This new Nike ad campain is really driving me nuts here. You know the ones I'm talking about ... Vick playing hockey, Agassi playing baseball, Armstrong boxing and women doing other sports which I guess they don't play. Not only are these things long and drawn out, they appear to be in some kind of a series. This may very well be the worst and most pointless ads out there today.

I'll have to disagree.

I think they're fantastic. The CGI or whatever aside, I think the concept works really well.

I classic case of a tech ners on Madison Avenue going "hey, we have the technology to do something cool. This is going to be great!" and completely forgetting the object of a commercial is to sell shit. Sometimes those ad execs forget they're not making music videos.

I wonder how much money George W. Bush gave Paris Hilton.

The follow-up ads are amusing from a TV professional's perspective...the name/stats graphics at the bottom of the screen (what we call "supers") are a ripoff of ABC's graphic scheme...with the subtle SWOOSH~! on the side.

The Marion Jones-on-the-gymnast's-bench one is spot on, but the Agassi-postgame-interview one's shot all wrong. No locker room interview is shot that wide, and there'd be several more reporters & photogs around Agassi if he had that good a game at short for the Red Sox.

Still, a great concept to sell Nike as a brand, not specific Nike products.

all the 15-17 year olds are talking about this comercial and all of them know it's Nike and all of them are stoked to see the next one. The kids I work with thing this is the coolest comecial series ever. I kinda dig it myself, but it's never gonna match up to "Great Taste, Less Filling"

At least you didn't bring out the old "Keeps a licking and keeps on ticking" campaign...then you'd really be dating yourself.

(oops)

At least some day maybe I'll understand why some day maybe you never can. Or something like that.

How's this for carbon dating:

"Mama mia, that's-a spicy meat-a-ball!"
"Ancient Chinese secret, huh?"
"Where's the beef!?"

God, I'm old.
