Man, ANOTHER great game today. I didn't think it was possible but I guess I'm an optimist - it never occurred to me that the Dallas O (and Romo in particular) could experience such an implosion over the course of 60 minutes.

MORE FOOTBALL IN LAMBEAU PEOPLE - I gotta say, I LOOOOOOOVE our chances to make the Super Bowl now.

So between her presence turning Romo inept and now her taking him away from the practice field to Mexico, is it a safe bet that Jessica Simpson will be banned from Dallas?

I can't stress enough that the Cowboys' clock management on that last drive was horrible. It's almost as if they forgot they still had a timeout left. I don't think Romo would have thrown that INT if he had more time on the clock.

Is there anyone happier about this result than Brett Favre? And who knew that Eli Manning would be in a championship game while Peyton goes home?

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

Despite the fact that the Giants have now won a ridiculous nine road games in a row... Eli ain't winning in Lambeau. :)

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

You know, I really think that the Giants are playing with house money at this point. They are 9-1 on the road this season, and Eli is actually showing signs of being a competent quarterback.

It's a lot easier seeing Eli going out and laying an egg next week than Favre, but this is going to be a pretty close game, I think.

The normal course of events is that the long, physical drive wears out the defense. Instead, the bookend drives Dallas had towards the end of the 1st half and at the beginning of the 2nd half wore out the Dallas O-Line. Romo was untouched through 3 quarters, and getting whacked throughout the 4th. First time the #1 seed in the NFC has not made the Conference Title Game since they expanded the playoffs in '90.
Bum's son should be looking for a job by the end of the week, as it seemed the ghost of his former employer Marty took over his body. And the quarterback whose name rhymes with something else still has ZERO playoff victories. Anyone fill out a missing persons report for T.O. for his second half contributions yet? And, since his hands failed him so much, perhaps Patrick Crayton could attempt to just open his rather large mouth in an attempt to catch footballs.
HOW 'BOUT DEM COWBOYS!!
Now, onto the team that matters. The defense that never gets big stops finally came through in the 2nd half. The man who replaced Shockey's drops comes through with a big catch to set up the game saving touchdown before the half. Giants will be decided underdogs at Lambeau, and understandably so. Still, would rather be underdogs than 29 other teams when they take the field next Sunday night.

It's safe to assume, if nothing else, that any journalist who lacks the ability to write a piece that focuses on the actual meltdown that occured within the team will blow that story up to epic proportions. So most of them will.

The amount of media attention those two get is absurd.

I agree. I love the Packers' chances, too, but as also noted in this thread, the Giants are playing with house money. I am ECSTATIC that Giants on in the Championship Game and I think they have chance to make it to the Super Duper Bowl, people!

The Giants are kind of reminding me of the '85 Pats. On the road for three straight playoff games. Under the radar going into the playoffs. Even the juggernaut presence in the other conference is there.

I loved that team

Um, yeah, I know.

I forgot to mention, I was rooting for the Cowboys even though I don't care who wins, but as soon as they showed Jerry Jones standing five feet from the head coach with like 30 seconds to go, I decided I wanted the Giants to win instead.

The look on Jerry Jones' face at the end of the game was classic. He look PISSED, to the point that I was a bit shocked he didn't fire Wade Phillips right then and there (though I'm pretty sure he's gone after this week).

I will say that while Romo doesn't look like a big game QB, I thought he played well for the most part. No, the real reason the Cowboys lost to me was because of Phillips failure to convert ample possesion time (36 mins., 13 more than the G-men) into points. To have that much time in your favor and end up only scoring 17 points is dismal.

But that team did have the quickest lead in Super Bowl history up to that point. Take away the 46 points the Bears scored in between Patriot scores and the Patriots shut out the vaunted Bears 10-0. Just like, if you subtract the 2nd quarter 2 years later, John Elway won a Super Bowl in the 80's.

And the game doesn't start until 5:30, local time. Home-field advantage, and all that. Should be interesting. Really, unless the Pack goes out and wins 43-3 or something like that, I'd be fine with any potential Super Bowl matchup at this point, though the Chargers coming out of the AFC would be nice, just because it'd provide a different topic for the media to dwell endlessly on about. Instead of 19-0?, we'd get the coronation of Brett Favre, or the ultimate Manning/Rivers faceoff.

Naturally, the bastions of journalistic integrity at TMZ are the first to pile on.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Jessica Simpson had probably given up and gone shopping during the drive commanded by her boyfriend that took up much of the second quarter and gave the Dallas Cowboys what turned out to be a short-lived lead over the New York Giants.

But, really, what's a girl to do? Long drives can just be so boring.

Not terribly effective, either, as Tony Romo and the Cowboys found out Sunday when they extended their streak in playoff futility to 11 years in a loss so hard to take that even the popcorn man himself, Terrell Owens, was reduced to tears.

In truth, no one knew where Simpson was, though there was no shortage of blonde women in No. 9 jerseys in Texas Stadium. But most in the white-wearing crowd of 63,660 no doubt thought she had sneaked back into a suite and put yet another hex on her boyfriend during an especially futile fourth quarter for the celebrity-squiring quarterback.

A very teary-eyed Terrell Owens says otherwise:

"This is not about Tony. You guys can point the finger at him, you can talk about the vacation, and if you do that, it's really unfair," Owens said, his voice choked with emotion. "It's really unfair. That's my teammate. That's my quarterback. You guys do that, it's not fair. We lost as a team. We lost as a team, man."

Like cfgb, I think anyone who immediately points the finger at Jessica Simpson is a dolt. But that T.O. promo is one I'm sure will get replayed for years and, in retrospect, will ultimately make Dallas look that much sillier. Gotta love the intent, though.

And the team Eli felt he was too good to play for (or Archie but who cares, Eli is still a punk) is in a championship game as well. Despite being coached by Norv Turner!

And Romo should be thankful for every last one of 'em, for every person blaming her will be overlooking the fact that he was equally adept at blowing it in the playoffs when she wasn't on the scene.

It obviously wasn't her fault but going on holiday the week before a big game with anyone, be it Jessica Simpson or Jessica Fletcher, was rather inviting trouble.

The intent I suspect was, as always, to get more attention for TO. From the virtual lap of honour at training on returning from a high ankle sprain (not just a regular ankle sprain ya know!) to the post-game crocodile tears, Terrell was at his attention seeking worst last week. Except in the 2nd half, during which he was notable only by his absence.

Good game though, and a great weekend for football. I fear results and injuries have set everything up perfectly for the Patriots to continue their reign of terror, but I'd love to see the Pack prove me wrong.
