Still don't think they've worked out what they're doing with Miz.

Are you saying that Danielson is a heel according to the WWE creative team or do you personally think he's being a heel and there's just a discrepancy between WWE booking and reality (like when all the faces picked on Molly Holly for being a virgin and having a big ass)?

I'm saying Danielson is a heel according to the WWE creative team. I believe there's thin line separating anti-authority face and deluded conspiratorial heel, and he's on the heel side of it.

Maybe my problem is I'm still factoring what Danielson did before being eliminated from this show. If we're supposed to forget his losses, or re-imagine them all like the losses to Batista and Jericho, put in an unfair position and still almost winning, then it would make sense for Danielson to be complaining about justification. But usually a guy who talks big and loses bigger is a heel, and not an effective one.

Maybe the other idea is Russo-ish that all those matches were fake, but this is now real, but that doesn't really work with Cole because he's as fake as everything else. Having the same incidents with Vince (or someone else who's more closely associated with the creative process, rather than a voicebox for them.)

If Cole was doing the same lines in a non-jerk way, I wouldn't seem so much the lone gunman on this. Danielson is the same either way.

You should have given up after this episode as soon as you saw Cole slap first. (You guys DID see that, right? It wasn't done very well, and Josh didn't do a good job pointing to it in the replay, but it was definitely there.)

Once Cole slaps you, he deserves everything he gets after that. At least, that's how I'd interpret the intent of the creative team.

Sing this special song. It's just for you.
"Zack Morris is loved all over the world."

Matthews has been my favorite announcer since Velocity, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Regal's death look to Miz after the refs pulled him back was a split second but still awesome. If only he hadn't gotten busted after winning King of the Ring...

This thread title had me hoping K-Per and Munn would relieve Striker of his duties for a week.

Ginger Ninja is a gift Slater. Use it.

Slater actually sounded good in his farewell promo.
This seems to be the problem with all of these guys.
The true fire shows when they're told to leave (then again, its much easier to cut a promo when you're somewhat emotional)

The weekly Bran-Cole thing has made sure that BD remains in the spotlight, and has been overshadowing the real contest for 2 weeks now.
Oh, and once again Regal was nodding along to what Danielson was saying, very cool.

So Barrett has been in the lead for a lot of weeks now,
is this even a contest now or will they swerve us?

I read somewhere that WWE trademarked only three NXT related ring names: Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett and David Otunga!

If Barrett wins it would be

a) too predictable
b) leave Otunga with nothing

So, I would have it go down like this:

David Otunga wins NXT and then challenges R-Truth (and maybe even beats him) for the US title.

Daniel Bryan is given a match with The Miz at the next PPV (and later a WWE contract) by RAW GM Bret Hart, who simply doesn't like The Miz. (Bryan could even get 5 minutes with Michael Cole after winning the match, as a special stipulation to it?)

And Wade Barrett could just become Chris Jericho's bodyguard, because he was so high on him from the beginning.

Then you probably read wrong, since David Otunga is his actual name, and thus doesn't nead a trademark.

WWE has trademarked the ring names Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett
and David Otunga, which suggests that they are going to have spots on the
main roster at some point.

On a side note, they did not trademark the other names on NXT.

But whatever they're trying to do isn't resulting in me being either sympathetic or invested in either one of them, or generally giving a crap about what's going to happen next.

To play devil's advocate:

In situations supposedly based on free voting predictability isn't necessarily the bad plot. There are plenty of occasions in wrestling when the sensible and more satisfying option is the predictable one rather than the shocking swerve.

Also in defence of the writers and performers, the fact that people aren't sure if Bryan is a face or a heel isn't necessarily a bad thing either. In any other TV show people would be pretty annoyed if characters were always so clean cut good guys or bad guys. A little blurring of the lines adds interest for me rather than removes it. Especially as Bryan isn't even having actual matches against faces or heels at the moment.

For the record he's definitely a face though.

I quite like this show.

It wouldn't be the first time the heel was correct (HBK/Jericho being one of the obvious examples of the heel being 100 percent right but being a heel anyways)

Danielson is definitely the face. Cole's been picking on him since day one for no real reason.

I still feel like Cole's rant about Bret screwing the Miz took the "no real reason" context away from Cole hating Daniel Bryan Danielson Bryanson. They just have to make sure they don't turn him against The Miz anytime soon in order to stay consistent. You reveal that Cole is a huge Mizfit and everything makes perfect sense.

Yeah, I just read that in the WON. That'll learn me to take three days to get through it. Or to put it another way, "Well. Shit."

Absolutely -- having characters with depth & complexity is the best situation of all. I'm a huge fan of the tweener guys, eg. Regal & Kane can slide back & forth seamlessly. Jericho is clearly a heel, but because he (his character) is funny & flawed, he's fabulously interesting. No, it's just the direction & execution of this particular story line that I think is going badly.

And, since you mention that Bryan's not having matches, I'm not clear how squabbling with Michael Cole eventually leads to wrestling. But I guess we'll see about that aspect of the plan.

Danielson put him in a handshake lock first! Clear aggressive move there.

But no, I don't think I saw the slap, and yes, I think I should give up my argument after having seen it.

Isn't the "winner" going to be decided in a triple threat match or something like that? I didn't see the show this week, but I thought I read that. That gives plenty of room for Otunga to win the whole thing where he can pull out a victory via shenanigans. Regardless, I'm quite certain that all of the Final Four, if not more, are going to end up in the fed.

Barrett has "it". He doesn't NEED the win to solidify his standing. Otunga, however, can use all the help he can get and winning the whole thing will just add to his already established cocky persona. Then Barrett can just pal around with Jericho, Gabriel can pal around with Hardy, and Slater can show up in a orange/red body suit and mask as the Ginger Ninja in a few weeks
