If you wanna talk about under publicized than you have to talk about Steve McNair. I know he doesn't have a snowball chance in hell but a little recogniton is good.
If any of you saw Monday Night Football last night you see what I'm talking about. He does that every week and no one notices. He did it last week against the "number 2" defense in the NFL and had Brad Scioli looking for his jock and he did it this week against a team that, if you listen to some people, we had no chance against.
Steve McNair is one of,it not THE, toughest QB in the NFL and I'd rather have no one else. He's my MVP.
I'll call him MVP while the rest of the NFL calls him Mr. McNair.
I've always thought that the league MVP should go to the guy without whom a team would be (almost) totally lost. The MVP's team should make the playoffs and it should be clear that without him they would not have.
In my mind, Kurt Warner never actually fit that description. It shouldn't just be about statistics. Favre had less than 200 yards passing the other day. I still don't think the Pack would have won without him. Ditto McNair; entering the second quarter he was 6 for 15 (mind you he had 60 or 70 rushing yards). McNair's ability to keep calm, give up on the pass, and run the ball won that game. And this from a guy who hasn't practiced in weeks.
Gannon is having a great year; but how much of that is due to a great offensive structure and a great offensive talent-pool? Do you think the Raiders could even attempt that many passes if they didn't have the receiving corps that they do? I'm not saying Gannon hasn't played spectacularly at times, but I can see another quarterback doing it given the right talent and a similar situation.
Can you see a guy like Gannon beating San Francisco with the Pack the other night? What about beating New England with Tennessee last night?
I can't.
I'd go on a long tangent here about consideration for defensive players, however we all know they don't really get any (unless Simeon Rice or Warren Sapp take it, but they're more likely to cancel eachother out).
Yeah, looking at some of the film they have up, I think a NFL defense would eat this formation alive, one pre-snap had quad recievers to the left, 2 on the right, the 2 quarterbacks, and just a 3-man line.
