Small vignette with Jason Lancaster and Gypsy Joe. I think Gypsy Joe is 80-ish. They are going to team up? Ummm..
Announcer hype upcoming cards and the show today...into..
Match 1: Gypsy Joe and "Gypsy Jason" Lancaster vs. The Syndicate Crew with YT for the tag titles
Buzz Dupp is in the Syndicate Crew and I give him credit for selling Gypsy Joe's old man forearms like they were aluminum bats. Announcers say Joe is Lancaster's idol from childhood. Given Lancaster is about 20 or so, that would have to have been in a previous life. The other member of the Crew is L.A. Player and I wonder how many L.A. Players there are on the indy scene. Ends with a weird turn. This was uncomfortable.
Match 2: Kory Williams vs Jeff Daniels with Dominique
Not bad at all. Daniels has some old school in him and Williams gets around the ring ok. A nice clothesline (called a "flying elbow" by the announcers) by Daniels. Would like to see some more matches of his.
After these messages, Williams eats a chair in a promo segment.
Match 3: For the TV Title: Chris Gatlin vs Dante with Canibal (their spelling) Lecter
Dante is the champ, sporting a mask and yellow and red tights. Gatlin is quite good here and Dante, after a so-so start, gets into it. Lecter tries to interfere, and a shirtless kid whacks him with a hubcap. How many times did that happen to the Grand Wizard over the years? Dante goes for the loaded boot, but another wrestler in a neck brace grabs Lecter with a cuestick around the neck and off they go into the parking lot. A distracted Dante eats a superkick (according to the announcers, since the camera was watching the abduction) and there is a new TV Champ. Gatling and shirtless kid celebrate.
Match 4: Lonestar vs Shane Morton
Lonestar is pretty big. This squishy match is interrupted by a weird video about making out the budget for NWA Main Event. We are told Miss Penelope is in Lonestar's corner. Despite Morton getting very little offense in, 'Star and Miss P play the shenanigans card for the duke.
Match 5: Eric Darkstorm and Justin Sane vs Chris Sanders and Natas
No one is of legal drinking age here, all very youngsters. Darkstorm does hit a nice kick off of a forward roll, which Sanders sells perfectly. Natas is the X-Division champion, and the match is all X-division-ey. Finish comes quick, don't blink. Not bad.
Match 6: Booty Call vs Luciano and Cain with Charming Charles
Announcer: "He hits Joey Luciano right between the nose." This existed.
Two interviews are aired, with the graphic that this is an "encore presentation from September 2003". What? The whole show or just that interview? Is Gypsy Joe still alive?
Match 6: Mr. Mike Woods vs John Caesar
Woods is the NWA Mid-America Champion, or was, when this was taped, then. Woods has a good ring presence, kinda Mid-Atlantic early-80s heely. He fouls up a drop of Caesar on the top rope and John's head bounces off the mat. There's some interference for the champ to win. Woods looks like a heel champion, and paces deliberately and evilly.
As of 2/28/05: 101 pounds since December 7, 2004 OFFICIAL THREE-MONTH COUNT: 112 pounds on March 9, 2005 OFFICIAL SIX-MONTH COUNT: 142 pounds on June 8, 2005 As of 9/26/05: 170 pounds "I've lost a light heavyweight"
I think they have truly made stars of Roode and Storm now. Yes, it has been rushed, but I think this story really just getting started. Two new, homegrown talents are the focal point of the show, so I give them credit.
