...I currently work in a Blockbuster store that is getting a Gamerush installation. Basically, part of the store will be sectioned off and will trade, sell, buy, rent games exclusively.

The reason I'm posting here is the absolutely insane trade-in deal that we are going to be running. Trade-in ANY game (SNES or Genesis through current...excluding fringe systems and Saturn), get a brand-new game for 29.99 or less. No cover box or instructions needed, just has to play, not be a demo disc, and not have NOT FOR RESALE written on it. You better believe I'll be loading up my copies of SNES Ultraman and Sega Genesis Sonic Pinball for $40 off Halo 2 and Fable. Just thought I'd pass on the info for other wallet-conscious gamers.

Damn it sucks I am in Japan (Blockbusters went bankrupt here a few years ago). Because all the games I want are American! That is good deal. I have a boatload of crap I would unload on Blockbusters for GTA San Andreas, Halo 2 etc.. I have Bubsy 3D! Did you hear me? I have BUBSY 3D!

D'oh! And just last week I traded off a bunch of stuff I don't play anymore. If only...

Hmmm, I wonder if all Game Rush stores are gonna do that. Because the Blockbuster at which I work is gonna get one. But I haven't heard a damn thing about the implications, yet.

Not that I wouldn't take advantage of this, but it seems like an awful idea for Blockbuster. Say the cheapest games for ps2 and xbox are budget titles, greatest hits, whatever. Usually 19.99 at every store you can find them and they are new. So Blockbuster will give me a $20 credit on a used game that only sells for $20 new. What do they sell the used game for? It's $20 bucks new everywhere else. And I don't think they are going to be getting any great deals on the Halo's and GTA's that Microsoft and Sony know will sell for $50 bucks on release. Why would they want to give Blockbuster a special deal? And this isn't even considering Genesis and SNES games, which are worth even less. I know you want to get customers coming in the store, but this seems like an exercise in bad business.

What I think they are doing is showing that they are able to compete and even beat anything offered by EB and Gamestop. Why? Because the rental side is backing them up. While we will get plenty of chaff games on this deal, I'm assuming it's only temporary, and enough people will bring in easily resellable games to make it worth our while. We will also offer up to $35 in credit for new trade-in games (Chronicles of Riddick, etc...), which is about 10 more than you'd ever get at EB or Gamestop. We have a website up with the deal and a few trade-in prices, but little else...

Ok...after this, no more Blockbuster plugs, they don't pay me enough to shill for them off the clock :).

So I can take in like Madden 03/04 and still get this offer? I really have no use for 03, and 04 is going to be quickly outdated.

Damn. There goes my shot to get rid of these Saturn games that haven't moved since 1998.

Unfortunately, this deal ends in two weeks...there go my plans for Halo and Fable...still if you wanted Riddick, Full Spectrum, or Driv3r...

It's just as well. I can't imagine a scenario in which Blockbuster could actually make money off of that thing. OK, so I could trade, say, Mega Man X4 for SNES, and get $20 off Driv3r... and Blockbuster's gonna sell the Super Nintendo game for, what, $2 max?

This is one of the (many, many) times when I've decided that the people I work for have simply gone insane.

It's smart business Eke. This is how Walmart and other mega-corps operate. They will do anything, even take a loss, to get customer loyalty and market share.

People will do what you said and then the higher-ups will hope they stay on board as weekly renters.
