| #1 Posted on 15.1.09 1504.55 | Instant Rating: 6.29 | I was on SI.com reading some articles in the MMA section and I saw a link to this article from the SI Vault on the sidebar. I figured at least a few people here would be interested in reading it. This was before I was aware of wrestling (or much else, I was barely 1 yr old!), so it's a bit surreal to read.

Around the same time, there was a LIFE Magazine article about pro wrestling that I desperately wanted because it had a cool picture of Paul Orndorff inside (he was lifting a bench with a bunch of kids on it). | hayden

Bashing Hulk's wrestling skill is a decades-old tradition.

In his book, I remember Hogan saying that a lot of fans saved that SI issue, and he still signs those covers even today.

Some of the faux-slang writing was kind of hokey though... the continued "maahhvelous" Billy Crystal catchphrase, really?

Here we are twenty years later, and sports writers still make the laziest possible mainstream references to popular culture that embarrassingly date themelves as soon as they're written, let alone in hindsight.
