Smith was seriously injured in an automobile accident when Smith's SUV ran through a stop sign and collided with another car. The passenger who was riding with Smith suffered serious head wounds and was airlifted into a hospital while Smith was taken there by ambulance (which says to me that Smith's injuries-- as yet unidentified-- weren't as serious). The driver of the other car and two other passengers in the SUV suffered minor injuries. I hope everyone involved in this ends up okay. ESPN reported that the injuries aren't serious; trying to find a source, but I had seen on there that Smith is expected to get out tomorrow. Still, neither Smith nor the other passenger were wearing their seatbelts. Oiiii.

He was in a coma and died of head injuries yesterday at 6 p.m. New Jersey time. Smith remains hospitalized with an injured left shoulder and numerous scratches. Smith is prior to this thing, it comes as interesting information. (For what it's worth, the comments by readers at the bottom of the article are vehemently thrashing Kizla for the column.)
