Well, I'm glad that these guys are finally getting out of the line of fire for awhile. I'm not sure how much more we can ask them to do over there. Hopefully the troops can start finding ways to go back to living normal lives.

Well, at least he kept one of his campaign promises, now he needs to keep the other which is Afghanistan. I am not sure what the point is anymore with Osama dead, but we are dealing with the Military Industrial Complex here. I guess the big reason has to do with Iraqi not wanting to give immunity to US Soldiers if they stay past this year. Its a pretty ugly pill to swallow, but at the end of the day its for the best.

It is good news and do I hope the soldiers can adjust, I know seeing it first hand with my friend, it gets a bit scary at times.

Obama never campaigned on pulling troops out of Afghanistan in 2008. It was always about pulling troops out of Iraq and refocusing the war effort in Afghanistan.

In his announcement he said they would also begin bringing troops home from Afghanistan. I don't think he'll alter the plan of having them there to some degree for a couple more years, but it certainly didn't sound like we're going to up the numbers.

I am a little confused with many Republicans and their concern. I believe this is essentially the plan that the Bush Administration agreed to and now they are upset. The only part that is really different is that since the Iraqi government wont grant them immunity, we won't leave trainers/advisers as I understand it.

The GOP would be upset if Obama brought World Peace. They would claim its not the United States' position to be peacemakers. Its Bush plan ramped up as it has been since Obama got into office. McCain wants to fight this war til the end of time and its one of the primary reasons he did not get elected. The other being 120 lbs of female redneck baggage. Its also stupid for the US to leave troops at the mercy of a pissed off Iraqi government. Obama is doing the right thing, but in a world of playing the "Grand Game". No one person in another party can be right about anything.

I saw an article that the Afghan President, is making waves about siding with Pakistani if the US decides to go to war with them. Its time for the US to get out of the Middle East. It probably wouldn't hurt the deficit either to get out early. Osama is dead, Bush is gone and Al Queda is splintered. There is no better time than now to get out of this situation. If I were Obama or any voter, I wouldn't trust any GOP Presidential candidate to get out of there by the 2014 deadline.

The *biggest* reason he lost was that the economy went to pot, and the populace blamed the Republicans. (I happen to think they were correct, and that the Republicans and GWB in particular deserved a lot of the blame, but they probably would have been blamed even if it was completely out of their control.) I agree that his Iraq policy and his Veep choice hurt him, and they might have cost him the election anyway, but with the way the economy went there wasn't anything he could have done.

Funny how Iran and North Korea acting up is getting attention now. Perhaps Bush knew what he was talking about when he brought up the Axis of Evil comment in 2002. Now, tackling all of these separately: Iraq: We're going in.
