I'm sure this is the third Smackdown related thread, but it's from a different point of view. As I was watching the tape of the ring collapse, I felt that it was cool, of course. But at the same time I thought, okay, it broke. The show as a whole I think had a bit more talking than wrestling, and honestly I wasn't in the mood for talking last night. I wasn't too pleased with the end of Team Angle (Can't these WWE people keep teams together for at least A YEAR?!), just because it seemed too obvious to me. Team Benoit just doesn't have the same ring to it. The International Pit was okay, if you like your stereotypes (there's more to japanese cuisine than sushi, don't they watch Iron Chef?). The Arm wrestling was okay, but then again, I usually only see more ham at Christmas dinner. By the way, surprisingly, I'm not referring to Steph when I say "ham", which must be a first. Way to keep it real, girl. John Cena was tight, Funaki was not. Fun squash. Benoit and Rhyno breaking up? Good lord, I'm crying an ocean.
Obviously, I just wasn't into Smackdown like I thought it would be. Maybe its because joshi's given me a new way to look at things, or maybe it's just because that Foley/Helmsley thing got my blood flowing again, and anything else is just there. You guys be the judge, whether you agree with me or not.
I'm fairly sure it's the same crew. At the very least, the people on top of the shows are the same (Vince/Steph/J.R.). I don't think the WWE cares about the 'competing brands' as much as they'd like us to think that they did (or else they'd mention it once every few months).
It's like how the Rey/Matt match last week wasn't a "top this" to RAW's people either, it was just a good match.

it was an interesting non finish to the match. I agree, it was sort of 'wasted' in a non ppv setting, but it is nice to be surprised once in a while for free.

If it happened on a PPV, people would freak out about getting a non-finish.

It's probably going to be on WWE.com today or tomorrow.

Actually, there are a few really good places on International Drive in Orlando that aren't bad. And there's this one place on Orange drive by the huge mall that has like 50 different egg rolls to choose from.

I thought the imploding ring was great! I've never seen an entire ring collapse before -- & not just the ropes/ringposts, but the supports on one side besides. It was excellent! They rigged it beautifully. The 2-stage collapse (first the ropes, then the floor supports) looked really good. (Maybe they had the Disney guys drop by & provide some design consultation -- never know.) It's a cool thing to go in Brock's legacy file. It generated the biggest/longest "Holy shit" chant I've ever heard. I loved it.

Ofcourse it wouldn't be anything like Piper is a jerk anyways so why the fuck would he wanna give you a representation of Japanese cuisine.. The food was there to make fun of Eddie and Tajiri, Piper style.
I have to both agree and disagree with the original poster, the RingMistress. I thought for the most part all the interviews/skits/etc were all pretty good. However, at the same time the wrestling was very lacking.
I enjoyed the Team Angle breakup. Like CRZ said the tag team is still together though, so they might very well still be around for a year. But to me the interview showed that Benjamin is not too bad on the mic and Haas is actually very good. So I think it did some good for them, and if Lesnar helps out his pal Kurt against the two and they wrestle some tag team matches. Then you've a feud that could produce great matches, great interview, and elevate Team Angle.
Piper's Pit wasn't bad, but maybe it's just because i'm an Eddie mark. Any time he opens his mouth it's a good segment. Tajiri trading the belt for sushi was pretty lame but the mist thing atleast showed us that Tajiri is getting into the lie, cheat, steal character. Although O'Haire showed tonight that he's much much better at taped promos then he is live (actually Smackdown is taped too but you know what I mean, they probably can take a bunch of takes on a promo and can't for a show)
Rhyno/Benoit was ok. I don't mind them breaking up either, I'm not too crazy about the team even though I'm big fans of both. The only segment I thought sucked was Hogan/Vince as usual.
But it's true the in ring action side was lacking. Rey/Matt was good again and that's about all.
Wow, I have to be in a pretty pissy mood if I got a response like this. Well, I've cooled down a bit and I will admit that I was a bit harsh. The ring thing was kewl, and big ups to the big bro for taping that. I guess I really wasn't in the mood for...talking. I could stand RAW this week because that revived a feud I enjoyed. Last night, the weather was awful, the house was like a sauna, I got bugged by phone calls, and by the time everything calmed down I just wasn't in the mood for hearing people talk. Still, I was too quick to dub Team Angle "over". I did enjoy Shelton and Charlie. That was the best they sounded so far.
But, all the Mr America stuff got me steamed. I could point out the logic gaps in that arm wrestling contest, but I'm trying to LOWER my high blood pressure (joke). I don't know what to think of Benoit and Rhyno, though. Like I said, I appreciate Steph's newer, cooler persona, but it wouldn't hurt to bring back some of the estrogen in her voice. Cena rules, no Spanky, and I'd love to know where Shaniqua-san shops. So, after some anger management, Smackdown wasn't as "eh" as I originally presumed. I now upgrade it to a "good" Still, I got the weak spot for Foley-Helmsley, so....

I went ape shit when the ring broke. I was told by one of my buddies not to read the spoilers this week because of it. I thought it was AWESOME!! One of the best things I've seen out of the WWF since the Edge/Eddie no DQ match on Smackdown from... RIGHT HERE... in San Diego.

I think we all feel the same way about Foley being back. It's like he's from an era when wrestling "suckiness" quotient wasn't over 78% on a weekly basis, so when we see him back, it just makes everything he's *not* involved with remind us "oh yeah, this is how far they've fallen..."

The PPV was a couple weeks ago. Maybe they came up with the collapsing ring after the fact. Plus, it wouldn't really have gone along with the fork lift ending to the stretcher match. Brock would have to have laid there for a while to sell the collapse, then still have the strength to get show on the stretcher.
If they did have the idea for this back at the PPV, then I agree with the decision to save it for free TV. To save it for a match they built up the week before, too. And like someone else mentioned in another thread, it could build up to Angle / Show / Lesnar, which keeps Angle / Lesnar one-on-one fresh.
Still, it was on free TV. It's fucking great that they give us a "holy shit" moment like that on a regular show. It gets the show over.
Thread ahead: Raven would be a better NWA World Champion Next thread: Team Angle angle... Previous thread: do you think sharmell sullivan who was paisley in the wcw should be in the WWE
Wrestlemania 3 was my favorite, just because of Steamboat and Savage. Plus there was the novelty factor of holding it at three different sites. I also have a soft spot for Vengeance in San Diego, when the WWF unified the WCW and WWF belts.
