The set will be released on May, 24th, and you can place you order with Amazon.com right now. Because Amazon has jumped the gun and put this set for sale before it's been announced by Sony Pictures, there's a chance the title will be removed from their site if the studio pressures them.

We hope to have official specs when the title is announced, but we're told that won't be for another few months. Amazon has artwork for the set, but that was for the previous version of the set (the one that was supposed to be out in Feb, 2004) and it may change.

Roughly a week after my birthday, can't wait.

If it's taken this long, I hope there are plenty of bells and whistles.

I believe I heard there will be cast commentary. Not sure on how many episodes, though (hopefully all, but we'll see). IIRC, that's what pushed back the release date - it was supposed to be a bare-bones set, but Paul Simms (series creator) heard about the plans, and offered to add some more stuff, as well as commentaries.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Phil Hartman tribute of some kind as well, but they might save that for a later set. I can't quite remember which season was in production when he died.

Do you think there's any chance they won't release season 5 on DVD so we can continue to pretend it didn't happen?

Heh. But that would also mean we wouldn't get the wonderful "Bill Moves On" episode.

I don't understand all the Jon Lovitz/Season 5 hate. I thought they were still better than your standard sitcoms, even if they couldn't match the quality of the previous seasons.

I didn't like the Max character at all. A little too "weird", which was already covered by Matthew. Plus, some of the other characters seemed a bit "off" from how they were played in seasons 1-4, i.e. Dave *hating* Matthew (he was really only annoyed by him previously), Lisa marrying Johnny (I couldn't see Lisa from seaosns 1-4 doing something that outrageous).

I would have liked to have seen them bring in John Larroquette to replace Hartman (I believe it was seriously considered), maybe playing a toned down Dan Fielding type. But I can see how they chose Lovitz, since he was close friends w/ Hartman.

Didn't Lovitz play another character earlier on in the show (the guy who was gonna jump out the window)?

It really bugs me when TV shows bring in a guy two different times to play two different characters.

He played a couple of different characters, I think. There was the guy that was going to jump out of the window, and he also played a guy in a mental institution. When they brought him in for the final season, that always bugged me too.

Lovitz was also a patient in the mental hospital they had Bill committed to in an episode.

David Cross appeared twice as 2 separate characters, too. Once as Jimmy's magician nephew, and again as member of "Chock Full O' Notes".

Toby Huss appeared THREE times as THREE different people- Jimmy's security guy, and two bit parts, one in the episode "Friends" and another in "The Xmas Story."

Bob Odenkirk shoed up twice, too. Once as the doctor when Matthew got hurt goofing around w/ Joe, and again as a member of "Chock".

That usually doesn't bother me too much... unless the characters are opposites on the character spectrum. I know I'm forgetting a few other examples, but the one that really bugged me was Diane Neal on Law & Order: SVU. She had a guest appearance where she played a woman who raped a man then choked her friend to death; then a season or two later, she's the ADA prosecuting rapists and murderers! If she'd played a bereaved wife or something, it wouldn't bother me. But the characters were polar opposites.

With Lovitz, eh, not such a big deal. He played a loon in one episode, then starred as a loon. The characters didn't clash in your mind.

Look how many different characters he's done on the Simpsons. At least five I think, not counting Jay Sherman.

1) Llewelyn Sinclair
2) his sister that ran the Ayn Rand School for Tots
3) The art instructor
4) The Shelbyville billionaire
5) Artie Ziff

Cartoons are different, IMO- the characters at least look different.
