There has beens some discussion of this before, but I thought I would ask everyone if you plan to order the NWA-TNA pay per view. What interests you about it, if so? If not, why are not planning to order it?
I have no interest in the ordering the PPV. First of all, battle royals (battles royal?) bore me to pieces, and it seems the NWA-TNA is pouring all of its energy into promoting the battle royal for the championship. Today, they announced a 10-woman lingerie battle royal. JEEZ! The NWA-TNA should change their name to BRW (Battle Royal Wrestling).
Second, the talent doesn't look all that great: Jeff Jarrett, Konnan, Ken Shamrock, Scott Hall, Buff freakin' Bagwell, Brian Lawler, Rick Steiner and A.J. Styles seem to be the headliners. Looks like a list of McMahon's rejects, to me.
That doesn't mean the wrestling will be bad, just becasue it's not WWE. But judging from the talent, this isn't something I care about.
Thoughts? Can this thing survive a month?

I am actually looking forward to seeing how the first show in hopes it's entertaining enough to watch on a regular basis. There is one thing I want to mention, though... Where is all this "Promoting?" I have not seen one commercial on the PPV Preview stations, one ad in a TV Guide, and if it wasn't for me being a wrestling fan who frequents message boards and reads The Observer and Figure Four Weekly, I would have no clue about their PPVs. The reason they are going to fail isn't because of poor talent (well it might be a factor) but poor advertising.

Here's the bad news for NWA-TNA ...

If any of those headliners (Steiner, Jarrett, etc.) ever start to get over in the mainstream at all, and we're talking a ways down the road, McMahon will simply scoop them up and add them to his roster. That's the way a monopoly works. Think we'll ever see an anti-trust case in the Supreme Court over sports entertainment. I think it's a real possibility.

The first PPV interests me based solely on how things are going to turn out. I think I heard they're getting Steamboat and Harley Race there, so it'll be like those old-time WCW events where they brought in important historical figures as they spit in their face in the ring (sometimes).

I'm surprised TNA even got the talent that they did. Having Shamrock and Hall adds somewhat of a punch to the roster, giving them two legit main event-caliber stars. I thought Jeff Jarrett did a great job as a heel in WCW towards the end, but I fear we'll get another HHH scenario. Actually, it can never get THAT bad in NWA-TNA, but it won't be pretty if it happens.

The women's battle royal is just a side thing, so as long as it doesn't eat up too much time, I don't care about that.

The NWA title Royal Rumble is somewhat of a good idea (compared to a straight BR) with the final two going to a pinfall, but a tournament would have been MUCH better. They really missed out by not building to the big crowning of the champion.

My guess is that the finals come down to Shamrock and Jarrett with Shamrock going over in some controversial fashion so Jarrett can beat him later.

I don't think I'll order the PPV, though, just because spending money on wrestling is pointless these days. Hell, I think it always was, and I really regret ordering about 75% of the PPVs I used to order back in the days when wrestling was actually GOOD.

This makes it a bit more interesting - here's some more talent who will appear at the PPV:

Gangrel, Psichosis, K-Kwik, Daffney, Steve Corino, Norman Smiley, Devon Storm, Lenny and Lodi, the Harris Bros., and Christian York and Joey Matthews.

Still looks like the rejects though.

That's because it is the rejects. If they wren't rejects, they'd have jobs with the WWF by now.

Anyway, I'm gonna order the first one to see how it is, but I don't anticipate it being good enough to want to buy the second one.

Well, there are certain people who won't make it back to the WWE no matter what. Like Buff Bagwell.

If Buff can make Vince money down the line, he will be signed. Vince has ALWAYS said "Never Say Never" and as bad as Bagwell looks right now, there could be something out there that brings him back as a major player.

Stranger things in wrestling have happened.

I highly doubt anyone is gonna give Vince a run for his money yet...

In order to compete with Vince, you need money, and lots of it.

If another Billionaire Ted rolls around and can lure an Austin, Benoit, or HHH, then you might have some competition.

Until then, NWA will just be an alternative like WWA. Doing this weekly PPV thing sounds good on paper but all in all I highly doubt anyone is going to be willing to pay $10 a week for wrestling. They need a syndicated show.

I'll watch it (DAFFNEY~!), but no, I don't give it more than a couple of shows. It would be tough enough to make money on it if they got all no-namers. IMHO, they are doing absolutely the wrong thing by signing the D-list talent. These are not names that carry any sort of clout in terms of a buyrate. The only person out there like that is Goldberg. Names like Hall, Jarrett, and Bagwell mean crap, so you're paying them more money for no reason.

I'm just not sure it's possible to start off a fed on a nationwide level. If it is, I don't see how.

I'm getting the first one, only for the trainwreck potential. I get a kick out of the occasional battle royal, and this could be something that's so bad you really just want to have it on tape.

Sort of like an Ed Wood movie, except with a larger budget, and the same caliber of acting.

Well, I'll order the first one, seeing as how it's only $10. But, after that, I dunno.

Gangrel is going to save this PPV. You see, he's not a reject. Vince just didn't recognize the talent.

(sighs) I could have put 100 dollars on that Maniacal Clown post. Just KNEW it was coming. Still have no use for Gangrel/Vampire Warrior, but hey, to each his own.

Onto the question, I'm ordering the first one, then it'll be a case by case thing. If they give me a reason to order the 2nd one, I will, if they don't, well...knowing me...I still will. Granted I could honestly give a damn about the big names, I want to see these new guys. The WWE is a big empire, they do overlook some talent, it's not possible for them to get them all, the new guys are the only way this company can survive. Make their own stars and build the company around Jarrett, Shamrock, and Hall as they do it. Three guys that aren't going back to WWE. Shamrock signed a 26-show deal, Jarrett ain't going anywhere, Hall's blown his last shot. It could work, but I'd be surprised.

With all the "These are WWF rejects" blather, I feel I should point out the exception.

A.J. Styles turned the WWE down, not vice versa.

This coming from a Bob Holly fan.

Any word on who is doing the play by play for this thing? This could make a big difference in overall quality.
