Hey guys. Isn't Mario Kart 8 great? It sure is. Anyway, lots of games here. Not many SOON, but...

3DS 2014 Announcements
- August 29: Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright
- October 3: Super Smash Bros 3DS
- October 24: Fantasy Life - a new RPG by Level-5
- November 21: Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Pokémon Omega Ruby remakes

Super Smash Bros Info
- new playable character: Pac-Man
- new playable character: your Mii
- new playable character: Palutena from Kid Icarus
- for $20, you can buy a Wii U adapter for your wired/wireless Gamecube controllers, since some folks love them some GameCube controllers for Smash Bros (I still have my Wavebirds, so yay)
- There will be a $99 bundle of Smash Bros Wii U, the GameCube controller adapter, and a GameCube controller
- Amiibo figures (NFC toys - think Disney Infinity or Skylanders) are coming this Christmas and will be able to be used with Smash Bros Wii U; a NFC reader/writer to work with Smash Bros 3DS is coming in 2015

Wii U 2014 Announcements
- September 26: Hyrule Warriors (placeholder title)
- October: Bayonetta 2 (a Wii U exclusive; will include the first game)
- sometime in 2014: Art Academy
- holiday 2014: Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker

Wii U 2015 Announcements
- unnamed Zelda game (expect delays)
- Mario Party 10
- Xenoblade Chronicles X
- Mario Maker, a make-your-own-Mario game
- Splatoon, a colourful third-person multiplayer-only shooter
- Kirby's Rainbow Curse
- Yoshi's Wooly World
- the above-mentioned Amiibo figures can also be used with Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi's Wooly World

Other Wii U Announcements
- new Star Fox game demoed for Wii U - was a very early prototype - no release date even hinted at - I can't see this coming out before 2016
- Project Guard, a tower defense game starring R.O.B., was shown - will not be a standalone game but may be tied to Star Fox in some way
- Project Giant Robot was demoed - might also be tied to Star Fox - some Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots type comedy fighting game
- new Wii U exclusive: Devil's Third - release TBA
- Mario vs Donkey Kong coming to Wii U eShop - release TBA

This amiibo thing has me worried... They keep announcing playable characters for Smash Bros, and I'm starting to wonder if all these additional characters will be playable by using their amiibo. So Palutena and Pac-Man, for example, won't actually be in the game, but when you buy their amiibo then you can use them. I've been looking for confirmation that this isn't the case, but so far I haven't found anything one way or the other on this. I hope I'm wrong. Smash Bros looks awesome and this amiibo thing could wreck it if handled improperly.

Splatoon looks insanely fun. Zelda looks beautiful. Mario Maker looks like more work than its worth but I'm sure some people will do amazing things with that. Between Mario Maker and the look of Yoshi's Wooly World, I feel like Nintendo has some Little Big Planet envy.

My understanding is that all the characters are in the game whether you do the Amiibo thing or not. BUT if you get the Amiibos, you can level up your character, take it to play on your friends' systems, etc. I look forward to buying all the loser characters that nobody else wants, like Animal Crossing Villager and Wii Fit Trainer.

Yep. I got that trophy in Melee, too. It really gave me hope. Hopefully not false hope!
