I've been trying to find this for a while...

When I was a kid, I used to get all the old "Apter Mags" (PWI, etc.) and my favorite feature was this scientific ranking system, where they (according to them) put a list of the top mwrestlers of the time into a computer and then the computer would score them in 10 categories. The 20 highest scores (or was it 10?) made the list. The categories included strength, speed, stamina, conditioning, ability to absorb punishment, and conditioning (there were others, but I cant remember them all.

I used to think it was in PWI, but I cant find anything relating to PWI and this feature. Maybe it was in inside wrestling, i dont know. I've had no luck yet... anyone remember this feature, and what magazine it may have been in?

I'm pretty sure it was PWI, as I remember the rankings by promotion and then top overall singles and tag teams. If it's the one that listed the wrestler's weight and hometown and sometimes real name (I remember Curt Hennig being listed as Curt Hennig in the WWF\E list and not as Mr. Perfect), it was PWI.

I can't remember all the categories but intangibles seems to have been one or something of the like. There are probably a few issues lingering around my parent's house. And I'm sure the old lots are pretty cheap on eBay. Blast from the past!

I remember that, but this was a special feature that only came out once a year. the wrestlers were scored on a scale of one to ten on ten categories... I used to love the ranking is the back pages though. Simmilar to the Curt Hennig thing, they always listed Ultimate Warrior as hailing from Queens, NY as opposed to Parts Unknown.

I thought that Warrior was listed as being from Queens (Hellwig's actual birthplace, I believe) back when he was known as the Dingo Warrior but that he was always touted as being from Parts Unknown once he became the Ultimate Warrior? Or maybe that was just by the wrestling orgs themselves? Or maybe I just never paid attention to "Queens, NY" way back then because, to a very-not-well-traveled elementary-school-aged wrestling fan, the only hometowns that stand out are Parts Unknown, Death Valley, and Canada?

I think that was "wrestling superstars." i believe that was a quarterly apter map.

I will dig around and see if I can find my issues.

Yeah, it was one of those. I remember the edition that listed Ric Flair #1 overall in its top-20. I think the year before that, it was Bruiser Brody who ranked #1.

Those mags (can't recall the brand name, but "Superstars" might be it) were always my favorite because they'd feature a "Superstar Dream Match" between a pair of NWA/WWF headliners, and it was basically a well-written (for its genre) short story of the buildup, angles & payoff of a mega-fight that could NEVER happen in REAL life.

I had the "Dream Match" editions for Flair vs. Warrior (Warrior won by CO when Hogan distracted Flair), Hawk vs. Animal (Hawk won the NWA title and battled Animal to a stalemate), Lugar vs. Hogan (I don't remember who won, but I remember Lugar wore a policeman's uniform to sneak into a press conference that announced a fight between Hogan & Mike Tyson), and a Team Challenge between the NWA and WWF on a remote island (NWA won when Flair won the final sprint against Hogan).

Been YEARS since I've looked through any of those mags, but I remember 'em cold, man. No idea why. Guess they really resonated with me when I was a teenage fanboy in the pre-Internet wilderness...

Not to hijack the thread, but which wrestling magazine was it that once had a cover image featuring Kamala holding Hogan's head on the end of a spear?

Oh man, I loved those. Hogan, Flair, and Martel going to a draw in a round-robin of world champions. The Road Warriors killifying Demolition forever. Elizabeth bravely vanquishing Scary Sherri even after having her Achilles tendon slashed. Madonna hosting an inter-promotional battle royal in a multi-level moving ring.

I remember another article in one of those same magazines where it ranked a bunch of dudes' big splashes using a mathematical formula that included weight, speed, and skin tautness. Fantastic.

Yay!

I had looked it up on the internet ages ago, but couldn't find the file ... and now that I see the cover again, it was a lot more gruesome-looking in my memory (of course, I was just ten years old at the time).

Yeah, the WWF is trying to MAKE us want to see her. No one can have that many "accidents". Hell Jackie didn't even have that many. But those I could appreciate a little better. Especially that bikini contest with Sable. Oh My God
