* Who wins fewer games this year, the Giants or Orioles? Discuss.
* Game of the day was Milwaukee/Chicago. A fantastic pitcher's duel, a wild ninth, another sign that Gagne is shot, Fukudome becomes a legend after just one game, and in classic Cubs fashion, they lose in the end.
* My brother walked into the room at one point during the Arizona-Cincy game and asked 'Who are the Nuxhall brothers?'
* JI
* JIM THOME
* Ok, so the Nats and Braves play last night in Washington, but now the Nats are in Philly and the Braves move on to play Pittsburgh? It was just a one-game series? What's up with that?
“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras| Promote this thread! | | PeterStork

a gimmick to show off the Nats' new ballpark on "opening night." They might be the only team with a new stadium this year (since Mets and Yankees and Twins are all next year).
The Nats don't play home until next week.

If it is only a minor hamstring injury for Victor Martinez, then the Indians are very fortunate. I thought he either tore something or blew out his knee when he went awkwardly towards 2nd on a passed ball. | supersalvadoran

Johan Santana pitches 7 strong innings and David Wright and Jose Reyes get their bats going in a 7-2 victory over the Marlins. Plus the Yankee game gets rained out, so the Mets will have to get all the front page headlines tommorrow.

The team gives you 8 shutout innings, you come into the game with a 3 run lead, and you blow the save. The fact that they regained the lead in the top of the 10th and that gives you the win is a travesty, a sham, and a mockery. It's a traveshamockery!

Did the Brewers not see him fall into mop-up duty for the Red Sox down the stretch last season before investing 8 figures in him? To make it easier on Brewers fans this year, just change the n to an m in his name. | spf

Anyone who expects better from Gagne is a hopeless optimist or mildly retarded. There's no other explanation. He is terrible.

Gomez is going to be a long term project, but for the one night he looked fantastic.

They were wondering if he's like that all season long, or if it was just because it was opening day.
Thank goodness Victor is only day-to-day, that's 2 opening day injuries in a row for him. Funny too, since Shoppach started off the 8th inning rally.
What the heck happened to the Tribe bullpen?
Mighty Casey comes thru for the win!
I wonder if it had something to do with the...how shall I put it...dubious umpiring in yesterday's game?
I think between the whole of last year, and some of the calls yesterday, the karma checkbook for the Sox is now balanced for the Doug Eddings call from 2005.

I think we were hoping he could put his bad days in Boston and Texas behind him and return to the form he had in Los Angeles (much like happened with Francisco Cordero last season). In Gagne's case, his pre-form was before Tommy John surgery and the steroid accusations. Ah, well, he's only 12.5% of the payroll. | The Thrill

Still scratching my head over that signing. Hell, I'd take Turnbow back as the closer over Gas Can Gagne. :-(

If you ever get the chance to enjoy the roof tops, do it. It was awesome. We were on this building.

Just before the game started, the wind shifted from blowing in to blowing out. It was a really warm wind and felt weird.

First pitch:

Great game, even if the wrong team won. |
