I'm probably the only human on earth that marks out for the NBA draft more than the NFL draft. If you were GM of the Rockets and had the number one pick, what would you do? What do you want to see your favorite team do on draft day?

I have to think about it over night, but I think if I'm Houston I would seriously shop around the top pick. Teams who are trying to best the Lakers may be roped into taking Yao (which I think would be a mistake), and you could probably get a solid player and maybe a draft pick or two for him. I know several teams are trying to trade so they can get Williams, so there should be leverage there.

As for my Charl... um, New Orleans Hornets, they desperately need a someone who can create and score so Baron Davis can do what he needs to do. Who knows what is up with MIA Mashburn, and I don't have much faith that he is ever going to be the man we need. I would love to get Dunleavy or Butler, but that is out of the question for the 17th draft pick. There is a fair chance that someone like Kareem Rush will still be available. Although I am not a huge fan of his now, I think he has loads of potential.

I may change my mind by the morning.

If I were the Rockets, I'd trade down to about #5 or 6 and get Chris Wilcox. That would make Steve Francis happy -- he all but said at the draft that he wanted his fellow Maryland alum -- and the team can use a power forward too. Wilcox PF, Griffin SF, Mobley SG, Francis PG is a team that can win without a great center.

They won't do that though... they'll take Yao.

I'd take Yao...there's just something about a 7'5" guy that if you pass and he becomes a superstar, you're the biggest idiot ever. But if you take the 7'5" guy and he flops...well, Shawn Bradley is still in the NBA, right?

I'd take Yao also. I don't think you're going to get very far in the Western Conference with Kelvin Cato as your center, so might as well try a big man who seems to have a lot of upside.

Manute Bol and Shawn Bradley. They were going to redefine the game. Yao is going to get beat up as a rookie. I can see Shaq and Divac licking their chops as we speak.

The media in Philly has settled on the Sixers trading the 16th pick in the draft. A lot of draftees were in town last week and Larry Brown was on vacation. That should be pretty telling right there. The consensus is that the pick is going to Golden State for Jamison. There are also rumors swirling about Snow and Mutumbo leaving via trades.

I think the Jamison trade will be a good one for the Sixers. The key to the Sixers success has been their transition game. When Ratliff was with the team he was the trailer on the fast break and picked up a lot of garbage points off missed layups. This season they missed the ability to quickly transition from defense to offense and run the break.

The Jamison trade will solidify the 1-3 positions and we will only need to address the low post position which should happen through a trade of Mutumbo. It won't get us back to the finals but will take us a step closer.

People are taking about it a lot, I mean A LOT. The trade seems to favor the Sixers but with Odom's off court problems it would be an even deal.

Oh, if the trade did happen the Sixers would start Speedy Claxton at PG.

Trades checked on realgm.com:

1. Eric Snow for Lamar Odom - accepted

2. Mutombo(Philly)/Pippen(Portland)/Dampier(GS) - accepted.

3. Jamison for the 16th pick - accepted

Take your choice or the Sixers could choose to do all 3. Interesting lineup if they did add Odom, Jamison, and Dampier.

Also accepted:

Larry Hughes(GS) for the 16th pick.

Marcus Camby and Charlie Ward for Mutumbo.

Austin Croshere(Ind.) for the 16th pick.

Maybe getting Odom back on the East Coast will do him some good, especially with an older, more discipline oriented coach. I think the trade for Jamison would be great for Philly. No one talks too much about him because of where he plays, but the kid has had some brilliant streaks in his brief career. If the Sixers can get Odom and Jamison, they will easily find themselves back in the hunt in the East.

Last night the big rumor was a possible sign and trade for Larry Hughes. Problem is the Sixers already have a #2 and Hughes is not a #3(we tried that once already) or a PG.

They also said that it is a definite that the Sixers will be dealing their pick for a veteran player.

I am of the opinion that Larry Brown has lost his mind over the past few years. As great a coach as he is/was the game has moved past him. For all of the talk about how he is great working with young players he has consistently traded his draft picks or young players. Not one of his draft picks has ever been developed under him.

How's Courtney Alexander strike ya? Really, I wonder what our Hornets were thinking. We need more depth up front, since our frontcourt isn't getting any younger. I'm guessing Magloire's gonna get more time, and this draft was top-heavy on forwards. I'm sure we coulda gotten one of the good ones, but hey, I'm not an executive there, what do I know.

As for Butler, good to see him going to Miami. They needed someone like him (a SF and a scorer who creates his own opportunities). Besides, when they showed highlights of him, one of the games was against my soon-to-be alma mater, Quinnipiac. (We're the team with the yellow jerseys... we were supposed to suck heroically, but made it to the NEC finals, where we lost a closer-than-it-had-any-right-to-be game to Central.)

Well, whoever here said Juan Dixon wouldn't go in the lottery was right, and I was wrong. I think Washington had a helluva draft.

Butler is a total steal IMO. I think either him or Williams will be the best rookie in the class. Teams get too slick, trying to prove their genius by picking guys who are backups in Italy, or who will only be good in five years, rather than guys who can come in right away.

The best thing about the draft is the live crowd. They're nuts. It's great.

I think the front office has spent a little too much time on Bourbon Street since moving to the Big Easy. I, too, am somewhat perplexed. We did need a backup at the backcourt positions, but I can't see Alexander being worth a 17th overall pick. I'm confident that any number of folks drafted below where we would have had a pick could have been at least as good as Alexander (Rush, for example), with higher potential. I guess Alexander comes cheaper and they may be trying to cut pennies to resign Baron next offseason.

I hope Alexander can do what we got him for. As a backup, he can be adequate. However, if Wesley or Davis go down, we are up the creek. I can't see him being an in-season replacement for either one of them.

Let's hope I'm wrong and keep our fingers crossed.

After the Knicks picked that Brazillan, they started to chant "Fire Layden." Scott Layden is the Knicks' General Manager.

Looks like the "most powerful man in the universe" is going to be the backup for Tony Parker in SA.

Really? I thought they were chanting "overrated" at that point. When they interviewed Layden, "Layden sucks" started up. Although he smartly dampened it to some extent by wearing an FDNY hat, it re-appeared later in the night. They also booed Pete Vecsey. Rockin'.

I live in Oregon and once again the JailBlazers fucked up in the draft. Just what they need. A pot smoker with bad knees. Hey, I guess I am wrong after all Bowie is remembered as the best ever and that Jordan guy never accomplished anything.
