( sound of bones creaking and a cane tapping around)

The first video game I played was "pong" in a table. Then "space invaders" and "Asteroids" came out, which I would play all afternoon. I was also big into pinball games. Especially when elaborate ones like "haunted house" came out. The next video games that came out that I was really into were (of course) PacMan, Galaxians, Tanker(I think thats what it called) and my all time fav, Centipede. I also liked Tempest, Joust, and Dig Dug.

maybe, I just remember you played it looking through a periscope type sight mounted in front of the screen and used two seperate joysticks (just like a real tank/tractor) to maneuver.

bigwavedave - That would definitely be Battlezone. I only played it once, when I was eight, and remember it distinctly - because some boys came by and flipped up my skirt while I was playing! (I did get to punch them later.)

I used to love Battlezone, oddly hip in its linear graphics. The same with the Star Wars game (but only the one where you could sit down).

In the arcade, I really dug Track and Field, but only the one with the rollerball, not the buttons. My scores were always like night and day on the different machines.

On the Atari, Pitfall! and the Bomb game (whose actual name escapes me.) And the very very cheesy Superman game.

Man, in the arcade, TMNT absolutely ruled. I loved playing that game, it was in our Pizza Hut, so playing that game and then going back to eat a nice warm pizza was a fantastic day.

Thank you Moe for restoring my faith. I had just said to myself "I must be the oldest bastard alive if no one is mentioning Spy Hunter". We wasted many a recess playing that game in school.

Also the original wrestling game on NES was fun.

But without a doubt Tecmo Bowl owns you all.

KaBoom!!! would be the game you are referencing. One of my personal favorites, myself along with:
Contra
Zelda/Link
and since I don't game much, GTA3 is awesome, because I can just pick it up, play 30 minutes to an hour, work a mission or two, go searching for packages, or try to jump on new buildings and put it away for a couple days

Was there also an arcade version of this? Was it the one where you could be Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Bossman, or the Honky Tonk Man (there might have been one more).

I think Phil is referring to Pro Wrestling for the NES, which is still the best wrestling game ever made - and not just because it featured the greatest wrestler of the modern era, the mysterious Starman. His high-flying and deadly one-two combination of the Flying Cross Chop and Somersault Kick stymied many an opponent.

I still love that game. Games with actual WWF wrestlers are nice, but I'd go out and buy a GameCube today if they made Pro Wrestling for the GameCube (and it had Starman and The Amazon).

The original Pro Wrestling NES game was great, because it had the Pink Luchador! And he did a move that looked much like the Flying Jalapeno of Tito Santana.

And I admit it with no shame. Tecmo Bowl, and it's followup, Super Tecmo Bowl, do own me lock stock and barrel. And I am okay with this.

There, I feel better now.

Pro Wrestling did totally rule. But Starman was a punk! No one came close to the all inspiring power that is...THE AMAZON! He's totally hardcore!

And TMNT is one of the best arcade games ever! Nothing like getting on the giant 4 player unit (It came in 2 and 4 player for those who haven't had the joy of playing this game.) And just kicking ass with all the Turtles!

Tetris
Pac-Man
Donkey Kong
Frogger
Battletoads
Kid Icarus(man, that game made me it's bitch and abused the hell out of me, but I always came back for more)
Bubble Bobble
Pigskin Footbrawl
Mr. Do
Contra
Heavy Barrel
Air Hockey(if it counts, cause it's not really a video game)
Space Invaders
Pong
Dragon Fire(Best. Atari. Game. Ever.)
Punch Out
TMNT arcade game

curses! Now I actually have to stop and think..I guess now is a good time to stop listing then.

King Slender and Kin Corn Karn vs. Fighting Hayabusa and The Amazon would definitely be a five star affair. Special added bonus on commentary, my friend Josh who lived down the street from me as a kid, he used to pronounce The Amazon, the Amazin'. No matter how many time we corrected him it was always the amazin'

A freind of mine has Battlezone on his computer. It rocks exactly like the original.

One of my favorite coin-ops was John Elway football. One time I was leading by a TD with about a minute left, but accidently kicked off BACKWARDS (don't ask) and they took it in for a score. Luckily, I returned the resulting kickoff for a TD (only time ever) and the Pack won again.

Punchout- I did win the title a couple of times after I got the pattern down. And it's Pizza Pasta, BTW.

Donkey Kong
vs. Tennis
Defender
Asteroids (except when the score turned over)

Stephanie, you rock!

I can't believe I forgot PacMan Jr. If you played the video portion right, you got to play the mini pinball game it was saddled up to. And yes, the original Donkey Kong was kewl! Does anyone remember Galaga? a sort of souped up Galaxians?

What was the game where you rotated around the lip of a tunnel and you shot at spiders and things that came up at you???
