put an awful lot of pressure on Buffy ("It's all up to you." "You're the only one with the strength to fight it." etc.), as if perhaps 'he' was trying to cause Buffy to mentally breakdown. Of course, when one of the slayers-in-training was saying that the last place they would want to be is the hell mouth, I was thinking there is a good bit of logic in that statement too. While the evil seemed to be having good success killing the S.I.T. one by one, it would seem easier to kill them all at once. So bringing them to the hellmouth would seem like a good idea. Then again, there is strength in numbers, so maybe it's not a good idea, or actually it is a "good" idea.

At any rate, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Edit: After reading around on some boards, a few people have pointed out that desks and the like are really no different than the ground, something that all of the "evil" shapes touch. I think that's a valid point. Also, Giles never moved one thing, no books, didn't lift Buffy out of the tunnel, moved nothing. That has to mean something.

I too have considered Joyce and possibly-dead Giles to be sent by the First Good. I also think that this force would explain why the First (Evil) couldn't assume the form of Tara in "Conversations with Dead People". (If you want to screw with Willow, why send some recently dead girl she never met when you can send the real ex-girlfriend?)

However, if Giles is evil, it explains the Annabelle's semi-random running off. Instead of being afraid and running right into the Turok-han, Giles told her to go out and fight it, or encouraged her to run away (and told her exactly where to run to), and right into the Turok-han's waiting arms...

I hope that Giles is alive. I'm really doubting that now, and I'll at least settle for good dead Giles, although evil
dead Giles is an awesome concept, for now.

And regarding the principal, I got the distinct vibe that he's good, and just doesn't realize he and Buffy are on the same page. (I suppose the question becomes, did he go into the basement to dig up the hellmouth after Buffy & co. buried it, or did he go down there to bury it himself?) I think he's the next watcher/good guy mentor. The council has/had some kind of school-board hook-up that gets their offices right above the hellmouth.

A few things.

1. The more discussion I have with people about the Principal, the more I think he is a good guy. There is something going on there, but I don't know what. If he were a Watcher, he would have releaved himself to Buffy now. I do remember in Season 3 when Snyder tryied to kick Buffy out, Giles told him he and his associates would make life very difficult for him. So, I think the Watchers have a hook up in Sunnydale education, but I don't know who or why they haven't shown themselves till now. I think Joss will swerve us with this character yet.

2. Giles is the First One. There are too many things pointing to him not being the First. I'd almost buy the safety in numbers thing for sending the Slayers in Training to the Hellmouth, but when the one girl ran away for no reason, Giles not helping Buffy when she was crawling out of the hole, the no-explaniation on how he survived the shot to the head, he leaving the Watcher's Council at the same time it was destroyed and of course the no human contact the episode told has got me on the Giles is Dead Band Wagon.

3. Joyce is questionable. I buy the fact that there is a possiblity for her to be the good one, after espically after Dawn did the excorism. I am still unsure if this is the First One just screwing with everyone. I'd almost lay money that the First Good One is not going to really show up till later on and not be Joyce. I have a weird feeling we are setting up for a major cameo by someone who is going to be the First Good.

4. Tara was supposed to be in the episode where the First One tempts Willow, but the suits at UPN and her couldn't come to a deal. Blame greed on that missed opppurtinity.

A Fan- I'm learning how to play Buffy CCG and I have to say this is the best multiplayer card game in years, better than Magic and almost good as the old Babylon 5 CCG.

Wow. Even the First Evil is not as powerful as the execs at UPN.

Do you have some spoileriffic information regarding the major cameo that the First Good would be, or are you just guessing? Cuz outside of possibly being Tara (assuming the First Good is more powerful than the UPN execs), I have no clue who you could be thinking of.

Unless the only power that can fight the First Evil is none other than the creator of the Universe, and thus Joss Whedon himself is injected into the storyline, and able to do what he wants with it, in a post-modern twist similar to Mr. McMahon the WWF character.

I am Joss Whedon, DAMNIT!!! (Insert evil Vince snarl)

The First Good is just a guess. My hunch is on the fact that Joyce during the dreams seems is giving out very coherent advice. I do think God talks to Buffy would be a great cool scence espically with Joss writing it. I just don't know how they can fight a villian like the first without some outside help. Of course, they killed Glory and she was a God.

A Fan- If I had to pick a good character to play God, it would be me.

Jkyle.com says:

I'm just glad we got conformation that the First Evil is the thing that impersonated Ms. Calendar.

I'm STILL upset by how much of a non-event Jonathon's death is being treated as. I mean, the Scoobies learning of his death was off camera?

As for Wood, I think he might be an agent of Whistler/The Powers That Be. Maybe that's just me wanting that FINALLY resolved.

And if this the last season, it's a shame Oz won't show up for a more fitting swan song.
