| #1 Posted on 2.7.02 0020.52 | A question, folks...
It seems to me that ever since he dropped the whole Fresh Prince gimmick, Will Smith has had a sample from a previous hit song backing him up on whatever single he's currently got on CHR (that's "Contemporary Hit Radio," the biz's slang for your local Top 40 dreck-o-rama.)
Cases in point: "Forget-Me-Nots" by what's-her-name-from-VH1's-One-Hit Wonders-special for the theme from Men in Black, the riff from Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" for "Wild Wild West," and wherever he got that "na-na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na-na" sample for "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." (I know I've heard it somewhere.)
Anyhoo...I swear I've heard the backing riffs from his latest single, "Nod Ya Head (Black Suits Comin')," from MIB 2. The question is...which frickin' song is he borrowing from this time?
Help alleviate my head pains...thanks.

| #4 Posted on 2.7.02 0650.45 | That "Nod Ya Head" song is the worst song of the year by far.
I don't know what song it samples but there's 2 versions, a rock version and a rap version.

I find nod to be really catchy!! Although I liked it less when I discovered that it was will singing it, and not some random no-name.
don't forget will's other big hit "just the two of us" (i don't think i have to tell you what song that sampled...)

| #6 Posted on 2.7.02 1744.08 | I have a funny feeling I'm wrong, because I haven't heard the song/seen the video that much. But for some reason, I think it might be sampling Kool & The Gang's "Jungle Boogie" - at least, the background riff for it, not the actual vocal melody or backing vocals.
Then again, like I said, I have a funny feeling that I'm wrong...

| #7 Posted on 3.7.02 0057.00 | RageRockrr: Nope, I'm afraid that's not it. Although the rock riffs behind "Nod Ya Head" sound a lot like the bass line from "Jungle Boogie" played backwards. Thanks for the help, though.
Keep the suggestions comin', kids...my moronic self still ain't figured it out!

Sampling itself is inexcusable.

| #9 Posted on 10.7.02 1656.10 | I heard on CNN that Born To Reign is the first album where Big Willy uses MOSTLY instrumental accompaniment instead of sampling... So, perhaps the music for Nod Ya Head really IS music after all.

| #11 Posted on 12.7.02 0045.11 | I've been trying to find who wrote the song...sometimes you can find where the sample came from if the group/writer is listed as a composer.
Can't track it down, though...

| #12 Posted on 12.7.02 0049.04 | somebody's gonna have to break down and buy the damn album to let us all know.
more: That might be the solution, anyway. Depending on how they reached agreement with whoever they may or may not be sampling, they may not have to list the sample. And if they couldn't get the rights, they could have just recorded music very similar to that which they wanted to sample.
