This is potentially huge news for the Satellite Radio business (especially with Stern threatening to take his act to Satellite when his current contract is up), & I was just curious as to whether any of you guys have experience with XM & what your opinions were of it.

XM, of course, is awesome radio. I get it on the road a lot from Hertz. I don't think it's worth 10 bucks a month though. But if you're a sports nut, it might be. Sound is great, the tuner is wonderful and there's tons of stuff on there. If I worked in NYC again, I might get it, just because you're on the road 3 hrs a day. It would be awesome for a driver of any sort.

And if I remember correctly, XM is partially owned by Clear Channel. I guess this is the first shot across the bow of Sirius, where I assume Stern will go.

If you look real hard today; in-between the payola controlled playlists, shock jocks, and right wing frat-boy talk radio, you still might acutely find a decent LOCAL radio station. Now by the end of the decade, thanks to Americans addiction to everything plastic and spoon fed, they will go the way of the Do Do bird and of everything else local, but in the meantime I will put a little effort into finding the gems that made radio the great medium it was for so many decades. Best yet, its free radio, what a concept.

Dude, calm down. Everything's going to be all right. Just breathe.
Personally, the return of O and A might just get me to get XM radio. I would pay 10 a month to get rid of commercials and for more choice (so I actually kinda agree with Nag about the radio stations) in what I listen to. I enjoyed the O & A show, but I hope that XM will list other shows that would be on this "premium" channel.
Joe Wilson (looking at Interocitor manual)- Hey, here's something my wife could use in the house... Crow T. Robot- A man? Joe Wilson- An interocitor incorporating an electron sorter. Cal Meechum- Oh, she'd probably gain 20 pounds while it did all the work for her. Tom Servo- Cal, you bitch!

| #9 Posted on 9.8.04 0617.09 | Instant Rating: 0.00 | O&A == sold. Now I just have to wonder what combination of car/computer/home stereo adapter kits I'll want to get.
I'll also wonder how long it'll take for fans to start posting completed shows to USENET and P2P, and how long it'll take for XM to start going after them with bazookas. (My answers: Not Long and Not Long.)
