I like that - and to expand just a little, if the reports are all true, then he's setting a terrible example for those guys who have followed the rules in the past. What's to keep Scott Hall, the apparent locker room cancer, from up and telling Vince he no longer agrees to do things this way or that way. Should Vince cave, Scott Hall suddenly has power. If McMahon punishes him - then you're setting an example for the locker room that only Austin matters.
Vince needs to crack the whip, and your column was excellent.
I enjoyed your column. It hit on the situation perfectly. Vince cannot crack the whip on some wrestlers and then give in to tantrums with others. This would cause a lot of backroom problems which the wwf was trying to avoid.
I am the JOBBER TO THE STARS. You better remember that.
Thanks for all your feedback guys. We all knew this day was coming and it is finally here. What day?
The day when it would become pretty obvious that the Rock is the WWF's future and Austin (God bless him, a better technical wrestler and a GREAT performer and VERY popular) is slowly starting to fade.
Yes, he's setting a terrible example. But like I said about all that non-sense with power struggles (www.slashwrestling.com/guests/drop21.html) and what not, it's really all Vince's fault. It wouldn't be so bad if Vince wasn't such an Austin mark himself.
Thanks for reading. That was the fatest and easiest column I think I've ever written. I wonder why? =)
Props on the column. I'm also in total agreement that Vince shouldn't tolerate this B.S. But fortunately, I don't think he will give in this time. Back in the days of stuff like the Hart/Michaels fiasco Vince was losing the battle with WCW and was in near panic mode. Today there is no WCW. No real competition at all really. Vince will not tolerate wrestler's crap anymore in fear that they will show up on the competition's show. Look at the past year. He let the most popular woman in the history of the business, Chyna, walk out and he didn't look back. He knows he can create a bunch of new stars to replace the old ones.
I say let Austin walk out and rot at home. If he's content sitting home and getting fat, then the WWF will find a way to get on without him. But I bet he comes looking for his job back within six months. Look how stuborn Lawler was when he walked out, and by his return he was ready to kiss Vine's ass.
edit: And you're right: the day has come that we were all fearing. And it's because there are too many damn main eventers in one fed. It's the most loaded roster ever. That's why I think the split might do the WWF a world of good.
