From what I've read Florida's offense is either awesome or their defense totally sucks. Or both. I'm betting both. Georgia is the fun pick right now for national champ for some crazy reason, just as Auburn was last year at this time. Returning a lot of starters is overrated at times. Like when a team(not talking about Georgia here) loses like four games, but they return all their starters they get ranked really high based on that. Why? Cause these players that weren't good enough last year are gonna get four games better? Usually doesn't happen. I'm not saying it's not a factor, but more often than not it makes the team about the same as it was the year before or just slightly better.

I think Virginia Tech is being underrated here. And Nebraska overrated. They don't have the talent to do the West Coast offense right now. They stay in a lot of games by pounding the ball and taking up lots of time so they don't often get blown out. Now they plan on passing a lot, which they won't be great at, and which will open them up to some severe ass kickings I think. Missouri has Brad Smith and, well they have Brad Smith. They are recruiting better and should be decent, but there are just too many questions right now(offensive line the big one).

Clemson is a big question for me as well. They finished strong, but I don't know how they'll do this year. Miami vs FSU to open the season will decide the ACC. Both have QB's that make lots of mistakes but I think FSU will be helped by having one less RB to shuffle in and out and giving it to Booker more. That kid is incredible.

Oklahoma, well teams know now that if you hit them in the mouth they don't get back up very well. They should be good but I will be amazed if White can go a second season without getting hurt.

SPEAKING of things it's never too early to talk about...

On the flip side, though...assuming like you said Berlin (although there's rumblings that the job will be won or lost in spring with Kyle Wright on Berlin's heels, but that's still starting a redshirt freshman if so) and Rix cancel each other out, I'm not sure who runs the ball for Miami. Gore may or not be back yet, and the next person down the depth chart is Ty Moss, who may or may not be ready for prime time.

I mean, the Labor Day Game makes for great TV and all, but with losing all the blue-chippers on D and reshuffling the decks at RB and reciever, FSU may just win this game by proxy of having their shit more together in September than Miami does.

Maybe but it's up in the air being so early. I mean FSU has a history of not playing well to start the season. Miami's D was the main reason they won both times last year though, so that is a factor. Hell both of those defenses were pretty great in those games. I don't expect them to be bad at all, but inexperienced. I'm thinking right now that Booker may be the difference. They used Jones too much last season when he was clearly not the same as before.

Washington can't get on the Top 25 because a) they're not very good, and b) they couldn't field enough linemen to have an actual spring game this year. :)

Frank Gore should be back for the start of the season. If not, Tyrone Moss is more than ready to go, plus we have like 3 RB recruits coming in that all have game. Berlin's gonna start, there's no way a red-shirt freshie like Wright gets his first game against FSU - do expect to see him take over later in the year if Brock plays like he did last year.

The problem with Gore is after two severe knee injuries in two years, they're going to NEED Moss to step right in, because there's no promise that Gore is the same at all.

There's just been little rumblings about Wright (but since most of them come out of the Herald, proceed with caution...it's like believing most dirtsheet sites) winning out the job. I'm with you on this though...the FSU defense would eat a QB making his first college start for breakfast.

I'm sorry, this poll is disqualified. Any poll that has Memphis football ranked, let ALONE in the top 15, is instantly debunked as a joke.

Agreed. Furthermore, Clemson is nowhere to be found on this list. I think people are underrating them big time.

And as a Georgia Tech grad, any list with UGAg at number one makes me cry.

Pat Tillman, rest in peace.

I don't think you understand how hard it is to drive a brand into the ground, and erode the popular support that has flourished for over thirty years. I get up early. And I don't go to bed until I've made some very poor decisions.

Not so fast, Memphis does have a lot coming back off a 9-4 team. Not only Williams, but Winprine and a pretty talented group of receivers. Now part of me would not be surprised if they blow it, since they are Memphis. But at least on paper, there is no reason this team shouldn't be able to compete for the Conference USA title, which would put them easily into the top 25, if not the top 15.

I don't understand this line of reasoning. I thought a preseason top 25 list would rank the 25 most talented programs in the country, not the 25 teams predicted to win the most games in the upcoming season. It may sound the same, but it's not. I think that when every team has an 0-0 record, schedule shouldn't play a role in ranking.

However, if that's why everyone is leaving them off, I guess I understand because they're definitely going to have a hard time this year. I think they'll still win 8 or 9 games though (with a little luck, maybe a 10th).
