I'm not sure if this belongs in the site bashing forum, since I'm still torn on the issue, but I can't think of a better place for it.
I like the idea of Hatter X's Timeline column. I like it a LOT. "What If?" was always one of my favorite Marvel comics, and Hatter's got the same vibe in his column. But instead of getting "What If...Dark Phoenix had lived?", we get "What If...Bret screwed Vince and everything stayed the same?" Can anyone see what I'm getting at here? In this kind of story, you have the ability to change the world as we know it, and make it something entirely foreign, but at the same time entirely cool. Like the Punisher being posessed by Venom's costume, and making guns, wings and camoflague with it. Like Spider-Man joining the Fantastic Five. Like Thor having to take over Asgard and kicking Loki's sorry ass. All the Marvel stories have this grand sense of "anything can happen now, anyone can die, we don't have continuity to worry about!" Hatter's column always starts with that, but mostly they end with things being the status quo. It's almost like he gets bored in the middle of writing them. The most glaring examples of this are the Magnum TA and Bret Hart stories. Both start off with an incredibly earth-shattering event (or the lack of one), but they end up with everything being the same as it is now. The Raven story had a similar thign going on...I mean, he didn't even try changing the WM14 card. I think he needs to realize that these are HIS stories, and these are HIS characters to do with as he pleases. Once that happens, this column will become a must-read for a LOT of people, I'd imagine. Also, hooking up with a really good illustrator for a couple of images each column would kick ass. I really wanted to see what Raven would look like as Kane.

Yeah, it is pretty odd about the ECW thing. I mean, if Heyman OWNED the NWA, wouldn't it be counterproductive for him to throw down the title and change the name? I mean, the NWA still is a pretty viable brand...
I think the 'realism' of the WM14 card adds to the story. I noticed in other stories too that he keeps the history as real as possible except the change that he is talking about..At one point some things change, but certain 'historic events' stay the same..
If those events are changed as well the focus wouldnt be on the subject anymore...

Bullshit. The people who are paying for it are going to pay for it until they become the casual fans that would rather watch it in the bar. The fans who still go to the bars to watch wrestling ppv's are the ones that the WWE needs back.
