Results:

Chavo d. Punk with frog splash
Undertaker wins SD Elimination Chamber
Flair d. Kennedy with figure four leglock
Edge d. Mysterio with spear
Cena d. Orton by DQ
HHH wins Raw Elimination Chamber

Looking at those results you would think it was a pretty subpar show. However, the Raw Elimination Chamber rocked. Jeff Hardy kicked out of a pedigree and made us all think he would win, but a pedigree on a chair changed all of that.

Also, the Big Show returned 106 pounds lighter and seems to be heading towards a match with Floyd Mayweather, as Mayweather saved his friend Rey from a chokeslam. Floyd nailed Show with three or four solid punches that bloodied Show's face.

Solid show.

All shows should now be filmed in Vegas; that crowd was hot as hell.

The Smackdown chamber was okay; finish was wicked cool.

I can't believe how great the Big Show/Mayweather segment was. This is going to make so much money...

Cena/Orton was a perfect example of a great screwy finish.

For 0.0001 seconds I thought Hardy was going to win, and then I realized that HHH had reversed the ToF on the chair. Hardy sure got protected, but a little piece of me still died inside at HHH's win.

I usually don't get bent over finishes...but damn has the WWE pissed me off with Orton vs. Jericho and Hardy's last two losses. I really have zero interest in HHH vs. Orton.

If you watch in slow-mo, you'll see Mayweather's last left hook legit bust Shows nose.

Coach and Cole were way off tonight:

Coach:" Indestructible, bullet proof glass" = crash and give

Cole: "On the unforgiving concrete" = on the metal chamber floor.

Big Show's nose got totaled by Mayweather. Just totaled. First time in a long time I've actually had to wonder if I'm being worked or not (of course I am- but it sure looked like that was broken nose, which added an additional dimension to things).

Chavo vs Punk was a good match, but man does Punk get the choker treatment or what? I recall the Morrison feud going the exact same way; Punk would get chance after chance and never win but somehow always get the rematch. If hadn't been for Wellness... well, anyways. The hurricanrana counter to the GTS was pretty sweet.

Smackdown E.C. got good once V and Khali were out. I thought the finish was pretty rad.

Flair/Kennedy and Edge/Mysterio were just kind of there. F/K was a good match tho.

Orton/Cena was just... eh. When your spots consist of a game of "will he/won't he" on count out's, I tend to zone out. And a DQ on top of that, and a lame one since it was pretty obvious that Orton was trying to get DQ'd. Ah well, I'm sure Cena's just gonna be added to the 'mania match anyways.

Raw E.C. was awesome. That double Samoan drop? FTW, that was awesome.

edit: found a pic of Show's nose. Def looks broken.

Another thing I forgot to mention: Umaga was a monster tonight. With the double samoan drop (he dropped Jericho and Michaels stacked on top of each other AT THE SAME TIME) and the running butt splash into Jericho through the plexiglass he almost stole the show. His elimination was great, as it took a code breaker, a super kick, a pedigree, and a swanton from the top of the pod to finally take him down. It was awesome.

Rawlimination Chamber was GREAT with a lot of thought put into it. Smackdown's had a few great spots (the finish, the MVP death) but 10 consecutive minutes of V and Khali put it in a hole.

Cena vs. Orton was so very great until the non-finish. These guys are awesome. If they'd gone to dramatic finishers'n'kickouts after all that, it would've been a Match OTYC.

Big Show's busted up face was legit; I'm sure he agreed to take real punches to get this over. Yucky.

I'm happy that Ric got some real wins as this winds down instead of fluking over on everyone more important than Curt Hawkins.

I could swear I saw a guy named Floyd Mayweather on 24/7 specials talking about how much his hands hurt and the special treatment he has to have so they feel even okay and how he's really not physically capable of fighting much more. Guess that was a different guy.

The Cena match was fine and the story it told, that being Orton just not being able to put Cena away, was a good one. The finish was unique and I would've liked it in certain situations, but this wasn't one of them. To me, in storyline terms, the referee looked like the fool here; he's got to use discretion on when to disqualify someone for hitting him. It was obvious Orton was TRYING to get DQ'd, so the ref rewarded him by giving him what he wanted, an easy way out. To me, this seems to set up a three-way match between Orton, Cena and Triple H at WrestleMania.

The audio wasn't up in the restaurant where I watched the PPV, so there was some confusion over why Big Show attacked Rey. The Mayweather/Big Show meeting brought back shades of Tyson and Austin, which ironically, I just viewed that on the Raw XV DVD earlier in the day. It'll garner some buzz and I thought the angle was well done. Big Show's nose breaking will sure add to the memorableness(?) of it.

The show started off good with a solid CM Punk vs. Chavo match. It was much more up-tempo than their TV matches have been, and Punk's kick to Chavo's head while Guerrero was on the apron drew some "oohs" from the patrons at the restaurant. The Smackdown Chamber match was better than I expected. Some innovative spots as well as Big Daddy V and Great Khali looking pretty decent made for a fun match. Flair vs. Kennedy was what you'd expect. You know exactly what you're getting out of Flair at this point. Edge vs. Mysterio wasn't much, but they had an excuse.

The Raw Chamber match was good too, especially the last ten minutes or so. There will be those decrying Hardy's loss, but I thought he came out looking very good. He got a lot of offense in on Triple H in their one-on-one battle, and even kicked out of the pedigree. No damage was done to him here as they seemed to keep him strong, which in and of itself is a bit of a surprise. Easy thumbs up for this show. All the wrestlers really seemed to amp up the energy and it showed.

"Keeping _____ strong" is the most meaningless thing in the world these days. This isn't 1986 where fans are paying attention to whether or not Sam Houston is getting in a good amount of offense against Ole Anderson and saying "wow, Sam almost beat him!" Jeff Hardy just got pedigreed back into the midcard, and will not be seen again at the top anytime soon. The crowd made very clear who they were pulling for, but sometimes what the paying customers want just can't be the #1 priority.

The Mayweather/Show angle confuses me, but I'm willing to see where it goes. My first instinct is failing to see how letting Show get bloodied like that by a guy 1/3 his size can possibly help him, but if they really have Mayweahter involved in something more than a one night thing it might be able to pull some big money. Of course the problem is that unlike 1998 when Tyson was there to showcase Steve Austin in the main event of WM I don't really see the general public giving two shits about Randy Orton or HHH.

While watching the PPV we were trying to figure out the last WM when neither HHH or Undertaker were involved in a World Title match. Eventually we realized it was WM 17 when they faced each other.

If I didn't have tomorrow off of work I wouldn't have bought this PPV, but I figured it would give me a good reason to stay up late and watch it on the DVR. After this one though I can't really see myself buying Wrestlemania. The prospect of watching UT and HHH winning their respective brand's titles just does absolutely nothing for me, and I can't see a way to justify $45 for the priviledge. I'd have paid to see Jeff Hardy in the main event of WM. I'd have paid to see Finlay in the Smackdown title match. I'd have paid to see Jericho, or possibly even Michaels in the main event. But if I want to watch a PPV with the same old guys on top yet again, and the younger, harder working guys filling the midcard I am sure I have some old WCW ppv's lurking around here somewhere.

That double slam by Umaga was nothing, Beth Phoenix did the same move to two male wrestlers in OVW.

Now that's impressive.

Live from Las Vegas ...

(While I'm sitting in the parking lot, I figure I may as well type a little bit.)

Fun show! I love live shows!

Getting into the building was crazy-stupid, so didn't get in til partway through Shelton vs. Kane.

Chavo d. CM Punk to retain ECW title. Was fine.

Rey is going to wrestle with a torn up biceps. OK, that's foolish of him, but I can see where he's sick of being hurt, & this area is a huge fan base for him.

SmackDown elimination chamber. I scoffed about this. And a lot of it turned out to be really good! Undertaker & Batista worked their asses off, & just were excellent. I'm guessing there was major panic backstage when the door came open & Taker fell out. There was a lot of discussion about whether he was really good to go, but he rallied! (I swear Matt Striker was the one who got the latch to finally work. Clever boy.) I was all set to say that the bump off the side of the cage by Khali's valet was really nice - looked very realistic! However, the fact that he got hurt kinda put a damper on that. After Khali got eliminated, they were signalling that he was hurt too, but since he eventually walked out, it was probably OK. I absolutely loved Taker charging into MVP's booth & beating him up, before he even got a chance to get out! And the spot where MVP tried to run & hide, but just ended up taking that big air bump was fun. Finley was very solid, & I was glad that they came up with another clever way for Hornswoggle to pop up. Other than the near debacle with the cage door, & the dead weight of Viscera & Khali, the rest of the match was excellent!

Was a little cranky about the placement of the Edge vignette. We were wanting to appreciate Batista & Undertaker, & the video was getting in the way of that. (No clue what was said.)

The full Flair moon when Kennedy grabbed his tights was hilarious! :-) And that upside-down kinda figure 4 thingie hanging over the edge of the ring looked nasty.

Really game of Rey to go out there, although I kept worrying that he'd make it worse. Big contingent of Edgeheads, along with the expected Mysterio fanbase.

I missed the Big Show promo, & didn't see all the details of the ensuing bloodying. But I'm guessing we'll see all that replayed. Maybe they didn't explain to the boxer that this is worked, & he wasn't actually supposed to bash Big Show straight on in the nose. The way he & his "posse" took off looked pretty punk-ass to me. Especially since he had 2 guys nearly as big as Show. Shane talking Show down was pretty amusing. *

Cena vs. Orton was one of the most fun matches, just for the rabid, dueling crowd. Cena is excellent working the crowd when they get all rowdy. The match was totally solid. I liked both the near count-outs. And actually an excellent heelish ending. Particularly nice when the ref bailed immediately after calling the DQ. "You slap me, & expect me to hang around to help you? Noooo." As Randy is tapping frantically. Heels without stables don't get help, Randy. This & the Undertaker/Batista/etc match were the best.

Elimination chamber comes back down for the Raw match, & the elves have to scurry to replace the broken chamber from the earlier match. I'm pretty sure I've never seen Jeff Hardy's entrance get a bigger crowd pop than Shawn Michaels. I want to love Chris Jericho, but he's just not in the zone like he used to be. There's that snappy, crisp, hungry-feeling intangible that he's just not bringing to the party since he got back. And if Shawn can't get it out of him, I'm not sure who can. I'm not particularly a (an?) Umaga fan, but he did hit a couple of good moves, plus the "holy shit" through the glass. I missed how Shawn got entirely so bloody, but he sure was. Oh, JBL was there -- eh. Very suprised that Hardy didn't get turned loose til last -- the crowd was waiting for him in a big way. He & HHH did good solid stuff, & Jeff did his big flying stuff. They were good, worked hard, but felt rushed.

Crowd was bummed that Jeff lost, but nice moment after the match when HHH gave Jeff a hug & raised his hand.

Overall, really entertaining live show. Minimal fluff, couple of excellent matches, no bad matches, great crowd involvement -- fun time!

So, did y'all see Shane wrangling Show afterwards? (I can't believe that they actually *worked* breaking Show's nose.) I've got to think that the boxer guy got just a little carried away.

This is incredibly melodramatic given that Hardy beat HBK clean as a whistle last week, joining a cadre of post-back-injury beneficiaries that you could count on one hand (HHH, Orton, Kennedy...anyone else?). Then there's the fact that he was even the second-to-last guy in there, and going at it all the way. Then there's the fact that, according to the dirtsheets, he's pencilled in for a big MITB win at WrestleMania. I have every confidence that Hardy's time will come. They just didn't want to derail the stuff they've already set in motiont, and rush things when they can make more money off of more match combinations by taking things slowly.

Good show. I enjoyed the SD Chamber quite a bit, but the Raw one blew it away. The Show/Mayweather stuff was astonishing - now that's how you do celebrity involvement, Russo.

Gee thanks, I already saw Hardy compete in a MITB match LAST year. Why don't we shake things up and actually, you know, have HHH compete in a MITB match at WM and acknowledge the midcarders for a bit? He can even bury them and win the match. I'd just like to see someone besides a healthy (as I can assume that's the only reason he wasn't headlining LAST WM - and don't think I don't appreciate not having to see him last year) HHH compete in the main event at WM.

Puh-leez. Like they haven't changed WM main events on the fly before and made it work. This was the first non-major PPV I've ordered from the WWE in ages... and will now probably be the last. Maybe Aurora Rose can pin Orton for the title in 2009.

Did he win the MITB last year?

Like it or not, the 'E is in the business of making money. And HHH/Orton/Cena plus Hardy in a big-time ladder match equals more buys than shoehorning Jeff into an already crowding title picture. Who do you build an issue with? What's the fresh match-up? The only good option was Hardy/Cena, a match that could conceivably fall flat on its ass due to crowd reaction and subpar ringwork. So why not gild the lilly a little more - put Jeff over bigtime at Mania, and have him cash in his title shot in a well-built, one-on-one environment at, say, SummerSlam?

Also, your case isn't helped by the usual silly, unfunny anti-HHH/McMahon jibes (Aurora Rose winning the title! Haw haw!).

Sam just never recovered mentally after taking the Texas Trash Compactor from Black Bart in his loss of the Mid-Atlantic Title. All the protecting in the world would never help him overcome that defeat.
Tyson still had the aura back in '98 to the casual viewer, Mayweather doesn't have the Tyson aura. Better chance of it being LT vs. Bam Bam than of it being Tyson'esque.
With all this talk of MITB at Mania, a question: What happens if they have a steady to heavy rain storm during the show?

It's not shoehorning if Hardy wins... it's simply Hardy vs. Orton. Or Hardy vs. Cena. The others go into MITB just like all the non-Rumble-winning big names did last year. Yes, it's THAT easy.

Hahaha. HHH/Orton is a unique matchup? Come to think to think of it, HHH and ANYONE is a unique matchup? Hmmmm Hardy/Cena and the chance of subpar ringwork vs. HHH/Orton and subpar ringwork. Are you kidding me?

So help me, if that comes to fruition, I will NEVER EVEEEEER criticize the E for its booking again. Promise. (Seriously, bookmark this and we'll revisit it in 6 months.) THAT's how sure I am that it's not going to happen. Hardy wins MITB at Mania? Yawn. Like I haven't seen him conceivably take every single risk possible in a ladder match before. So what if he wins? BFD? The E had its chance all winter to pull the trigger and didn't. Name one person whose defining title reign began at SS. WM is where the "legends are made" and Hardy winning another ladder match ain't gonna do it.

If the Elimination Chamber rules are falls count anywhere, no DQ and no rope breaks, then Big Daddy V definitely had Undertaker pinned for the three while standing on his chest/throat.

Lillian sounded like Homestar Runner as she announced Flair's "careeeoooaar-threatening match".
