It was announced at GDC '08 that while most Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection titles will remain free of charge, some games will see a "Pay-for-Play" tag.

Nintendo To Begin Charging Money For Some Online Gaming

Considering Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii will likely be free Wi-Fi titles, I started to wonder what Nintendo could possibly justify slapping an online price tag on. Then it hit me...

I would be greatly stunned if any child ANYWHERE picks up a violent game and says "Hey, this game looks really cool, because it'll improve my perception skills." It's a welcome side effect, not a selling point.
