Did anyone ever say what the buy rate was for the initial NWA-TNA PPV? Did it match the Jarretts' prediction?

I heard that they were happy that it didn't suck to much. Although...it really did suck.

I hadn't heard anything, but to be honest, as long as it's good enough to keep them on the air, I don't really care how many other people are watching.

Also, in a related bit, anyone see the NEW nwatna.com? It's light years ahead of that incredibly bootleg original one.

I am not going to keep pushing this but I suggest that everyone check it out one week. A lot has been said about everyone bitching about the current state of the WWE without doing squat about it. I think the best way possible to show you are sick of the current state of things is to buy a NWA-TNA PPV. If nothing else just for a change of pace and give them some support to start something new. I am not saying it's perfect but I think it has a better non-suck to suck ratio than anything we have seen in WWE Stephie booking era. If they can stay alive long enough to be taken seriously there may be some guys that hate Vince so much they just might work for free just to bust his grapefruits.

The damn thing costs $3.95 here, the same as any PPV movie. I hear everyone talking about $10. Is that what you pay for a PPV movie in your area too? I am just wondering why the pricing difference.

Anyway, vote with your wallet if you don't like things. Yeah, it might not be that great yet but they are just starting. What is Vince's excuse?

Hmm... well, I believe it's $9.99 here, and movies are $3.95. Wonder if it varies by provider, or just geographic area.

The $9.95 price is "suggested." So your cable company probably doesn't take suggestions very well? :)

I just went and checked out the nwatna.com site and ran across
this open letter from Jerry Jarrett .

I have to admit , when I first heard about how Jarrett was going to run the promotion with PPV's only , I didn't think he had a snowballs chance in hell , but after reading his open letter to the fans , it actually makes perfectly good sense .

My cable company doesn't do a LOT of things very well. This time it seems to work in my favor for a change. Then again I haven't gotten the bill yet so they may have just had the wrong price on the recording when I ordered.

They certainly will not start out in the 1's or 2's but it will be more interesting to see the rating over time.

As for how much money they actually make off the PPV. Remember this formula, the cable companies take 50% off the top as a fee to carry the programming. So NWATNA makes $5 a person before costs are taken out. Taping 2 shows at once will save a lot of money. It would be interesting to know what is their break-even point.

To be fair, the question problem isn't if they are losing money, but how much money they are willing to lose, and for how long.

In the long run, they can bring profits with Video sales, merchandise, hopefully ticket sales... but in the short term they are going to lose money.

I'm not a business mogul or anything, but that's pretty standard for a business that is just starting up, right? That's why people get loans instead of funding things out of their own pockets... it takes money to make money.

I believe it was reported at 40,000 buys to break even. The same reporters had a hearty laugh at the concept of them getting 40K viewers, but it's possible that if they stick it out, they could conceivably recoup their losses if they don't hit 40K this time out.

From 411wrestling:

NWA:TNA got more than 50K but less than 150K buys for its first broadcast on PPV last week. The promotion needed 50K to break even on the costs of the first episode.

The encouraging buyrate will ensure that the promotion will continue on for at least several months.

NWA:TNA officials had high hopes of 150,000 buys, but that number was apparently not reached.

So they at least broke even. I would be more concerned with wek three or four to see if the rate goes up from people talking about the show or down from those who already bought it being disappointed with the product.

Also keep in mind... In Demand still owes Paul Heyman money for the 2000 ECW PPVs. With ID being the biggest distributor, the Jarretts are gonna be waiting looooong for that cash.

Thanks for reminding me about that. The wait time between the PPV and receiving the cash depends on the outlet and can be a short as 6 months or a couple of years if you are like In Demand and losing money also. They could factor the receivable to get quick cash but that will be discounted according to a bunch of factors. I could try to find out more info as our new CFO came over from a cable network and has worked on PPV's. The only thing she told me so far was that it was complicated, messy, and confusing.

So if they aren't going to receive money from some of the providers for 6months to a couple of years.... isn't that going to make it tougher for them to get by for the first little while?

not if they thought out their financial plan properly. If they did, they would have accounted for the fact that it will take more than 6 months to get the money. Most businesses don't turn a profit for the first 2 to 5 years, most businesses lose money during this time. The general goal most business people I know (small towns is like that, you know everyone) is for their business to actually become profitable in a relatively short time span (1 to 3 years), and remain profitable most of the time. It's all about the long term planning.

If they cracked .25 buy rate, I'm sure they'd be happy enough to shit themselves.
In either case, extreme warfare revenge has taught me that you do in fact need to piss away money for at least a few months to get people's attention. Hopefully they have secure enough financing to pull through. And who knows? They may end up with a TV deal after all if the ppv's do ok. I have a gut feeling that's their plan.
