| #1 Posted on 11.1.02 1924.59 | Does anyone know if there is a way to get VHS copies of old TV shows from WWF or NWA archives. Has either company ever sold anything like this? I know, not much of a demand for them, but let's face it, everyone here likes a bit of wrestling nostalgia every now and then.
Does anyone personally have tapes of NWA stuff that they could copy for me? (Is this illegal?)

I don't know of any tapes of shows, except for the WWF's recent Best of RAW tapes/DVD's, and an older Best of RAW that you might be able to find at your local video store.
As far as legality of tape trading, I don't think it's exactly 115% kosher, but WCW (or should I just say Vince) would go broke going after everyone.

| #3 Posted on 11.1.02 2330.56 | Instant Rating: 4.05 | tape trading is legal
tape SELLING is legal (it's my property, i can re-sell it) the congress of the USA has a ruling on that, it's the First Sale Doctrine, which basically says that a buyer can do what they want with a tape (re-sell or rent it out), it's basically what kept the hollywood studios from shutting down video stores, because they were upset that stores were buying tapes, renting them, making a killing and not seeing a penny...
that's why new releases are "Priced to rent" on VHS
my short term memory is fuzzy, but like when Coyote Ugly came out on VHS, the MSRP was $108.15 my head manager (i'm an the asst manager of a video store) got a dealer discount and only paid $67.16 for 8 copies...they jack up the price so the studio can see a cut of the rental profits...
dvd's on the other hand will hopefully stay at sell through prices ($30 and under)
taking raw/smackdown/ppv clips and mass producing them and selling them is illegal (you're violating the WWF's distrabution rights)
the mass production part is the key...if i make a best of hardys tape, and sell it, no problem...if i make 10000 of them and start selling them, then i'll get in trouble...
why is that? someone making ONE best of hardys tape and selling it is a small fry...yeah, the WWF could try to get you on a copyright violation, but they'd rather want the 10000 copy guy...
