Over the past several months Edge has been receiving a major push from WWE management, and has been a part of several great matches on P.P.V and Smackdown.

There is no denying that he has been involved in some great matches as both a tag team partner and an individual wrestler. However, in these matches he has worked with some of the best in the business. And when I see Edge on his own, I have never perceived him as possessing that "it". That thing that seperates the Superstars from the rest.

Maybe I'm missing something, but is Edge really as good as what some of his matches have shown or is he made to look good by the people he has worked with?

Is he this generation's Sting? Enlighten me Wieners!

I buy into their characters so it's hard for me Ah. to really care about Edge much at the moment, besides the fact that he'll end up facing Angle and Benoit or the Guerreos at No Mercy.

If he can get the right angle he'll be fine. If not, would you really mind an entertaining The Undertaker?

(Also Edge has his first one on one Pay Per View main event this month or next( Unless he gets the main event of No Mercy) At the Rebellion UK Pay Per View where he goes one on one in the main event with Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.)

I still think Edge needs a last name. Y'know, to make him easier to market. I hate wrestler's names that are monosyllabic. It's hard to chant! (They never chant anything for Undertaker, though, so big deal) It looks dumb on a marquee! Adam "Edge" Copeland, on the other hand...is still pretty lame. Ah, screw it.
Edge IS one of my favorites, though. He's fun to watch in the ring and fun to listen to on the mic.

Yeah, lord knows this would never draw:

(insert) vs. Rock

Rock needs a last name.

(and yes, I know he has one, but it's not like they use it...to hype shows anyway.)

As for Edge, his time will come soon. I think he's the next challenger to Brock, he probably won't win, but he'll come really close and that'll keep him near the top, chasing Lesnar (on some level) for a good while.

The way he's marketed, The Rock's last name is... well... "Rock", first name "The." And a crowd can chant "Rocky." "Let's Go Edgy" just doesn't fit, and a certain Irish guitarist might have a beef about "The Edge."

I'll shut up again now.

It's funny how often we have topics where people bitch about Edge not having "it". Just as much as people bitch about Benoits promos or Jerichos sloppiness and and and........it's about time to find something new.

I don't know about that. I've heard a few Kane chants on TV. That didn't seem too hard.

Not so much a bitch as much as wondering if I'm missing something about the guy. Much like I'm missing all the other discussion threads on this topic.

I think Edge is going to be a big star, he has charisma and thats what seperates the main eventers from the mid-carders. Just let him grow on ya for a while.

Also about the name thing, I think Lance Storm wrote something about that on his web site. that its harder for a guy to get over if he has a name that cant be chanted. Somone who is smarter than me should put up the link to it.

It's a good Read

Though, "Let's Go Edge" is not a terrible chant. I like Edge, I personally think he has "it".

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (0-4) - Bye weeks are boring (round 2)
Badgers (5-1) - Congrats to Penn State. Time to rethink our defense.
Twins (1-1) - The team looked like hell. Hopefully we can steal one in Cali.

I think that once Edge focuses on finding an entrance that doesn't give me an epileptic seizure every time he comes out he'll be fine.

He doesn't have the "carry" factor.
By which I mean the Angle/Eddy/Flair ability to carry a shmuck to a passable match. In fact, with these guys, people know they're so good that when they have to work with them they try a lot harder. Look at Hogan in WCW. When he was booked with Flair, as apposed to Big Bubba Rogers in WCW, he was two different men. The one with Flair was motivated.

I don't think Edge will ever be able to carry crappy workers to fantastic contests, but as Austin proved, as a face, you don't need to do that to have entertaining matches. Or marketable matches.

By the way, the full form of Edge's name is Edgefield. Edgefiled Copeland. You can see why he just goes by Edge. Edge-Field-Cope-Land! clap-clap-clapclapclap! Edge-Field-Cope-Land! clap-clap-clapclapclap!

This last week, I saw Edge twice live (Tucson house show & Smackdown taping in Phoenix) & then watched the televised Smackdown. Edge has "it", & even moreso in person than what comes across on TV.

In the house show, we got Edge/Brock "for the championship". The crowd was not hugely into Brock. Edge, however, got a huge pop. I wasn’t actually expecting much from this match, since we all knew that Edge couldn’t possibly win, & Brock wasn’t really selling his entrance that much. It turned out to be so good & so fun. They did a bunch of the same move sequences that they incorporated into their subsequent Smackdown match, & a whole lot more. I had the sense that Edge was keeping Brock on his toes, making sure he was staying “in the moment” (although that could just be me). When it was finally over, & Brock had won, Edge did an HBK “well, I tried” shrug, & we loved him.

The Brock/Tajiri vs. Rey/Edge match from Smackdown was better live than it came across on TV. We've had some discussion about the edit where they tried to not show Brock screwing up so dangersouly with Rey. There may have been some other editing too.

In both those matches, I felt it was Edge "leading" the match & making things work. (Brock's still a rookie -- that's OK.) Edge definitely gets the crowd reaction. I think he does have "it" -- it may be that now is the time.

I've always been an Edge fan, but wasn't always a believer that he could be main event material. Until the split. I think so far the one person that really benefited from the split was Edge. I give a lot of credit to Kurt Angle who give Edge a major rub and did everything he can to allow Edge to look like a star (I adore Angle).

Edge comes out to legit pops. Sometimes it's hard to tell on Smackdown but I see a lot of people standing and getting into him. Also it just felt right seeing Edge/Brock, it didn't look out of place at all. I might be insane but I saw the crowd seem just as much into Edge's babyface comeback vs. Brock then Undertakers run-in vs. Brock in that same match.

Maybe Edge hasn't carried anyone to a great match, but the thing I give to Edge is that he never anchors a great wrestler and heck two of the best wrestlers (Angle, Eddie) I would consider them having one of their 2 best matches of the year with Edge. Angle(Benoit, Edge) Eddie(RVD, Edge). So Edge is having memorable matches with stars, isn't that what you want from your main eventers.

I think Edge is ready for the last step to the Main Event, but only after he does something with that hair, as you know, Vince has got this Steinbrenner complex going about grooming. see Martin, Andrew; Tian, Chris (that is, if you REALLY believe 1bob)

Edge has really grown in the last year as performer, and as a character. I took a look at last year's ladder match with Christian at Unforgiven (or was it No Mercy...ugh, too many Carlings) and while it was a great match, you can see the progress he has made by leaps and bounds when compared to the Smackdown classic with Eddy a few weeks back. I say he should be the next in line to try to knock off the Big Thing, and let them feud until the Angle turn is complete in time for WM 2003.

"So this is the Pacific Northwest, huh? What a dump," said Angle, "Why do we have to come to Seattle? If it wasn't for Kurt Cobain and 'Frasier,' nobody outside this rain forest would even know who you people are."

On the question of whether Edge is this generations Sting: No. Remember this about Sting, within 2 months of debuting in the NWA at Starrcade '87, he was being invited to join the Horsemen, which he refused, then within 4 months of his debut he was going to a draw with Flair for the World Title, which provided immediate legitimacy. In terms of Edge, he has been in the Fed for over 4 years, so he is not 'he came out of nowhere' like Sting was. The reason Sting was able to be Sting is he entered an NWA vacuum where Luger was still green, and even a year later there was a void left from Magnum T.A.'s accident. Edge has the 'Brood' legacy, the E&C Tag Team legacy, and a few face/heel turns already under his belt. This is not to say Edge won't be a main eventer, its to say what happened to cause Sting to become Sting was a fluke, and it can't be recreated.

I don't think that's what was meant by Edge being Sting.

I think that the comparison was that:

-Sting only really had really good matches with other really good workers (Flair, mostly)

-Sting was really over despite not really giving the fans a reason for his overness 90% of the time. Other than his Horseman stuff and his time as "Crow Sting" he just kind of hung out in the uppercard and didn't do much.

-Sting was only really a transitional champ. He never held the belt for a really extended period of time, and WCW, I guess, never fully trusted him to carry the company.

Using these three criteria, I'd say that Edge is not "The New Sting", from this point of view.

There are a few contenders in the WWE, but at this point, I don't think Edge is one of them.

I should note that either they forgot the Sin Cara lighting, or they've finally scrapped it. Hopefully the latter. Josh called the Neutralizer the "Equalizer" and JBL didn't correct him. I was sad.
