Randy Orton was involved in a motorcycle accident resulting in him re-injuring his collarbone. Orton had initially injured his collarbone last June at One Night Stand, during his confrontation with Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship.

As a result of re-injuring the collarbone, Orton will be out of action for three months.

I know it's mean but I did chuckle a little bit when I saw this article. But yeah, that's not good, he was rumored to return at Summerslam. Maybe he still is and this is just to swerve the internet fans?

I guess the match might have an actual finish now.

10 weeks out from the event of a broken collarbone, & he's riding a motorcycle. Brilliant. (And a 3 week old baby at home, as I understand it.)

I'm not inclined to think this is a plotline swerve. Although I'm also thinking it might not be 100% accurate either... (But that's just me being a skeptic.)

Is this really news? I mean I believe the WWE is doing fine without him.

Of course it's news.

I mean, the #1 wrestler on the PWI 500 got injured.

yes? although it's a different kind of news if WWE made up a motorcycle injury just to re-swerve their swerve for a SummerSlam finish.

I don't know whether I'd rather see Orton as the leader of Rhodes and DiBiase as the 2nd gen legend killers, or Orton and Batista reunited as the top heels. I guess they could combine both ideas.

I thought they buddy buddy'd up rhodes and dibase with JBL?

While Batista and Orton together again would be nostalgic, I'd be hard pressed to see the motivation for either of them. Neither one of them really thinks they "need" anybody else... Orton because he's too arrogant, Batista because, well, he's a tank.

Even better -- he got the brilliant idea to take up motorcycle riding 6 weeks out from the event. Where 6 weeks is the standard, minimum broken bone healing time. What, the day the doctor cleared him to resume normal use, he celebrates by buying a motorcycle?

I'm glad he's not dead, & I'm glad he's not injured worse than he is. But, jeez, how stupid can you be??

I like this idea that this is a WWE worked news story.

Yeah, I'm starting to be a little skeptical. He's wearing only shorts and a sweatshirt and the extent of his injuries is the rebroken collarbone and some skinned-up areas? And the only places it's been talked about is wwe.com and randy-orton.com. Ben Roesthlesberger goes 10 feet on his bike and it's all over the place; I can't imagine Orton would fly 300 and get no media coverage.

Well, the length of Roethlisberger's flight was interrupted by him going facefirst into a car windshield. And Ben's world championship was a bigger deal than Randy's. It would be cool if WWE.com gained the ability to make news real, though. WWE REFEREE IN MULTIPLE SUICIDE SHOCKER.

This is still pro-wrestling. Outside of our little world, no one cares. McMahon cures cancer tomorrow, and at most he'll get a little blurb at the end of Entertainment Tonight which will probably end with them mocking him.

If the media can't tie it to steroids/Benoit, they don't care. Randy Orton MAY be a top WWE star, but he's still a J-class celebrity to the rest of the world. Just how the celebrity food chain works.

I disagree; it's still news. Austin's wife-beatings got publicity; Lawler's antics with women have; HHH's wedding got publicity; heck, even the "McMahon's limo blows up" angle got some outside publicity. Whatever level you want to call Orton, I think there would be SOME outside publicity for a motorcycle accident such as this. If it turns out to be legit, perhaps the low level of injuries is the cause, but normally stuff like this gets covered.

Hmm... I have a short amount of space to devote to sports, am I going to cover a WWE injury, or any story involving the Olympics?

Fun fact: when McMahon was "crushed" by the RAW set in his last TV appearance a columnist in Houston treated it as a real story.

In his hometown or wherever the injury took place? Well, you're going to dedicate some space to the injury.

Every sports page has a "news and notes" section for small little tidbits like this. Hardly takes up any space at all, but no one has it. That's puzzling.

That was a great promo from Edge & Cena. Except for maybe Cena saying it was the greatest rivalry of all time. It's not. As far as turns go, I have a weird feeling we may see Batista turn on HHH at Backlash.
