10am Eastern, the Senators will hold a press conference to announce the signing of Hasek to a one year deal with an option for one more. The deal is reported to be in the 2mil range, with bonuses that could reach close to 5 million.
Any thoughts? I am not sure where this will lead Ottawa, but it will be interesting if Hockey starts sometime this year...
An old guy with a bad attitude and injury problems? Well, I guess the price was right. What I'm most interested to see is what happens if Hasek has any personality issues with anyone in Ottawa. John Muckler bent over backwards to kiss Hasek's ass in Buffalo, you have to wonder what would happen if there's a clash ala Hasek/Ted Nolan in the Ottawa dressing room.
All that aside, though, the problem with the Senators wasn't entirely Patrick Lalime. Until they get some top guys in there who aren't totally psyched out by having to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs. Get a guy with some heart in a trade for Daniel Alfredsson and then maybe you'll have something.
The new NHL season brings back memories of seasons past, so I've decided to do a little retrospective of...the Year of Goaltending Dangerously, when the Flames set the NHL record for most goaltenders used in a season. The year was 1998-99.
