Let us assume for a moment that no trades will be made. After all, Vince and Flair are about as likely to cooperate with each other as George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden. If no trades do in fact take place, who do you think actually got the better roster?

My belief right now is that Mr. McMahon did exactly what he said he'd do-- he drafted better than Flair. Vince ended up getting, among others, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, The Rock and Hollywood Hogan. Then, mostly by virtue of the lottery, he got most of the cruiserweight division. Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri, Billy Kidman, The Hurricane, Christian. Still, a few free-agent signings must be done for SmackDown's cruiserweight division to be as good as it can be.

Flair got The Undertaker, the nWo, Kane, RVD, Booker T-- and actually acquired both the Intercontinental and European Titles. He also ended up with all of Team Extreme (much to my dismay-- why pick Lita over either of The Hardyz or DDP?)

In terms of wrestling quality and star quality, it seems that SmackDown won out. Benoit, Jericho, Angle and Storm do all the technical wrestling, while The Rock and Hogan draw all the fans. And everybody will be happy.

Disappointments:

--I'm disappointed that Booker T and Chris Benoit won't be winding up on the same show. Those two are dynamite in the ring together as opponents.

--They broke up Booker T and Test, who had a great run together as tag-team champions. Damn it all. Now Test will be that much more annoying than he already is.

--They broke up, of all teams, the Dudleyz???? Why, for the love of Lou Thesz? I seriously don't see either of those two men as future singles stars. They're much better as a tag-team. Yet, could they still tag-team together on PPVs and end up winning the tag-team title? What would happen then?

--Of all the females in the WWF, only Torrie and Stacey remained on SmackDown, while everyone else went to RAW. What, then, is the point of having the Women's Champion on both shows, while the Tag Team Champions remain on only one?

--And speaking of which-- what do the Hardyz do, now that they're ineligible to win the Tag Team Title (except on PPVs?) Look for a title switch here soon, perhaps. Why didn't they allow the Tag Team Champions on both shows? It'd make more sense than the Women's Champion.

I don't know if either of them got the "better" draft. I think tonight was a pretty good indication that Flair's stable will be a training ground of sorts for new main eventers, i.e. Kane. We'll probably see the Big Show return to prominence as well, likely in fending off the nWo. Austin/Kane/Show would be a viable counterpoint to the "poison of the WWF," though I don't see them stacking all that star power on one team. Maybe Spike Dudley and the Big Show.

I was really hoping they'd split the Hardyz, as everyone and their mother thinks the act is getting stale, but they didn't. Go figure. I'll settle for Jeff not wearing a thong on his head, though.

Splitting the APA and Dudz was interesting. After an aborted singles run or two, we'll probably find D-Von teaming with Bradshaw, and Faarooq teaming with Bubba Ray. Instead of "wazzup?" we'll get "damn!"

i gotta say vince won as it stands right now. he's got a loaded show and for all the talk we've heard about giving up and comers more tv time, it looks like there is plenty of room to get lost in the shuffle on smackdown.

I think Vince chose better, but barring trades and of course Austin being sent to Raw, anything can happen

I think you hit the nail on the head in that other thread, FAB... Smackdown needs more star-power cause it has stiffer competition.

I agree that the splitting the Dudz was odd, but after their skit on Heat I think it was inevitable. Also we've never really seen either of them with a singles run, so I think we should hold off judgement.

Splitting up the APA is not as bad as it seems at first glance. Faarooq is a former WCW champion, and Bradshaw showed a lot of potential as a singles competitor.

Looks like Vince got the cruiserweights and Flair got the Women. On the one hand I have a bad feeling about Vince "WBF" McMahon in charge of the cruisers... but I'm glad they seperated the talented women (Lita, Trish, Ivory, Molly, and Jaqui) from the eye candy (Stacy and Torrie,) which means we won't have to see Stacy and Torrie in real matches, and we won't have to watch the good wrestlers in "bra and panties" matches.

Of course Flair's gonna get Austin. Even if they're competing in kayfabe, it's real life ratings suicide to put Austin and Rocky on the same show and leave Raw with no real main eventers.

Actually, Vince got Ivory, Stacy and Torrie. So while Raw is stacked with women wrestlers, Smackdown has Ivory babysitting the eye candy girls.

(much to my dismay-- why pick Lita over either of The Hardyz or DDP?)

Or Molly, or Lance, or Kanyon or Test, or Hurricane, or Kidman, or Tajiri, or Bradshaw, or Trish, or Ivory. I guess you get the point. The only way i would choose Lita is if her and Spike were the last two choices.

Personally I liked the Dudleys split, people talk about the Hardyz being stale but the Dudleys have been stale for way longer. I've been wanting a Dudleys split for a long time now. Personally i thought they should've split all the tag teams except Chuck and Billy and that way they would have to make new tag teams. And Since Chuck and Billy are on Smackdown there are PLENTY of good wrestlers (Storm, Hurricane, Tajiri, Kidman, Edge, Benoit, Jericho, D-Von, Snow, DDP, Christian, Faarooq, Taz, Val, Saturn) who they can try and form good teams from.

Too bad they didn't split up Albert and Scotty.

My first impression was that Raw was heel top heavy. Obviously they will get Stone Cold, but who else will they have as top faces. Will Rob Van Dam be pushed to prominence? Will Lesnar get a big push right away? Will Booker turn face? Will someone like D-Lo or Raven get atleast a high mid card push?

If they are going to turn Raw into Undertaker and nWo vs. Kane/Big Show then I guess I can finally start watching Angel on Monday nights.

The sad thing is that the draft is somewhat in order of who they want us to cheer, instead of who we actually cheer, hence the far fall of Tazz and others. Then again, Benoit went high...so, I could be wrong.

thanks for that, yun!

i have a gut feeling scotty and albert won't be a tag team much longer (or ever again). scotty's a perfect cruiserweight. albert's a solid worker with potential if they put the effort into him.

i will love it when they finally rid him of that "hip hop hippo" nickname. there isn't jack shit that's hip hop about that man. or scotty. at least booker represents one of the elements!

I say Smackdown won this draft hands down, of course barring any trades or other swerves. How can anybody bet against a lineup that has Rock, Angle, Benoit, Hogan, Jericho, and Edge? The only drawback is that Chuck and Billy now have no competition for the tag titles.

Raw took a plethora of midcard to main event heels with Taker, the NWO, Brock Lesnar, Booker T, Buh Buh Ray Dudley (??), and William Regal. RVD, Big Show, and Kane are the only upper tier faces drafted. And WTF was that about drafting Lita at #10 with Tajiri (the CW champion no less!) still on the board?

From the looks of things, Austin will have to end up on Raw to balance things out, but even that won't be enough for me to find something else to do on Monday nights if this lineup holds. Smackdown looks to be the better show on paper right now.

Why does everyone say "barring any trades or swerves" when WE ALREADY KNOW there are going to be trades?

Jeez, guys, don't expect the Dudleys to stay broken up...

Look for the Duds and the APA to be reunited in any multi-player deal to go down between Raw & Smackdown - they all make perfect filler

Sorry if my escape clause ruined your day, but I felt without it, it wouldn't be clear enough that I was speculating for the present and somebody who assumed that I didn't think trades would happen would dutifully state the obvious to me.

I'm very, very disappointed. Why would Flair draft all of the big, stiff lugs? I don't want to see Undertaker, Kane, Big Show, Regal or the nWo...and I DON'T GET SMACKDOWN!!! WAHHH!!!
This sucks. Rock, Hogan, Jericho and Benoit on the same side? How is that fair? I'm hoping Flair will trade Undertaker for Benoit because of the Horsemen connection. Maybe Vince will trade Angle as well, just so we can see Angle piss himself.

On the other hand, Raw looks to be a hard-hitting division. Proably most of the Heavyweight feudin' will go on there, along with the IC division. Man, I was hoping Raw would get the cruisers to balance out the slobberknockers, though.

Well no one won the draft, because...NO ONE DRAFTED CHAVO!! Goobers the lot of 'em!!

Outside of that, Raw got the short in of the stick talent wise (Star wise and wrestling wise.) If I was a total smart, I'd probably be calling for Vinces and the writers heads for "Sabotaging Raw" (Which I'm suprised hasn't happened yet, or I just missed it.) But they do have some upside with the guys we haven't seen in a while and new guys. Always have hope for D'Lo, Lensar's a beast, RVD's entertaining, and Austin will probably go Raw. Raven can cut promos when given time to develope and with Dreamer you have an insta-feud. Big Show is suprisingly over with the crowd and Kane is decent (atleast the crowd likes him.) If Bradshaw would lose a little middle he could be worthwhile.

And of course Perfect, is perfect!

Smackdown has the most power out of the gate, but with time and maybe trading Raw can be pretty decent.

I'll side with Quezzy and say I liked the idea of splitting the tag teams that were getting stale. And of course the look on Dreamers face when Buh Buh and D-von hugged was enough for me (Shaking his head like, Holy crap! Never thought I'd see that.)

Doesn't Smackdown average more viewers on a weekly basis than RAW ? Wouldn't that be the reason that Vince would overload one show over another ?

While a lot of people are complaining that Raw doesn't have enough big names, we have forgotten about one: Triple H. And I don't mean his floating between shows while champion. I'm talking post title loss. He has to "sign" with one of the two groups after he drops the the title, and he would help make the Raw roster look more impressive.

And as far as the rosters are concerned- I think they tried to keep Raw more casual fan oriented (big guys and the nWo) while Smackdown! will be more internet/pure wrestling fan oriented. Raw may look weak to us, but it probably looks pretty damn good to the folks flipping channels who like the big heavyweights and mark out for guys like Show, Kane, Taker, Nash.

I think if they wanted to keep Raw more casual fan oriented, they would have put the Rock and Hogan on Raw.
