Random thoughts...

What's with the eye in Victoria's palm?
Trish teams with Test? Where did that come from?
Lawler seemed unusually calm - not his usual twelve-year-old self.
RVD looks heavier...he should find healthier food when he gets the munchies.
Why did they even bother with Batista tonight?
Jeff Hardy vs. D'Lo - a really sloppy match, followed by a really sloppy angle (a true "racist" angle - probably a first).
Is Raven envious of Test's body spray ads?
Is this Jericho's new gimmick - extended ad breaks in the middle of his promos?
Really disorganized ending to the wrestling main event.
No "Wind Beneath My Ring" - Praise God.
Meshhead Mushmouth is your new babyface. Holla if you see him in three months.

At first, I wasn't enthused with Steiner and HHH colliding... but the longer the segment went on, the more I liked it!

Who else was hoping Steiner would snap legit? I was really getting the feeling some of that was more real than scripted.. lol. Good work by Steiner and HHH, if that was the intention. I got a kick out of Flair's reactions to all of Steiner's threats.

Hey, I thought Victoria's entrance video was neat, eye-in-hand and spinning head and all that. Really gets the psycho vibe going.

In fact, the opening match was my favorite until Booker/Jericho. A little short maybe, but it was fast, well-booked, and the crowd was way into it. And I'm actually intrigued as to where they're going with Raven and Test. So chalk up one in the "good" column, at least.

And I laughed at "New improved Ass Cream -- now with 35% more ass!" I am twelve.

On the other hand ... oh, geez, D'lo. Did someone show Gewirtz some tapes of early NWA-TNA and he decided, "That's just what the show needs -- RACISM!"

I hope they don't keep up the "RVD tries to get Kane to lighten up" gags. Isn't the whole point of Kane's character lately that he HAS lightened up? And of course having him just be Kane's tag partner of the week is a waste of RVD, but I think we're all used to RVD being buried by now.

The closing segment was well-done and should have been exciting ... and it might have been if it were leading up to anything other than Scott Steiner vs. Triple H.

Steiner keeps getting more catchphrases, and he tries to work in every single one of them. Seriously, the stuff he was saying out there was "I'm still real and I'm still Da Juice" level coherence.

I was hoping he'd sign with Heat and they'd reveal it as part of Raven's masterpiece.

Oh no! Chief Moorley booked a non-wrestling main event! Oh no! Eric Bischoff also booked a non-wrestling main event! Result? A WHOLE LOTTA NON-WRESTLING

I will say that the ensuing non-wrestling main event was one of the better non-wrestling main events.

Oh great. A racial angle. You can never get enough of THOSE. Maybe D-Lo can find a dead white guy to have sex with while he's at it.

When all else fails, more ASS CREAM. That's what I always say.

HHH - He can run over the locker room, wave stroke over any angle, get his way in any storyline in the blink of an eye. But can he wear a tie properly? HELL NO

Eh. It was all worth it for the RVD/Kane/Coach promo.

Steiner's intensity in the main angle was pretty impressive. Maybe because he doesn't have all his marbles but he showed really good intensity when backing HHH down.

Plus, Steiner with a live microphone is always an adventure for everyone involved.

I found myself wondering on several occasions tonight just why I was still watching the show. Nothing seemed bad but onthing was particularly good either, other than seeing Victoria's head spin around on her shoulders during her entrance video. But then they showed Raven standing in the parking lot and I popped big. He wasn't even WALKING, just standing. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with me or the WWE when the only time I pop the entire night is when a guy just stands in the parking lot and doesn't say a word.

I had fun watching the show tonight. I really, really did. The one thing you have to say is that, for a stricty WWE-oriented fan, at least Scott Steiner's someone with "name value" who's never been in a main-event feud in this federation.

But, I laughed a few times tonight, especially at the whole "HHH is protecting his main event spot" thang. Come on, are you going to say that you didn't see the double meaning? "You've got to earn your spot." Priceless! OH THE WIT!!!

But, what made me laugh more than anything else out there tonight was Lawler referring to Storm and Regal as the "Rodney Dangerfields" of the WWE...why? Because my mind immediately went backstage to this exchange:

REGAL: We get no respect I tell you, no respect!

STORM: I know. It's like me and my wife. It's rough, I'll tell you... I haven't spoken to her in years. I didn't want to interrupt her.

Then, we'd hear a rimshot and both would pose. Ah, why I haven't been hired as a writer is beyond me.

So, I had fun besides some sloppiness (and there was some, believe me, even an optimist can notice!), and the fact that Nowinski was on, but got NO MIC TIME!!!!!! ARE YOU PEOPLE INSANE???????

Oh, and Shawn? I love ya, buddy, but just wear t-shirts. Tank tops are...euwww.

And, one more thing, or else this post would be totally incomplete...

D-VON AND BAUTISTA ARE GODS AND SHOULD RULE THE WRESTLING WORLD!!!!!

!!!!!!

They should push Batista as the RAW monster and have D-VON DUDLEY beat Brock Lesnar and become the Smackdown monster and have a big payoff fight on PPV.

Those two are the future of pro-wrestling.

Random thoughts... NOW with thirty-five per cent mooooooore AAAASS!

"...I don't even know what that means." Man, that was the best segment of the show. I think one of these days they should just let everyone on RAW take the night off and make it a two-hour Christian Comedy Special. With Special Guests, Goldust and Booker T! Watch for the RVD cameo when the capital of Belgium is discussed!

Trish and Test teaming together wasn't weird. Or wasn't as weird as Trish and Stacy teaming together, anyway.

I think Jeff will have to retire the railrunner move soon, which is really kind of funny.

See, remember when he was first using it, he could start running the barricade all the way on the other side of the ring, and he wouldn't have any problem running the whole length of the way perfectly. Now all he can do is hop onto the corner, and even then he has problems with it. People usually say it's because he's deteriorated or he's hopped up on goofballs or something, but I think I've figured out what the problem really is with the move; he has no room to do it anymore, because now that people care about his matches they're more likely to be leaning on the barricade. Back in 1999 the crowd wasn't really into him, so they were sitting back in their seats and he could run the whole way; now that he's over, he can't do the move anymore. The more popular he gets, the less he can do one of the neat innovative spots that brought him popularity.

Joseph Heller would have loved that shit.

I loved the instant recovery off of the iffy flapjack in the Booker/Jericho match. The move looked kind of ugly, this silence started to settle over the room, and instantly Booker went straight into the Spinaroonie and the crowd went nuts. That's professionalism, baby!

When the Jericho crowd work was being obscured by the commercial, I was hoping and praying that the feed would come back and Jericho would be saying "Move number three-hundred and fifty seven! ARMBAR!" but no such luck. ^_^

This was easily Steiner's best promo since he's joined WWE and it's not just because:

1. He was bashing Triple H
2. He was COHERANT!

Steiner's promo sent a basic message: "I'm better than you are! You can't beat me!" It reeked of old-school feuds and I love it! God help me, but I'm actually PUMPED to see Triple H/Steiner at the Royal Rumble!

It was so good that I'm ALMOST willing to forgive Triple H for subtly burying Austin and Rocky. Sure, buddy. It's easy to bash someone who's drawn more money than you ever will when they aren't around.

HE'S STANDING!!!!!
So the first Raw I get to watch in months, and my hero makes an appearance. Tee hee, I was giddy as a school girl when Raven showed up. And the RVD/Kane/Coach thing was also spectacular. I was not dissapointed to watch it. Now if only the dorm cable system would carry TNN...

I have to agree with this one. The Testicle gag ran its course, I saw the jeans behind the truck and thought "Well, let's see who it is" and then Raven strolled on out and suddenly I was paying more attention than I did to almost the entire show.

Guy just stood there and looked grumpy and he has our full attention.

Of course, they can't give him any mic time or he'll start foreshadowing again, like the last time we saw him in the parking lot and he broke the Austin/Debra story a couple weeks before it happened.

Or he'll take Kanyon shopping. That's what I'm hoping for.

What's with the eye in Victoria's palm?

Hell if I know. Maybe it's got some connection to JR calling her a witch so often. What's up with her head spinning all the way around on her titantron video?

Trish teams with Test? Where did that come from?

Just a circumstantial thing as a result of their current feuds. Test has had recent issues with Stevie Richards and Trish has had recent issues with Victoria. Since Stevie and Victoria are connected by storyline, Test and Trish were put together for the mixed tag. Of course, Test and Trish have some history (T & A) but, that wasn't acknowledged by the announcers.

Lawler seemed unusually calm - not his usual twelve-year-old self.

He did squeal "puppies" before Trish even made it halfway down the ramp. Plus, during the match, he was talking about how it's tough to look in Trish's eyes because her eyes aren't on her breasts. What the hell?

RVD looks heavier...he should find healthier food when he gets the munchies.

Ha! A little wink with the RVD "What've you been smoking, dude?" to Coach.

Why did they even bother with Batista tonight?

I was wondering the same thing. Just another lame and uncreative way to have Batista involved with some upper level guys without having to be involved in the decision.

Jeff Hardy vs. D'Lo - a really sloppy match, followed by a really sloppy angle (a true "racist" angle - probably a first).

Yes, that match was sloppy enough on Heat. I wasn't really anxious for the rematch. I guess D-Lo is going to regress to his old Nation of Domination days now.

Is Raven envious of Test's body spray ads?

Good to see Raven on Raw but, JR no sold it.

Is this Jericho's new gimmick - extended ad breaks in the middle of his promos?

That's a gimmick that would be PERFECT for HHH.

Really disorganized ending to the wrestling main event.

Yes, where was Chief Morley to demand that it be a tag match?

No "Wind Beneath My Ring" - Praise God.

Ha! And no bouncing HHH head and no Angle interrupting with a milk truck. What if Steiner had interrupted with a giant syringe and sprayed down HHH and everyone in the ring with steroids?

Meshhead Mushmouth is your new babyface. Holla if you see him in three months.

Yes, he must have learned that WWE Main Event Style without having a single match on WWE TV. What a match. It will probably be as exciting as that Raw match where HHH had to wrestle the Rock while HHH had one of his legs in a cast.

My comment:
That final segment was full of stuff that's been done.

The "appreciation night" concept.

That's the 3rd time HHH has been involved in a segment where someone comes down to the ring and goes on and on about having beaten everyone before getting interrupted by someone they haven't beaten (by the way, when did HHH beat Hogan?). HHH did the same thing after his 2 out of 3 fall win over Stone Cold at 2001 No Way Out. He was interrupted by the Undertaker and reminded that he hadn't beaten Taker as a prelude to their WrestleMania match. Jericho did the same thing after Royal Rumble last year and he was interrupted by HHH who reminded him that he had never beaten HHH.

And, that's the second time HHH has used the "big fish in a small pond" metaphor for a former WCW wrestler. He did the same thing to Benoit on Benoit's first appearance on SmackDown.

Also, yet another Raw where the Raw Rewind featured Stone Cold Steve Austin. Plus, HHH mentioned Stone Cold in 2 seperate segments tonight.

Steiner/HHH was worth the price of admission. The wrestling tonight seemed totally off. Everyone was half a step slow and the acting was worse than normal, if that is possible. Maybe it is Post-PPV hangover. A Race angle...great. That is what WWE needs. hopefully this will die a fast death after TNN starts getting complaints. But, maybe D'Lo is about to re-form the Nation...but Mark Henry is out, the Rock is out, Ron Simmons retired, and the God Father has been released. Well...maybe those White Rappers are available. The D'Lo/Jeff Hardy match had HEAT written all over it. Actually it had Indy Show written all over it. It was horrid. D'Lo and Jeff in a miss-a-spot-a-thon. Why is 3 Minute Warning still around? I mean, JR gets on Show about his weight all the time and these Hippos look like they haven't missed a Buffet in about 10 years!!!!! I just don't get it. They aren't over, they seem like a nuisance more than anything.

But like I said, HHH/Steiner had a great confrontation and we will see if Steiner becomes "Just Another Victim" to HHH. I can see Eric trying to keep the 2 apart until the Rumble like Vince did with Stone Cold and HHH before No Way Out. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how they play the actual match. Will Steiner go over? I would think he has to. What is the point of getting him on board and then promptly losing to HHH?

I am getting ahead of myself here. The Raw tonight was a 2.5 out of 5. Just a sloppy show with a great finish. I am sure Smackdown will make up for this.

I keep amusing myself imagining Raven talking to Stacy backstage, considering his certified genius IQ and the general belief that Stacy is pretty much as intelligent as she comes across on TV. They should really just let Raven adlib and tell Stacy to follow along just to see what happens.

Holy wrestling! Jezebel has new music and a new video. DLo plays the race card. Raven appears in the background. Testi-cles will get to replace those OLD Bod commercials. Wow - a match booked for next week? A match booked for the next PPV?

Oh, I'm sorry, was there something after the Booker/Jericho match? Sorry, I don't watch crap. Freaks, peaks, blah blah blah. Damn, they wasted an over-run on THAT?

Overall: good show, save the last 20 minutes.

Most annoying commercials: Bod, Spyro

Apply this statement to many wrestlers. I'll get you started. No matter how they repackage him, he's still TEST!

Other Raw thoughts:
-After my diatribe about talents from the farm system that have deteriorated, it was very apropos to see Batista and 3 Minute Warning teaming up. These three are among the biggest disappointments to come out of OVW and HWA and they stunk up the ring again tonight. Batista has a nice lariat and a good sitout powerbomb, but what else does he have?

-Teaming Trish with Test made no sense. Amazing how Trish carried the match on her own, showing she's deserving of her Most Improved Wrestler award.

-Pencil in Dudleyz/UnAmericans 2.0 for the Royal Rumble...or a few weeks from now, who knows? If you don't believe they're getting the blowjob push of the year, then is there any other reason why anybody's even keeping track of their winning streak? 8 straight weeks!

-Remember 5 years ago when Faarooq was starting the Nation of Domination and playing the race card? D-Lo has truly come full circle. And he's STILL in Midcard Hell.

-RVD and Kane are, individually, two of the worst interviewees in the business. But combined, they had awesome chemistry. This was easily their funniest promo in weeks and any promo that results in Coach gasping for air is ok in my book. CHOKING COACH = RATINGS!!!
