The '92 general election really needs to have a book done on it, as that was a weird election. Perot's got the lead in the polls heading into the Democratic Convention with Clinton languishing in 3rd (I don't think Perot would have gotten to 270 even if everything broke right with him staying in the race, and there was no way he would have won if it was thrown into the House. Clinton could have finished 3rd and won with the Democrats holding both Houses), Perot drops out and Clinton gets the momentum boost of all time out of the Convention to vault to a lead. Then, the Republicans let Pat Buchanan ruin the Republican Convention to eliminate Bush getting momentum and knock Reagan's swan song out of prime time, Perot jumps back in, Bush gets within the margin of victory going into the last week, and then Iran-Contra indictments come out the Friday before the election, killing any Bush momentum and putting the election into Clinton's backpocket, with not enough time left for him to try to give away the lead again. Very fluid race, and an example of Clinton doing his best when he was desperate, and then not being able to handle prosperity. See his Presidency: When he was content, he fumbled, when his back was against the wall he came out fighting and went to basic survival instinct.

And Carter was barely president. Fighting with Pierce for worst president, ever. An incumbent president landslided and then 4 years later, the biggest landslide in all history against his VP. And CNN puts them on to analyze the election upcoming. Clearly, they know nothing.
Except a couple of you, you weren't old enough to know what a president was in 76. Seriously, whoever the Dems nominated were going to beat whoever the Republicans nominated after watergate. Maybe, if they had nominated Reagan in 76, he might have out up a fight. If the war continued to go bad, the same thing will be true in 2008. My money goes in Bond Funds that year.
One more thing: I was watching the Clinton News Network earlier this evening and Paula Zahn (that's who's on after Wolf Blitzer, right?) called Obama "Osama" a couple times, then caught herself and turned bright bright red. I was amused.

If Ford keeps Rockefeller as his VP on the ticket rather than replacing him with Dole perhaps he holds New York and wins the general election. As for worst President ever: James Buchanan retired that title long ago. Pierce was bad, but at least secession didn't occur on his watch. As for Mondale, not only does he have the worst electoral beating on his mantle, but he also fumbled away a seat in the Senate in '02 that the Democrats should have had in their back pocket after the Wellstone plane crash.

In '02, a lot of Mondale's loss had more to do with the behavior of others at the Wellstone Memorial which was broadcast all over local TV, where his memorial was basically turned into a political rally. Many people found that tasteless and were turned off by the Dems. Plus, Mondale had roughly one week (he decided rather late after Wellstone died to run) to "campaign".
Coleman also had a lot of support from his time as mayor of St. Paul and would have given Wellstone a fight, had there been a race between the two as planned. It wasn't an easy race for the Dems to win that year. | Gugs

Oh, good, the first troll of the 2008 cycle. Can we also have it be the last? Thanks!
