And of course, all the Springer guests get to come to Chicago, which is probably why we don't release our stats. I do know that we're closing in on 600 homicides for 2002 though.
y-town # 19? geeze, we're slipping. i remember several years ago (maybe 10 now) hearing on the local news about the latest shooting homicides, which were just about every night. it was getting in the 60's & 70's some years. i guess it really toned down...either that, or they all just killed each other off.

The weird thing about Tampa, is that there really isn't a "nice" part of town. It's all sort of mixed up. And, until I moved there, I'd never called 911 in my entire life. I did it at least once a month while I lived there.
But there's lots of fun stuff to do.
And it's not surprising how dangerous Florida cities tend to be. We are a state full of weirdos. I'd say at least 60% of Springer guests are from Florida.
I'm not surprised either. I lived in St. Pete for a year and always hated driving to Tampa for any reason, even work. St. Pete is no peach either. It's got some nice places to live, but when you get outside of the decent places, forget it.

Good lord, reading all this makes me happy I live in a "safe" Florida city. I think Jacksonville is just too boring to actually be dangerous in any way.
Treasure Planet ruled all kinds of ass. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Is Gary, Indiana, really that dangerous of a city, or have I just been living under a rock? I just think of "The Music Man" when I think of that place.
Memphis doesn't surprise me. I went to Graceland once and was basically beseiged by beggars during my whole stay. Of course, we were mostly staying around the Graceland area. Beale St. was fun, but otherwise it was a shithole.
New Orleans is always rightfully labeled a dangerous town. Veer too far off Bourbon St. and you're in trouble.

Yes, it really is that much of a hellhole. I have friends who live there whose biggest desire is to get te hell out. Unfortunately, they are trapped there under the terms of their teaching contracts for another 2.5 years. The economy in Gary collapsed like the rest of the rust belt and has never recovered except for the pawnshops and the crack and crystal meth dealers. Most of inner city Gary is decaying and the suburbs are desperately trying to distance themselves from Gary.

Regarding the Iranian unrest article, I would say that one major reason the U.S. is trying not to get out in front too much on this issue is that the last thing we want is for it to appear like these protests are designed to show how much Iranians want U....
