Not that I don't doubt he'd try and pitch with a broken hand, but we are even deeper in the pile now. The Sidewinders (AAA) are practically being cannibalized while the bats are barely awake, need coffee mode. We usually struggle during interplay as it is. At least Webb should be back next week.

I think the D-Backs are cooked anyway. They simply have nobody that can hit, aside from Luis Gonzalez (and he's been slumping in the last few weeks). At least they'll finish ahead of San Diego (sorry Guru Zim)

In the issues of December 16th, 2000 to November 10th, 2001, we may have given the impression that George W. Bush had been legally and duly elected president of the United States. We now understand that this may have been incorrect, and that the election result is still too close to call. The Economist apologizes for any inconvenience.

The really frustrating thing this year is that we do get some hitting. But we seem to be fabulous at doing it at the most useless times. There are games where you look over at the scoreboard, & we have 3 times as many hits as the bad guys, & we're behind anyway. I'm pretty confident that we should be right in the running for Most Men Left Stranded On Base. Nobody's hitting consistently, & most of the guys are "swinging for the pool" as soon as we get a couple of guys on.

I find that the best way to think of it is : You never know what you're going to get at a Diamondbacks game! Maybe Kurt Schilling, maybe an A-ball pitcher! Maybe a shutout, maybe a rout! It's much more exciting than a couple of years ago when we were doing lots of winning. (*rolls eyes*) :-)

On the good news side, Paul Abbot pitched the other day for the Sidewinders...

I'd only be impressed if it was Jim Abbott.

One arm no-hitter>everything, but come on, Paul was part of the Mariners 116 wins...besides, even if he's .500 that'll put him with Batista and Dessens...

What was this comment that Schilling recently made about wanting to play for Toronto?

Well you're in your little room
and you're working on something good
but if it's really good
you're gonna need a bigger room
and when you're in the bigger room
you might not know what to do
you might have to think of
how you got started in your little room
da da da

Saying Paul Abbott was part of the Mariners 116 wins is kind of like saying Stacey King was part of 3 Bulls' Championship teams. He was THERE, but he had big-time run support that year and didn't really pitch like a 17-4 pitcher would normally have to pitch to get that good of a record.

If you're excited about Paul Abbott pitching for your team, then your team sucks.

Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.

Thanks for beating the Astros anyway. The Cubbies have been needing some help the past two series.

Just rumors, same with the Philly homecoming or Atlanta stuff. He is a free agent. I think the whole "CURT SMASH PUNY QUESTEC!" and the like has really been blown out of proportion--if he's such a problem/loudmouth/whatever, why are other people interested?

He actually called up a Jays assistant coach (not sure which one, although apparently they go way back) and said that he would like the chance to pitch for the Jays.

-crosses fingers-

Imagine this, a rotation of Schilling, Halladay, Lidle, Escobar........-drools-

:)

Do you think the D-Backs would take a deal of Schilling for Shannon Stewart and Mark Hendrickson? (crickets chirping)

This is why we need to get Vince McMahon a baseball team. He'd take one look at Hendrickson and say "Look at the size of him! What a monster! You can have this Pedro guy...he's not even six feet tall."

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!

Nope, because Schilling's nickname out here is 'the big hoss.' Traber cracked me up with his 'Big Potato, oops I meant Big Daddy' for Valverde. We could probably use a guy like Stewart though, unless Bautista+McCracken+Delucci equals the numbers.

..oh crap we just lost Tony.

Man, Uecker is corny, but still very funny. Boswell wrote a great column today on Eddie Murray, which I'd encourage people to read. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51286-2003Jul26.html
