I just want to let you guys know that I rented this game (for a friend's X-Box, but it's all platforms) and I love it. They've made it even better than the already great 2002 version. You've got exhibition mode, mini-games, Season mode (full season with trades and everything!), and Franchise mode (create your own team).
They brought in penalties to the game, allowing for 2v2 after a fight, or a Power play if you try and check the goalie at the wrong time. But if you don't like this, every single rule in the game can be modified. Also you can change it this time so that the in games songs actually play during the game, rather that just in the menu (if you have an X-Box, it'll play random songs from your jukebox as well).
There are only two problems with this game that I see. One, unless I'm blind or something, there's no more crazy Midway code things. That makes me sad. The second problem is the after goal celebrations aren't as crazy and fun to watch as before. Oh well.
If you enjoy Midway titles, or Hockey, GO RENT THIS GAME!
With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.
Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms
However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.
I was excited about the e-Reader add-on for the GBA when it first came out, because it had a ton of potential. It still does, but it's barely been used by Nintendo themselves (Clu Clu Land or Urban Champion are not what I'd call system-sellers)
