Not true, maybe it has to have Magic, Bird and Jordan on it for it to be YOUR Dream Team. But personally I don't like all 3 and would rather see Wade, Lebron, 'Melo. Hell, my Dream Team could include BJ Armstrong, Udonis Haslem, Jack Haley, and Del Curry for all you know.
Maybe this is being discussed in the Olympics thread over in the "Random" folder, but YEESH ... Maybe now (if things continue as they are) perhaps the qualifying committee will take a hint and realize, hey maybe sending an All-Star team for international competition maybe ISN'T a smart move after all.

Just so you guys know: 75% of this crap [you read on the internet] is made up, either by the writer, or the wrestler the writer is getting the dirt from. Just so you know. -- Statement by "Tammy Sytch", from Hyatte's Dec. 29th column ... Lest we forget.
I really don't see why some people are so shocked by this. You can't win w/o range shooting and decent defense. I thought that the NBA Finals proved this.
Also, let's not forget that this is a team of 2nd and 3rd choices in the first place. When Allen Iverson is the oldest guy on the team (and arguably the best range shooter) - you've got some issues.
Basically though, he confined himself to what the current team had to work with. He didn't consider people who didn't want to play for whatever reasons. I believe he's also since taken Amare off the team and added Carmelo Anthony.
I like that team the Sports Guy made too. And I actually wondered how come none of the World Champion Pistons were inclueded. I think just sending them alone would be better than this team. Rip and Tayshaun are both good choices. I wouldn't mind having either Wallace on the team too.
The main problem with the US team is that they don't have any pass-first point guard to lead them. Iverson and Marbury are shooting guards in point guards bodies. The Sports Guy's team doesn't solve this problem. I'd even take a Chauncy Billups or an Eric Snow at this point. Since Labron James is more of a point-foward, I'd play him more and let him lead.

Rip and Big Ben were offered spots, but they turned them down.

That just goes back to the problem with the NBA as a whole. There aren't many pass-first points in the league, and Wade's probably as close to one as there is in the league. Kirk Hinrich would also be a guy I wouldn't mind seeing on future Olympic teams, provided he learns to hit some free throws.
And I believe Hamilton only turned down the spot because he was the 47th choice, or something like that.
Why would anyone turn down a shot at the Olympics? The actual title of the event aside, Focus on the thought of representing your country! You win, your country wins, your flag is raised and your anthem is played. What greater motivation is there?
I hate the fact that millionaires would rather sit at home, buying cars and doing episodes of "Cribs", rather than spending a few months and playing for their country. International sporting events are the rare time (tragedy being the other) that Americans forget difference, and come together.
While I am ranting, Micheal Jordan is an ass. Wanna know why Christian Leightner was on the first Dream Team, because of Jordan. Thomas was supposed to be there, but because Jordan disliked Detroit's Bad Boys so much he was going to back out if any of them were chosen.

TYPICAL NBA PLAYER'S CAREER GOALS: 1. NBA Championship 2. NBA Championship 3. NBA Championship 4. NBA Championship 5. NBA Championship 6. Olympic Gold Medal
That's the problem with sending NBA players, they value the title more than the gold medal. Do I agree with that logic? Not particularly. Do I understand it? Pretty much. That's why they shouldn't send Major League players for the baseball, either.

'92 DREAM TEAM - MJ + Isiah = NOT REALLY A "DREAM TEAM"

The Dream Team concept should have been a one-time thing. There will never be another collection of players like the 92 Olympic team. Now we just have stars and individuals who don't know or care about a team concept. I'm all for either giving the Olympics back to the college hoops players or being smart about it and picking an NBA "team" of players - players that will actually get dirty and down on the court - that will give themselves up for a charge or a loose ball
I hate to sound unpatriotic but I hope this year's team lose every one of their remaining games
Folk singers are always liberal pansies, but not me.....I sing for my fellow conservatives...care to hear "Shoot the Hippie out of the Redwood Tree" ?
Apparently it wasn't just Jordan....Magic and Bird also voiced their disagreement with Thomas getting a spot. Maybe the problem is that Isiah is just a jerk.
I've never heard this story at all before, but I guess it would make sense that Bird wouldnt want Isiah on the team, but I cant imagine Magic agreeing with that too.
On a side note, I'd be curious to see the WHOLE list of guys that turned the Olympics down before they ended up with this team.

Accepted but backed out Reason Ray Allen Marriage Mike Bibby Security concerns Kobe Bryant Legal issues Jason Kidd Knee surgery Karl Malone Knee surgery, retirement? Tracy McGrady Security concerns Jermaine O'Neal Injury, rest
Refused invitations Reason Elton Brand Injury Vince Carter Marriage Kevin Garnett Marriage, security concerns Richard Hamilton Security, rest Kenyon Martin Free agency Shaquille O'Neal Rest Ben Wallace Security, rest
This team would be SO MUCH BETTER with Mike "Shaq was right about that whole 'Queens' thing" Bibby instead of Starbury. "Security Concerns". Give me a break.
Also, Ray Allen, VC, and KG are WHIPPED.

I don't see why they don't just take undrafted college players and make an international team out of them. There are many good ball players not in the NBA who had good college careers. Why not take them, form a team, and let them play in international competitions. Kind of a best of the undrafted college players. If they play with each other on a desginated international team, maybe they can better adapt to the international style.
Lisa: Poor predicatble Bart, always picks rock Bart: Good ole rock, nothing beats that
I feel the US team is a reflection of what is wrong with the NBA today.
I grew up a Laker's fan. Living on the East coast I was a loner in my school, loving the Lakers over Boston. Magic, Kareem, and Green they passed the ball.
Not to say the other teams did not pass the ball, but in the 80s it was about triple doubles, not scores over thirty. The problem today is in high school they dream of skipping college to go the NBA, and make millions. How do you get noticed, not by passing the ball, but shooting it, dunking it, making yourself look good.
The old days (1980s and before) basketball and sports in general were looked at for getting a higher education, looking towards life after sports. Today, they seem more focused on today not tomorrow, and it shows in the game they play.
Immature play has hurt the game, that is why I have not watched a game of basketball since Magic Johnson retired, for the last time.
Today's "Dream Team" is not only a reflection on today's NBA, but on the dreams of parents for their children.

Thread ahead: Zach Randolph possibly headed to Milwaukee Next thread: Team USA ripping off Ric Flair? Previous thread: Just one reason why I prefer college hoops to about any other sport
Unless the T'Wolves are crazy enough to think Randolph can become a 20 per game scorer, and they are the team that gave Darko 4 years, this trade doesn't do much for them. Also, how protected is the pick that they would be giving up?
