| #1 Posted on 6.10.02 0937.58 | I just heard the new single "You Know You're Right" for the upcoming box set. It was great to hear something new but Good Lord does that song repeat itself. Without the constant looping I think the song would last about 30 seconds and that is just sad.

| #2 Posted on 6.10.02 1624.46 | It is amazing how many bands have co-opted Nirvana's style; I had forgotten until hearing that new song. So many bands sound like that these days. Too bad it wasn't a little more kick-ass. I still maintain that their 2 live CDs are the best ones (Unpluggd & Muddy Banks.)
Also, please don't tell me how Nirvana stole their sound from the Pixies or the Melvins or the Vaselines or whatever else you heard Kurt Loder say. I've heard it all before, and all I can say is "not really."

I had an mp3 of a live version of the song which seemed to be longer and somewhat less repetitive.
By the way, it's more likely that this track will be the featured "reason you should buy" on an upcoming greatest hits CD, not a boxed set. This sucks in new and exciting ways, because a) I'm ready and willing to shell out anywhere from $50-200 bucks for a big, bad ass Nirvana box with live stuff, outtakes, and video just like about a million other Nirvana fans are and b) I hate greatest hits CDs that have "newly recorded" tracks on them because it's lame and crappy.
This song isn't anything special, IMO. I suggest hunting down the boombox track clip of "Old Age" (which is the main reason I wanted a boxed set and I would almost guarantee that it won't be available in full length or any better quality than what's out there as long as Whoretney has control over Nirvana's legacy because it is far superior to Hole's version) and "Talk To Me," a song I've only found live which will ROCK YOUR BALLS.

Actually, I thought Kurt admitted he was stealing song structures liberally from the Pixies during some interview. Then again, it's the whole "soft verse/loud chorus", which coulda come from any number of sources.

Yeah, that is the most obvious one. But I've listened to the Pixies for years and years, but I never listened to Teen Spirit and thought "Damn, sounds just like the Pixies." I think that was just Kurt being modest. Both those bands were so good...... | rockstar

| #11 Posted on 9.10.02 1514.43 | Has anybody seen the cover for this cd? From what I've seen it's just black with "NIRVANA" in the Century Condensed font. You think they could be a little more creative. Some of Kurts drawings ala Incesticide or some live shot's would have topped that easy.

| #12 Posted on 9.10.02 1611.46 | Instant Rating: 8.25 | The time between the litigation that held up the tracks coming to a close and the compilation being rushed into stores is practically nil (and plus the date was just bumped up to October from November) so they haven't had enough time to produce a more elaborate package. For an album to come out that soon, the booklet and tray art would have had to be completed weeks, if not months, ago. That's why so many albums are coming out with "hidden" or "bonus" tracks -- not because it's a wacky surprise (like it used to be) but because they get tacked on after the art has been finished and it would be too expensive to reprint the track list.
As for getting Cobain's art, that would probably open up another legal imbroglio with Courtney Love, the publisher of his diaries, and Lord knows who else. They're better off saving that for the box set.
Then again, I've only seen that type treatment cover on NME, and they're not exactly known for voracious reportage. If that's indeed the final art, we can only hope that they're doing something creative with gloss ink on matte paper or vellum or something.

| #13 Posted on 9.10.02 2315.54 | I don't download songs over the 'Net (not trying to start a debate over it, just stating that I don't) so I haven't heard the "new" song yet. I saw a tracklisting for the CD over on 411mania.com which was as follows: You Know You're Right About A Girl Been A Son Sliver Smells Like Teen Spirit Come As You Are Lithium In Bloom Heart-Shaped Box Pennyroyal Tea Rape Me Dumb All Apologies The Man Who Sold The World Now these are all good songs (the 13 that I've heard anyway) but I couldn't help thinking they could easily have had a few more tracks. Specifically Spank Thru (which I believe was their first single with Sub Pop--which may explain why it's not on here), Aneurysm, Verse Chorus Verse, Where Did You Sleep Last Night?, and perhaps Drain You. Of course, those are just my thoughts. I could be wrong. Anyone else have comments on the track listing? Agreed on the Box Set. I'd love to have one come out and I think a great title for it would be "It Is Now Time To Make It Unclear".

Spank Thru was on Sub Pop's Sub Pop 200 comp. (which is a great comp. and is avalible on Sub Pop's website) and the only avaliable live version is on Wishkah. The first single with Sub Pop was Love Buzz. They could eaisly have fit more songs on there, Drain You, Aneurysm and Downer would all have been great for the Greatest Hits cd.
