From what I remember from my highschool American history class (won of the more difficult highschool classee I ever took). Dewey was such a heavy favorite they just assumed he was going to win that the Chicago Tribune printed the story before the offical results were brought in.

First off, let me say that I was SO ready to rip what's left of my hair out after the Sox's first loss. Not because they lost, and not because the bullpen had a horrible outing. It's because all of White Sox nation was ready to give up after game one.
