Syracuse-UConn, 110-110, going to the SIXTH overtime.

You beat me to it. This is CRAZY. I can't believe they took away Devendorf's three that would've won it, and each team has four guys fouled out.

Big 12 Tournament has been pretty crazy too. First there was Singletary of Texas Tech scoring 29 straight of his teams points to help them make a great comeback against Texas A&M(who is PROBABLY still in, but that won't make it easier to sleep for them). Then 3 of the four top seeds(who get a first-round bye) lose. Hopefully Mizzou can win this tourney now and get a better seed. They should have the advantage with all of the rest of the teams having played one more game and their style of play should help too, as they are definitely deeper on the bench and the press should get to the more tired teams. But the way this has gone so far I wouldn't count on anything.

It was a good call, for a couple reasons. The clock was a little late in starting to begin with, and Devendorf had BARELY a fingertip still on the ball at :00.0.
It was a hell of a game, but man, when UConn lost Thabeet finally, and they hit the wall, they hit it HARD, that last OT was a blowout, compared to the other 5.
I don't know how much Syracuse will have left in the tank tonight, and maybe tomorrow, but they do have a history at the Garden. Remember McNamara basically carrying them to the tournament championship on sheer force of will in '06?

Exactly. Once Thabeet went out, it was more about who could outlast the other, and Syracuse had just enough left on the court because of Thabeet's absence. If there was any question that he's living up to his potential, this season should have answered it.

I lost count, but Paul Harris missed about 3842 shots from in the paint in the last three OTs. He'd be KiLLING himself if they hadn't pulled that out.

Less than 48 hours to go. Let's talk top seeds. (We can talk the bubble tomorrow night when the picture is a little bit clearer.)
I think regardless of what happens in the ACC tournament from here, North Carolina is clearly the #1 overall seed. It's impossible to justify Pittsburgh or Connecticut as #1 overall when neither won the Big East regular season title or the Big East tournament title, and even if Louisville ends up winning both, I can't justify them either due to the Tar Heels' lead in the loss column and the fact that the Cardinals played neither of the other Big East big dogs on the road.
The other three #1 seeds right now for me are Louisville (a slot they'll keep regardless of what happens tomorrow against Syracuse), Michigan State and Pittsburgh. I don't see the Big East getting 3 #1 seeds (it's a strong conference, but it's not that strong), and Connecticut takes the fall to the #2 line because of their 2 losses to Pittsburgh and Louisville's regular season title (and potential tournament one). Michigan State beats out Memphis because of the relative difficulty of their conferences (with the Big Ten being way up this year and the C-USA being its usual terrible self). Louisville has the edge on Michigan State for the #2 overall seed, while Pittsburgh ends up with the #4 overall seed no matter what happens. As far as assignment goes:
North Carolina: Greensboro -> Boston Louisville: Kansas City -> Memphis Michigan State: Dayton -> Indianapolis Pittsburgh: Philadelphia -> Glendale

As far as the number one seeds, I can maybe see Memphis sneaking in and taking one of those #1 seeds if Michigan State loses to Ohio State today. Otherwise, it's likely to set up in the manner Texas Kelly predicted.

And the bubble just got a little smaller with USC winning the Pac-10 tournament. Hopefully winning the Big 12 Tourney gets Mizzou a 2 seed, but I won't hold my breath. | kwik

They were up 38-30 at the half, and that was it. Louisville wins it 76-66. Should lock down a 1 seed for Louisville, I'd think, and you wonder what this run did for 'Cuse, as far as their seed line goes, 4 maybe?

The Bracket Matrix has Syracuse on the #4 line, kwik, and I think that's about right for them. Louisville certainly locked up a spot on the #1 line, and even with Michigan State losing, I still think they should be a #1 over Connecticut (because the Spartans at least have a regular season title to point to). After today, in order, my #1 line would go North Carolina, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Michigan State, with Connecticut heading the #2 line.

Can someone tell me why that is fair but UNC was allowed to play in the Charlotte (I think) regional last year? And if the answer to that question is that Charlotte is not Chapel Hill, I call B.S. because they might as well be one and the same for purposes of the tournament.

It's not as much to do with the loacation, but what school is designated as the "host" school for the regional. Since Memphis is the host school for that regional, they can't play in it. The host school for Charlotte last year was UNC-Charlotte, so it was OK for UNC to play there.

It's both. Teams are not allowed to play in the NCAA Tournament at any venue in which they played four or more games during the year, hence even if Memphis were not the host school in Memphis, they still couldn't play there.
And it only has to do with home court. Doesn't stop UNC and Duke going to Greensboro, Villanova playing in Philadelphia, etc. | | Pages: Prev 1 2
