Kerry Wood is a stud and the Cubs are in the LCS! This is the 1st time they have been in the LCS since 84, when there was no playoffs for it. That was the year home field advantage was stolen from them by Baseball because they didn't have lights at Wrigley and they won the 1st two at home and lost three straight at San Diego.
They are 6-4 Vs the Fish this year. I haven't been this high over a damn baseball game in a very long while.

Go CUBS!

My God almighty Kerry Wood is, in the parlance of JR, a Hoss. I just wonder if the crowds outside of Wrigley celebrating right now would have been waiting to kill Dusty had Goodwin not gotten a hit and Borowski not closed that game out.

If I'm MLB I am demanding that the teams set their rotations for a Prior vs. Dontrelle matchup that would get the hype machines into hyper-drive.

To be fair, the Cubs were in the National League Championship series in '89 also. They played the Giants, and lost 3 to 1, I believe.

I concur, this is the most excited I've been about baseball since, uh, '98 probably.

CUBBIES!!!!!!!!

Throw my hat onto the Cubbie bandwagon. I've been lucky to go to a few Cubs games and I'll say this without regret: Cubs fans love baseball the most. I'm an Orioles fan normally, but I love the Cubs and I wish them all the luck in the world.

I can't believe they won! I literally broke into tears at the last out. Yes, they were in the LCS in 84 (lost to San Diego 3-2, Thanks, Leon!), and in 89 (lost to the Giants 4-1 in the Grace vs. Clark affair), but that was before the division series began. As Fox was so kind to point out every other second, this is the first post season series win for the Cubs since 1908.

You just had to tune into WGN after the game ended, as they did a special report and just showed the people streaming into the streets at Clark & Addison.

No! I will not hop on the Cubs bandwagon! Red Sox first, then Cubs. I will, however, root for Pedro vs. Kerry Wood, Game 7, Fenway Park. That counts as all 7 of the signs.

Sometimes I ask myself why I watch WWE after all the crap it's given me. HLA, necro, HHH, and so on. And then it hits me. That one simple phrase that can be modified and used for anything that gets you down, yet makes you keep coming back.

Every episode has the potential to be the best one ever, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss it after sitting through this shit.

Aside from my Jays back in their glory years, I don't think I've ever cheered for a baseball team as much as I'm cheering for the Cubs right now. I'm hoping they whup Boston or Oakland in the Series (because I don't even want to THINK about that other AL team having a shot again).

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a fan of the Giants and A's and have been since I was a little drooling mutant child.

I watched from the lower reserve as Will Clark drove that single up the middle to clinch the pennant for the Giants in '89. But now that my G'ints are out of the NL pennant race, I am all for the Cubs. Goddamn, GO CUBS.

Like Big Bad, I refuse to believe that THAT TEAM might be in the series. Go Cubs, over my A's or over the BoSox.

But, you know, if it comes down to the Cubs and the BoSox, I think sentiment and good baseball lore wins either way. You gotta love that.

I'm also putting all my support behind the Cubs. I really like the team and the fans.

How about the ending with the Cubs fan jumping on the field and high-5ing Kenny Loften with all smiles as they both made there way into the infield. A split second later the guy gets totally demolished by the security right in front of Loften as he laughs LoL... I usually get worried when I see fans on the field but for some reason this dude wearing Cubs wear just made me laugh.

I just can't imagine The Team Who Must Not Be Mentioned winning again. It makes baby Jesus cry.

My friend lives three blocks from Wrigley. She called me during the Cubs/The Team Who Must Not Be Mentioned interleague series this year and held her phone out on the balcony. You could easily hear the cheers over the phone from the stadium. I can't imagine what it will be like during the World Series (if they can get by the Fish)...

I was cracking up at Lofton on that. If the world ends and the Cubs win a world Chapionship at home, the cops won't be able to stop the surge that will happen at Wrigley. And the Cubs fans will come of the field, pat the players and just bow in humble adoration on the field. Been to some fields that were revered (The Fens, Briggs, Candlestick), but nothing like Wrigley. You got to walk up the stairs with Harry and talk to the guys working the scoreboard. I need to be there, but I can't justify the thousands for tickets.

Cubs countdown is 8

Edit: Gosh I musta been on Drugs. I thought 89 was the first division series against the Giants. No, when it's 84 and Sutcliff, Ryno and Jody, Jody Davis, and 89 and Andre and Ryno and Grace and Calvin freakin' Shiraldi and 98 and Sammy and Kerry, you don't have that much to remember. I am not going back to 45 or to '08, for goodness' sake.

The only Cubs game I was able to make it out to this year was one of their two losses of the season to the Marlins on July 8. This was when the Cubs were on a downslide, and had fallen out of first. I was so let down on that Tuesday afternoon (though even in losing it's always a blast to be at Wrigley). I can't see anything more fitting now than for the Cubs to crush the Marlins to win the National League Championship. Yeah, I think that would make up for that loss back in July.

Oh, and terms that I am sick of hearing already-
"...first post season series win in 95 years!" and "It's like Wrigley Field South here in Atlanta!" Nothing wrong with these staements- the first 200 times I heard them last night.

Kerry Woods has now won one more big game in his career than the most overrated pitcher in major league history Nolan Ryan ever did.
I'd like to be the first to say though that I am already sick of seeing the Cub wives.
And, will FOX do everything in their power to prevent their nightmare scenario of the Marlins getting in the World Series?

WWF/E programming use to bring large numbers to UPN, but its viewership has been slipping as of late (Show Summary By Zap2IT). Of course, its all an internet lie.

How is the Marlins in the World Series a "nightmare" scenario? Granted, the Cubs would probably draw more viewers, but I wouldn't exactly call the Marlins a "nightmare" for the ratings, especially if they're against the Yankees or Red Sox.

Because the Cubs are the hopes of FOX in pulling a huge rating, especially if its against the Yankees or the Red Sox. Personally, I wouldn't mind a Marlins/Red Sox World Series, because I'd do the 24 hour drive on the off day and crash with people I used to go to grad school with for 3,4,5; and it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get tickets to Joe Robbie than to Wrigley or Fenway.

Yeah, but the Giants hadn't played the fishies since like April (ok, may, maybe). They got good after that. The cubs had series' with them through the summer, so a better representation. Seems to me that two of those losses were, excuse the pun, a bit fishy. Was it while Prior was out or when Sammy was on the DL or serving his suspension? I dunno.

Obviously, it'll be a good series. Nothing away from the fish. Good team.

As a bitter, disenfranchised passive Braves fan...phooey on the Cubbies. How in the blue hell does a team like Atlanta, the NL equivalent of the Yankees, job out to a bunch of ex-Pirates that haven't won a World Series in 96 freakin' years!?

Of course, then I wonder how the hell they translate so many damn division championships and NL pennants into just one ring...and then I start drinking heavily.

The rest of the postseason is all about the BoSox. Cowboy up, indeed. F the Bambino; Let's Go Red Sox.

Oh, and the Marlins in the World Series is a nightmare...for Indians fans. :-)

Star wipe, and...we're out.

Not taht I want to be the one who defends Barry, necessarily, but I can see a scenario wher he trusted Greg Anderson as his trainer and Anderson denied he was giving Barry steroids, so Bonds took Anderson at his word.
