Got this in e-mail today:

Dear Amazon member,

We regret to inform you that your Amazon account was been suspended for a period of 3-4 days, after that it will be terminated.
During our regularly schedule account maintenance and verification we have detected a slight error in your billing information on file with Amazon.
This might be due to either following reasons:

- A recent change in your personal information (i.e. change of address)
- Submitting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
- An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due an internal error within processors.

Please sign in to your Amazon account and update your billing information:

(link was here)

If your account information is not update, your account on Amazon will be terminated.

Thank you for your time!

Yup, I got one of those today, and a paypal one yesterday, and both an Omega Bank one and some other bank. Of course, thousands of people get them a day, so there's gotta be one or two people that actually believe them.

EDIT: I've seen a huge upswing in the getting of these emails lately (like the past two weeks or so). I can only surmise the holiday season brings out the scammers. Or my email is just randomly selected.

Same here, as if I didn't have enough of a reason to groan first thing in the morning at work. I got one a few weeks ago too, saying that the Savings Account Access on my Visa Debit card was going to be blocked. Didn't fall for that one either. That attempt was a little more comical, though, as it clearly showed at least six other people that the message was being sent to in the "To:" line.

And the EVEN more clever:

??Dear user, the management of
[domain name's] mailing system wants to let you know that,

Our antivirus software has detected a large ammount of viruses outgoing
from your email account, you may use our free anti-virus tool to clean up
your computer software.

For further details see the attach.

Kind regards,
The
[domain name's] team [my company's web address]

The SAD thing is I fully expect the computer-illiterate president of the company to fall for one of these and kill the network. Thankfully I've got Macs.

agree with wmatistic My ATI All in Wonder pro does not work with Vista and that is screwing with my homebrew DVR right at the moment - I want it on Vista for a couple reasons, but it is on XP to support the card.
