This is by far the most embarrasing thing I can imagine from somebody who was once (arguably) the greatest entertainer in rock.

Well, the instrumental portion is pretty good. It wouldn't be half bad if he'd actually adapted the vocal part better, but he's still basically singing rock style at a different tempo.

When I was a kid, David Lee Roth was a hero of mine. Yes, I'm aware of how unbelievably sad that is, no need to pile on

The Strummin' with the Devil concept came from the record label and is apparently the latest in a line of such pop/rock-to-bluegrass records. And those cats can wail. Ironically, I grew up on a diet of Zeppelin, The Who, Hendrix, and Van Halen, courtesy my best friend's much older brother, and I hated the bluegrass that it seemed our rural radio station played 16 hours a day. These days I loves me some bluegrass from time to time and this album, to me, is likely to be just fine, thanks.

Dave actually appears to possibly have matured just a little bit. When I saw the link and the first comments I figured he went out there looking to give everyone a taste of 1985 with spinkicks and spread eagles and, really, too much Dave. In typical DLR fashion he didn't know who was going to be playing what and when, but he appeared as understated and professional as I ever imagined he could be. I'd almost say he seems normal enough that the rest of the band may consider a reunion, but I'm not sure I want that anymore. Besides, by all accounts, Eddie Van Halen is an utter mess.

Wow. I just wrote like 250 words on David Lee Roth on an Internet Message Board. I'll be in the attic having a swing if anyone needs me.

I like it! But then, I usually like projects like this - the Balanescu Quartet's reworking of Kraftwerk and Apocalyptica's first CD come to mind immediately, hell, even Pat Boone's heavy metal CD worked for me.

I also like that Dave can still hit them notes despite being so OLD. ;-)

Hey, thanks for the reminder! I heard this on the radio last week and was suitably impressed. I like me some quirky - an album of string interpretations of Tool songs comes to mind.

God help me I read that as an album of Sting interpretations of Tool.

Actually, I really kind of like it. Of course, I love bluegrass and have several other oddities like this one including the awe inspiring "Pickin' on Led Zeppelin" so I may not be the best one to fairly evaluate Diamond Dave's performance.

I really dug it. It didn't seem forced or trying to be all that camp. Which is all you can ask for really with a project like this.

Regardless of whether or not you liked this, unless you've been ignoring him since '87 I don't see how this could be even remotely considered David Lee Roth's most embarrassing moment.
