After considering outsiders such as Ken Whisenhunt, Bobby Petrino and Mike Martz, the Raiders went with one of their own and hired Art Shell as their new coach.

Shell will be introduced at 4:30 p.m ET Saturday as the Raiders' new coach. He replaces Norv Turner, who was fired after two seasons and went to the 49ers as offensive coordinator.

In hiring Shell, Raiders boss Al Davis was able to correct a move he said was a mistake more than a decade ago. Davis fired Shell after the 1994 season. Shell, who was 56-41 as the Raiders head coach from 1989 to 1994, will get a chance to right that wrong.

So does this mean that after Art Shell fails to turn around Oakland that Al Davis will try and correct that other mistake he made and bring back Mike Shannahan? Actually, I hope that Art Shell turns the team around. Would like to get back to seeing the Raiders play two good games against SD each season. It's always entertaining to see the Raiders fans come out at Jack Murphy Stadium when they're in town to play SD...

When you talk about the elite running backs in the NFL, you could make a case for every one of them as to who's the greatest of all time. But to say Emmitt doesn't belong in the 15 greatest of all time is ridiculous.
