My loathing for Heroes is a matter of public record so Hooray! A rare intelligent decision by NBC not to give 'closure' to Heroes. It's dead, Jim. Keep it that way.

Can we be the ones to start a TBS rumour?

It ended well, so there is no need for a movie. If they did a cliffhanger ending then I would be all for it, but they didn't so there is no outcry to finish it. I don't know why you think its an intelligent move by NBC when they are going to replace it with the terrible looking The Chase or the Cape, an even worse looking Heroes clone. It was better to keep a proven product on which had a fan base instead gambling on something new. Regardless of what they put on Monday night, it will get crushed by CBS' comedies and/or Monday Night Football.

Claire revealing her powers on live television wasn't a cliffhanger ending?

A stupid cliffhanger ending, to be sure, but nonetheless ...

That makes perfect sense. It's better to keep something that wasn't working, gets more expensive to produce every year, and only pleases a consistently diminishing audience instead of pulling the plug and looking for something new that might work better? That's good business. You haven't seen any of the new shows yet. Could they be worse than Heroes? Sure. But what if they're not and one of them clicks?

Either way, for what it would cost to keep Tim Kring in dollars and keep that cast employed (actors don't get cheaper as time goes on, they re-negotiate and get more expensive - they don't take pay cuts because ratings are a third of what they were in the beginning) killing Heroes was the intelligent move. Heroes was done. In fact, it was done at least a season before it died. At least.

I don't think its a cliffhanger. Its probably one of the ways I would have ended the show. The best way was Sylar's funeral without the Sylar/Nathan nonesense. Heroes is based on a comic book world and most comic book worlds don't end. If they do end, its sorta like Heroes, where it has the heroes or whats left of them looking to a new adventure or killed off. The best example is Sandman, yeah Dream is gone, but Michael takes his place while looking ahead to new adventures with Matthew at his side. Claire coming out will either lead to re-doing the fugitive storyline again, but play up the persecution a bit more or the Heroes getting accepted. Even in the accepted role, there will bumps along the way, but probably nothing as major as Sylar or even the Carnival. To me, its a good way to end the show, because it allows the fan to write the ending for themselves.

As for Heroes getting expensive each year, their budget was slashed from last year and probably cost less to produce then most of NBC's shows. While NBC like any network dumped a ton of money into PR into any new show, so they can attract a fan base. Plus, how much do you think they are paying Jimmy Smith to come back for his show or the Chuck cast which has a slightly better rating in a weaker time slot with the same amount of FX each week or the 20 some odd pilots from the Jay Leno debacle or The Event show where there is ads all over the place for it? I would dare say more then Heroes, I would say the ads for the Event is already close to a third for what it costs for Heroes before they start even shooting it.

Plus, if money for the cast and show was an issue, write a few of them out like they did with Mohinder. They really only need five returning characters: Sylar, Claire, Noah, Hiro and Peter. Everyone else can be easily written off or killed. Matt would really only need to be in half the episodes as well. If they wanted Heroes on, they could keep it on. Instead, they are going to dump the same amount of money for what Heroes cost with a show that may get a nice first night rating which almost every show does and then probably gets worse ratings as the season goes on. Its easier to spend money on a show that has an established fanbase then trying to gamble on new shows. Why do you think most TV shows go seven plus years nowadays, because most new shows bomb and cost more then established ones. As for Heroes not working, it brought in good cash on DVD sales and Hulu, it was just on a night where there is a lot of competition and some really terrible writing in Season 3 that season 4 really became a mop-up effort instead of a full season.

I still think Company Man is one of the best hours of episodic television I've ever seen, but that does not make an entire series. This show needed a bullet after Season 2, when it became perfectly obvious the writers had little idea as to where they were headed.

Heroes' audience wasn't going to grow. Early fans of the show, including myself, who gave up on it after the storylines became more and more ridiculous were not going to come back in any significant numbers unless a MAJOR reboot happened (and the buzz got large enough to warrant a look). Why reboot a young and already fairly destroyed franchise when you can just start over with something new?

Most TV shows don't go anywhere near 7 seasons. Even if you discount the majority that are never really successful, still most don't make it to 7 seasons. Only the major hits (and occasionally something with the right niche) do.

The problem with the "established fanbase" of Heroes is that most of us didn't care anymore. I loved the show in Season 1. After that terrible writing in Season 3, I gave up on it entirely. There are a lot of fans like me, and as Leroy says it would be really hard to get us back.

I'm still waiting for NBC to give a conclusion to Las Vegas, but I don't think that's coming either.

In my haste to skim over thread titles, I misread this as "No More Heroes Movie". It is not. I am a bit sad.

One of the better FG's I've seen in a while. As you might imagine, Brian and Stewie steal the show. The main plot actually fell somewhat flat, but it's Meg, so what can you do?
