Playing strong defense AND being the "man" (or one of the Top Guys) for your team is becoming a lost art form. Pippen did it best - I still have never figured out why Jordan won all the Defensive Player awards.
I don't get it either. For some reason in the NBA (and in MLB too) really good offensive players win all the defensive awards too when they don't always deserve it. Out of the superstar offensive players in the NBA Shaq, Duncan, and Garnett are really the only great defensive players. Kobe makes first all defensive team every year when a guy like Doug Christie should be.
I'm personally waiting to see if he can do a repeat performance. If the Clippers get this far, but lose Sam Cassell (THE single reason for the Clippers' turnaround) in the offseason, all these good feelings could be for naught.
