Two pet peeves:

1) WWE takes a touching, genuine moment, handles it in a subtle but highly effective way, and then proceeds to hit you over the head with it until you just want to roll your eyes. "Please Sign Cedric" was a great start to his WWE career. Let's all move on now.

2) Speaking of Cedric, it drives me nuts how guys who (like Cedric) could probably get over & develop a great character with a little bit of freedom, have their interviews scripted to the degree where every ounce of natural charisma is just sucked out of them. Maybe the E thinks that's what NXT is for, but I would much rather NXT be for having a little freedom to screw up & develop a good character.

Anyway, the rundown:

Production tries to dampen "Joe, Joe, Joe" chants during his entrance to no avail. He comes out, reads Shinsuke's medical report (I google all the medical terms, they're real!), and threatens Regal with beating down the rest of the roster if he doesn't get the title back. Joe rules, and is back to being a straight-up heel.

Main event will be Please Sign Cedric vs. A"C"A.

Goddam, the Connor's Cure segments always make me cry.

Liv "poor woman's Carmela" Morgan & Asuka have a feud. Am I the only one who loves Asuka? And thinks "the Empress of Tomorrow" is a dope nickname? Liv could also benefit from a few non-scripted promo opportunities. Asuka manages to say more with 8 words and some facial expressions than HHH can say with a 20 minute in-ring promo on Raw. Asuka rules.

It always cracks me up when "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived" is announced as being from Milwaukee. Corey Graves calls Aires "poetry come to life," when he comes out.

Anyway, Aries wins vs. Oney "poor man's Tommaso Ciampa" Lorcan. He calls out Hideo Itami (who comes out in ring gear & boots, instead of sockless loafers - boooo!),& Aires promptly takes a powder. Graves says Aires "embarrassed" Itami here. OK. The phrase "Man's Man" gets repeated way too much in this segment. Also, pretty sure Black Sabbath needs to sue the WWE for Itami's entrance music.

Promo for some guy named Dan Matha (anyone know this guy?). Whoever put together this promo should be fired, as it's main effect is to give me (and probably you) nightmares about his insanely gross body acne. He also reminds me of someone, but I can't put my finger on who. It's like, Repo Man or someone else equally 90s.

Revival & Ciampa/Gargano tussle in the parking lot. Graves calls it "top guys doing top guy stuff."

Billy Kay beats Aaliyah. I kinda like Billy Kay, who's got a good look & entrance, but really needs a better finisher.

Mandy Rose cuts a God-awful promo against Ember Moon.

Please Sign Cedric beats Andrade "Cien" Almas, who is now both the worst dressed man in wrestling & officially a jobber now (his man-bun is still A+ quality though). Hitting "chillin' in the ropes" does not make up for getting pinned by a move the second-best cruiserweight kicked out of two days ago. Graves says the phrase "Quien es mas macho" in an accent that would make Donald Trump cringe. Phillips calls the Lumbar Check a "backbreaker." Where's Mauro Ranallo when you need him?

Good recap. I'll just riff off a few of your points here.

Actually, I think one of the most valuable things they do for guys is just get them used to delivering promos. More than content, most of these guys need to work on their delivery. Guys like Zayn, and especially Owens, really upped their games on that front, even if the basic quality of their characters didn't change too much from what we saw on tv.

I am also a pretty big Asuka mark, and I thought her English here was pretty good, and has really been improving. My main problem is that I know there are still some real talents in the NXT women's division, but we keep getting Liv Morgan and (sigh)Aliyah. Where's Nikki Glencross?

Yeah, this guy don't look great, and he has an awful name. Maybe he can win me over some other way?

Man, no kidding. A BIG BOOT IS NOT A FINISHER.

Now, all his ring gear has is a picture of a hat. Soon, it will be just a memory of the hat. I don't know what it is that's not working here, because Andrade is awesome. That was a spectacular match, easily the best Andrade's had since coming to NXT, and the crowd did not give a shit about him. My big hope coming out of this is the post-match sign of respect handshake. Put these two together in a tag team and let Alexander do the talking. I know most people would rather see Alexander in the main event picture, but the fact is that they seem to want him full-time on RAW sooner rather than later, so I don't know if that's going to happen. NXT could use tag teams, Andrade could use someone to speak English for him, and Alexander just needs something compelling to do until they call him up. That would tick all the boxes.

You know, someone really needs to tell this to Sammy Zayn also.

I have a different set of problems with the Heluva Kick, but to WWE's credit, they at least set that thing up as a killer move. When Owens got hit with that thing way back at the IC fatal four-way, he was down for like a full five minutes.

A regular big boot is much different from Zayn's Helluva-kick.
THe idea is that since you're in the corner there is no give. You take the full force. Also Zayn always follows through, making it look like he kicks through the person.
Sheamus' brogue kick is meh, any other big boot..also meh.

Morgan is slowly improving. I figure she's just a nice patsy to sacrifice to Asuka for now while they build up the real threats like ..erhm everyone else with Billy Kay being the first serious threat.

Cien seems to win the crowd once he wrestles. No clue on how they can salvage him. Wierd that they fucked it up, he has a lot of upside. And if I remember an interview with Del Rio properly, Cien isn't happy with where he is now.

That's a double-ouch for Matha whose real name is...wait for it...Dan Matha. Can't even blame this one on the NXT name generator.

Wow -- that would have been a sight to see..... not saying that it didn't work for you or anything, it would just be akin to someone busting out a figure-four leglock in the middle of a bar room brawl. Anyways, it gave me an interesting visual....
